Can we all just take a moment to appreciate the sheer hilarity of the final boss? I mean, seriously, nobody saw that one coming.
I saw it coming, after all Robin looked tired after the fight, birdman looked like he was doing fine and he was spamming the button.
I mean, it doesn't really feel worth the fact that one of your friends just died.

What I learned today is that you shouldn't try to infer the story of a game from its boss fights.

The game is basically about an energy crisis
Man, out of all the boss deaths I've seen, planting seeds inside their body until they literally explode into a goo tree has to be one of the most gruesome.
What makes it worse is that it didn't even kill her. She had to live and suffer just that bit longer and be pathetically shot to pieces to put her down. All to drive home the point that yes, Robin definitely killed her, and there is no moral ambiguity left to that fact. Just brutal...
Yep. And the worst death is the death of Black (paleskinned woman w/ rocket launcher and mech hands) - by the point in the story when you meet her - she is just a loyal soldier who got betrayed by her troops and lost anyone she cared about and her commanders, completely succumbed to pain and despair - she tries to stop you from hijacking the rocket not because of some higher cause or any special reason - she just doesn't have anything else left except this last order and basically wants this to end. Fighting and killing her feels just wrong at this point and more like asisting in suicide.
Ghostel3591 don’t forget she was suffering way before she and Robin fought. Her transcendence melted her arms leaving her with these metal prosthetics that are so heavy that they cause her pain. But the absolute worse is that she’s left with an eternal headache that flares up at loud noises. Which explains her habit of tapping her head. It’s cause of this and everything else that she went mad by the end.
Austin Morrison Plus, Seeing her best friend White die a painful death, which clearly surprised her, probably didn’t do wonders on her mental state.
Also, this is just a criticism of the game, how come Black got a sympathetic backstory, but White didn’t?
though I don't know much of the game, I can tell that some of the bosses, like Agent Black, were ridiculed for a "higher" Purpose. She was "made" to serve. Anyone's existence would be shitty being an object. Killing her seemed to be, in all forms, the worst choice, but to her, it stopped all her suffering. I sympathize with her.

I think the truly best boi (besides the two Concern soldiers that are recurring characters) is one at bottom of controller pit. He taught Robin how to keep the Omega Controller down, let's all press F for this man.

I fucking love the final battle. Think about it. It's the emotional climax of the game; when everyone is going to die because the world is gonna end. The only hope is asking "God" for help. After God manipulates psychologically and emotionally the protagonist with ilusions of her family and her inner demons, the fact that the all-powerful being that everyone fears and respect is just some random pissed off alien bird guy that we never saw/know that controls the Starworm as a ship is so fucking creative,meaningful and hilarious.

PezConSombrero I found Agent Blacks final battle way more dramatic then the final boss because then more the story develops then more you learn about her backstory and connection to agent grey with her final motive being to just leave this planet behind and is fighting till she can barely move anymore because of the seeds starting to leech more and more ivory oil out of her body. If that doesn’t make you feel sympathetic towards the bad guy who constantly tried to take you down while the system she’s part of is slowly falling apart I don’t know what is. And then her transformation in this hybrid monster oh boy
Brainbot Jezebel oh yeah. Driven mad by grief, blue eye corruption, AND ivory overload. Turning her into this hybrid abomination that I can only describe as a living forest of ivory. Possibly the most horrible way to go.
Fact: during the conscience boss fight, if you leave the room instead of walking to your dad, upon waking up, Robin will actually have an "angry" animation. Probably because the starworm tried to weaken her using this memory and she didn't fall for it?
I did that it was such a cool detail
If you hug the father it makes the boss fight easier, it doesn't weaken you.

@@lucasnassar2778 Yes, there is a lot of proof of it. The boss gets armor during some phases of the fight, but if you hug your dad then the armor is broken instantly.

It's a representation of Royal I do belive, each of the four shades represent somebody, the first one obviously representing Elro.

i could be wrong, given this is the first video of the game ive seen in along time, but based on actions you take during the game those 4 shadows behave diffrently, "Royals shadow" being the only one that doesnt fight in either form, and either ko's himself with pride (right side of the screen) or fear, sorrow, and weakness (crawls to the left)
Man, this game has REALLY good boss fights. A few of them are more frustrating than they need to be, but otherwise it's pretty awesome.
Especially with Agent Black, who you know fine well has a pretty big grudge against your family, and her character arc is more about her getting more and more intense than anything else...especially the part where you just have to get the lift working again to escape from her for a while, and she's running at you full force, throwing punches, firing rockets everywhere and tearing up floor panels like they're nothing just to get at you, and then the fight afterwards where she keeps desperately regenerating and coming after you even as branches are sprouting from her back....and even that isn't enough to put her down for good.
Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 could learn a thing or two from her.
James Norman seriously, when she came back *again* as a freaking ivory monster I sat there for a second with my mouth open like “HOLY FUCKING SHIT!”
Logical Overdrive and how. She’s had her arms destroyed and replaced with prosthetics, her imperfect transcendence has left her with a permanent migraine, been subjected to ivory overload AND blue eye corruption. One of which is supposed to kill the victim as they turn into an ivory tree! And the blue eyes fuse with the ivory turning her into this twisted abomination, a living ivory forest and she STILL KEEPS GOING!
Austin Morrison and for the entire time she’s simply hell bent on eviscerating you. She’s like an organic terminator who got stronger through *sheer will alone.*

Agent black might actually be my favorite boss in any Metroidvania, and I played Hollow Knight.
Hollow Knight is still a better game but Agent Black fight is just unforgettable, I miss Iconoclasts

I second this, that was the most emotionally intense battle i had the pleasure to play.
While the plot of this game kind of got away from me at times, I'm always gonna remember it for its great variety of boss fights; especially how so many of them tied in with characters, either by having you fight people you had known for a while, or involving other people like Royal in the fight and having dialogue running as blows were traded. 58:25 was a pretty memorable moment.
Lawrence was def fav character and boss, he just shouts inspiration at you while you repeatedly slice him

You know I've never realized on how depressing Black's boss fight is at the end. She turned into a gigantic monstrosity just to protect the rocket and kill Robin. And you as Robin actually killed a player for the first time. So yeah makes you think if anyone in this game is pure and hasn't killed anyone

@@trentlindsey7401 Canonically all those were non-lethal KOs on Robin's part. With the exception of Black all the deaths during the game were the result of interventions by Mina, Elro, Royal or other external factors.
This game is so messed up sometimes... I love it!

Wow, after the final boss i looked up the definition of iconoclast. This just brought me a new perspective on the game.
They were a group of people who tried to destroy Churches because they hated anything that pointed outside of their navel-gazing self-destruction. Also, notice the freemason imagery in the game.

I was looking for boss fight inspirations for my game and suddenly remembered Iconoclasts. I searched "Iconoclasts all bosses" specifically hoping to find one of your videos. You didn't disappoint
I didn't expect so much emotion on a pixel looking game with that thumbnail, thought it would be a non-intense sort of donkey Kong typa thing but this was beautiful
It's actually pretty dope that Ivory was actually like Spice in Dune, and the final boss was just a harvester pilot.

Several things, one, I felt sorry for Agent Black, two, I felt sorry for that one soldier that died during the omega controller boss, three, fuck burds, I hate them where I live and they caused so many problems in this game.
Hah so I wasn't the only one to notice the poor soldier fall off the platform. Tragic indeed. I always root for side characters no matter how insignificant.
At least the soldier showed you how to slow down the controller with bombs
Birds are cool. It's people that are the problem. Especially people that are so disturbed, that they hate on other species for no reason at all.
I just love how Robin's brother, during the fight with Mother, is sitting there with a face that says like "I hope this soon is over... I'm so bored."

Just beated the Starworm in challenge mode. Thank you for making me discover this game, i would never have heard of it without this video. Shame, this game is great and deserve more recognition.

When I beat her on hard mode, she was standing over Royals body, so when she got knocked out she just slammed her face onto royals face. Needless to say I got a good laugh out of that.
Noah Hartman I beat her in one hit mode. Compared to all the foes before her she was quite easy

my favorite touch to this game is the pose that robin takes when fights start gradually becoming more composed and nonchalant
Apparently according to Joakim "Konjak" Sandberg(the creator of this game) the birdman's canon name is "Lucas Birbasaurus Rex". That's a hilarious detail that unfortunately isn't shown in-game and the name makes sense as it's first name is Lucas which means "Light bringer"(referencing it's status as the 'god' of their religion), then the middle name of Birbasaurus being a cross between Birb(a memey version of bird) and saurus meaning lizard which goes into it's last name of "Rex"(referencing a Tyrannosaurus rex) which is Latin for king. His name means king of the birb-lizard lightbringers. Weird, but funny and makes sense for the situation.

There's something impressive about successfully killing a super soldier despite being crippled, though Elro also causes a lot of problems through his actions.

I'm noticing a recurring pattern on some of the bosses. specifically the controllers and the omega wheel. the world spines are decorated with feathers. and the omega wheels blades seem to also look like feathers. seems like it has some connections.

The magic of this game is that is literally the best games of 2018 when it's unappreciated well sure this game (especially the sales and switch version) sold over 1 million copies world wide but the thing is there's plenty of games who gained 1 million copies but games like Cuphead Celeste Undertale octopath traveler and horizon games iconoclasts only sold 1 million copies in 2 years and is still slept on while these games i mentioned gathers 2 million copies world wide in months and was hella popular
Which is why iconoclasts is still slept on is just a woman in the mesopotamia in the post apocalyptic world ruled by robo animals a cartoon cup a trans girl gaining courage and stuff our blonde mechanic girl never stood a chance (which is why I'm glad that this game gathered a large and loyal fandom legit a cult classic)

The boss designs of this game were AMAZING! Each one had new mechanics and kept the game fresh and new! I feel like parts of the story were a little rushed, but it was still great! Man, this game doesn't get half the praise it deserves... It's really such a masterpiece!
My favorite is Lawrence due to the fact that he just monologues at you while Elro just shuffles up to him and stabs him with a broken sword.
This is SO Megaman that hurts Capcom... Looks amazing!

I... had no idea that in the 3rd Silver Watchman fight the wrench can reach him... I always shot him with the stun gun or bombs.
I love the little zombie walk Black does in the first fight, it looks funny.
Damn, Carver and Silver Watchman 3 are some of the most unique bossfights I've ever seen.
The music and atmosphere is so simalar to shantae... I love it! And once again nicely gone Gellot!

Yep, the game is pretty good and challenging. It's one of those that i enjoyed my time trying to master it. Though the battle with the edge was the hardest IMO

what i find kinda insane about this, is Robin is literally fighting an Alien Alternate of herself. A Crow-Creature, using a wrench and many of the very techniques *Robin herself* relied on to reach this point!
