I keep reading these negative comments on Ottawa. Is it really that terrible/boring? Doesn’t it at least have movie theaters, malls, and restaurants? But most importantly, how is the cost of living? (Including housing). Are there jobs? I’m asking all these questions, because a lot of folks here, are making it sound like the Canadian capital completely sucks, but they don’t necessarily explain. All the same. Beautiful video. Subscribed.
What is repeated here is the story put out and maintained for many years but is not quite what happened. When the Russian first approached the government it was relayed immediately to the government and their top spy master took charge. So while the Russian was going from agency to agency trying to get attention he was being shadowed. Intially they were not sure it was some kind of Russian ploy. When the Russians searched the apartment they were being watched by Canadian police. When they were convinced he was real and could not get any more info on the Russians they brought him in.
I feel like Ottawa gets a lot more criticism than it deserves for being boring because it's the capital of Canada. Obviously if you compare it to Montreal and Toronto, it's not even close. But there are much much more boring cities in Canada to live in.
Not convinced at all Ottawa still sucks, sincerely 17 year Ottawa resident who's parents still live there. luckily I can make my parents visit me now since they are retired and I have toddlers.
Yes, the city that fun forgot. Not to mention the ice cold winters where people have literally froze to death in their driveways. I had the misfortune of living there for 30 years. From the high tech era to becoming just another government hole. Most people live in the burbs anyway, Kanata or Barrhaven. We called it barbqe haven. The Big O, and the O is a yawn.
Look at the bright side for 3 months a year you will feel like you're freezing to death every time you got outside in Ottawa. At least it's something to break up the monotony of the rest of the year.

Ottawa was founded a couple of decades prior to that as Bytown, but it definitely wasn't an urban centre anything on the scale of Montreal. And the burning of parliament in Montreal was more complicated that simply English people not liking French. It was a pushback against the establishment of responsible government (i.e. democracy), and against Upper and Lower Canada working collaboratively to form a government (with Baldwin and Lafontaine ). But you are right that it was a bunch of English loyalists, being egged on by the Tory (Conservative) government, that torched the buildings and put an end to Montreal's status as Canada's capital.

Awful and insensitive comment! The homeless are at risk and die in -20 to -40°C temps…case in point, there’s outreach teams in vans combing the city 24/7 to try and keep them alive. I take it you haven't been to Ontario in last 5 years. You can sell beer in grocery stores now, though many of them that initially did so when the law changed, many have stopped because it was not as profitable as people thought it would be. Even before that they could get a special license. There is a 7-11 near my parents house that has also been an LCBO for the past 20 years, meaning there is at least one convenience store in Ontario selling even liquor. The only thing really barred now is if you want to open an independent liquor store not affiliated with the government franchises. The main problem is that every town in the province already has an established and specialized liquor and/or beer store, often situated beside the grocery store in the same parking lot.
@@FakeSchrodingersCatQuebec has beer (and often low quality wine) in all corner stores/gas station. Plenty of tows are way too small for a big liquor store.

There are towns in Canada with like 25 people. Of course Ottawa isnt the most boring place, when places like that exist

Crime ridden, big time!
If you live here than you know its boring and riddled with poverty.
Although Ottawa is boring as hell, there are so many cities that are worse, such as Moncton.

Ottawa became Canada's capital city after the English burned down the Montreal parliament in 1849 because they hated french Canadians.

Thanks god it was in past and English doesn’t hate French anymore
Typical, simplifying the situation to fit your own agenda.
