This is a violin piece by Chen Gang, based on the song "Beautiful Tashkurgan", the flute solo "Pamir Spring" and music from the Tajik ethnic group in Xinjiang. After absorbing and drawing on the special performance style of national instruments, it was adapted into Liuqin(Chinese Plucked Stringed Instrument) and Chinese folk band concerto by Zhang Dasen. This song has a strong ethnic style. The theme of the whole music can be summarized as "singing and dancing", which is specifically divided into two parts: The first part is "Sing to your heart's content". The melody is very sing-like, showing the vast and beautiful grassland scenery and the scene of herdsmen riding on horses playing their harps and singing. There's a little bit of pomp in the second part. The second part is "Dancing with Joy". This part of melody is full of dance, which gives full play to the complex, changeable, agile and flexible skills of the left hand and shows the jubilant dance scenes of the Tajik people.
Apparently Tashkurgan is on the China-Pakistan border. My Pakistani neighbour likes this rendition very much. He said it's very Pakistani, esp. his glissando which a lot of Chinese r not used to. This piece was written by Chen Gang, so most Mainland Chinese r used to the Chinese Traditional Music way of appreciation. I don't like it, 'cos I don't like Pakistani music. My Pakistani neighbour doesn't like 薛伟's performance. He said his was like cooking Pakistani cuisine to cater for the Chinese.
Thanks for posting this! Never heard it before. Nice piece. Is it traditional Chinese? Now, he plays with the 3rd violin. Does he own all these instruments? $_$
@lili lo New pieces popped up from 2 months ago and can be found by searching for "chuanyun li Lung wah Hotel". No date. Hope he is well.
Your problem is, you don't even know what your real race is! Han refers only to a small race originated from Northwestern China. Read your history book more carefully! Get a grip!
Tashkurgan is a place which is supposed to be soft and relaxing! He is showing nothing but skill! Can he play something else, instead of ruining this piece? He definitely needs to learn some East Turkestani culture before playing it, even though the piece was composed by a Chinese on a "foreign" land! The pipa version is much better (by some Chinese girls are much better)! BTW, if he really wants to show off his skill, he should compose something for himself!
This guy´s got the skills of a highly trained classical musician with the heart of a rock n roll star!
cant be more precise

Dont always grouch around, just enjoy mr. li's incredible music
he always has his own interpretation.
A great master is the one who play music without form.
it is not loud. no show off of his skills. but this is the best version I have ever listened.
he's definitely a genius
My heart leapt. This is really brilliant
Beautiful. Seemingly authentic.
Bravo, it's touching. He had presented a living piece of music.
This is one of my favorites. Somehow I saw the same pianist in one of a concert in Bay Area.
Beautiful playing! Fantastic!
a very special chinese new violinst! awesome!
looks technically never, maybe ever, been challenged.
Qining Wang
Exceptional performance.
Purely Amazing
yes, this is the piece the boy plays in the competition (where he comes in 5th place).
the best of the best
I like the version of yu hongmei which she used erhu its sounds very genuine

nice!
i think i prefer to thank the musician, if i were a musician i would rather u thank me.
wicked!
Twoset gang wya?
Thanks for posting this! Never heard it before. Nice piece. Is it traditional Chinese?
Now, he plays with the 3rd violin. Does he own all these instruments? $_$

Thank you
3:30 ~ 4:xx is really great
so many China-haters here
So Cantonese are not Chinese or what? Dont get what your problem is really
The song is composed by a Chinese but with a bit middle-east taste @@
Yeah Tashkurgan is in between China and Middle Eastern...
when did he play this? Is he still playing today?
sadly, he seems to have been insane for years. So sad.
He is from Hong Kong.
What the F..k!!
am I the only one who finds the violin is a little bit not in tune with the piano?
such a pity that with such an incredible technique, he chooses to add the revolting grappelli type jazz touch.!!
Enjoy his arrogance? Or the arrogance of ignorant Chinese? Yummy!
..it is when Jewish blood runs in Chinese body !
BRAVISSIMO!!!
wtf is that supposed to mean?
he didn't play the original flavor of this piece.
3:37, WTF
Your problem is, you don't even know what your real race is! Han refers only to a small race originated from Northwestern China. Read your history book more carefully!
Get a grip!
Extraordinary skills, but pompous
sounds disgusting. esp the hua ying

LearnCantoneseFast go learn the history of this music and how was the political cause of that generation .
Quite agree with you. Praising his skills, but too pompous
He plays as if his violin is going to explode :)
He is from Hong Kong.
His family is from Dongguan Guangdong province. He is born in Tsingtao and immigrate to HongKong when he is 6 years old
Is there any real good “hk” musician?
