    Those handles are mounted upside down. The bails should be facing down, that way when you use the handles they stop at 90 degrees and don’t smush your fingers between the bail and the body of the battery.

    Although it would be a little awkward to hook up the battery cables and temp sensors, I am a little surprised they didn't flip the BMS over and use the case as a big heat sink for it. I agree with you that the parts used add up to the price point. It's a nice setup.

      Steel and stainless are not great conductors of heat. Plus your suggestion would heat up the batteries over time.

      @@mrgcav and bms inside the case wouldn't? where would the heat go? the skin may not be a great conductor but a LOT better than air. With the setup as is the only way the heat gets out is via the box anyway, just less directly less efficiently and less quickly

    Really wish they were 12v. Too many RVs everything is 12v only. Pretty much would have to replace all big applicances with 24v ones. Also I can get 7s 24v li-ion. What makes LFP shine is it's ability to have the perfect voltage for 12v lead acid replacement.

    $30 for battery terminals? I made mine with cable glands, and all thread coupling nuts, heat shrink the nuts to color code, then stick them through the gland, then just use a bolt on each end to connect the cables! If you are worried about the material, you can use a bar of brass or aluminum, in the same way, just drill and tap it. The glue lined, 3:1 shrink tubing, works well, and if the tubing is large enough, that it is near the smallest it can shrink, it is thicker, and seems to work better for this, anyway it works well, and is much cheaper

      Well sure you can use a cardboard box a paper clip and bubble gum to build something but that’s not the same as a fancy product, all I’m saying is that the price is warranted due to component market costs.

    These are prime *Dags,* all right.
    I was told (mid eighties) that in some parts of Australia, large batteries could be called that. I may be recalling wrong, however, as more recent research spoke of that term being used to refer to the wool near the rump of (wool-bearing) sheep.
    Still, though, I used that term in original fiction to refer to “large batteries.”

    Jakiper! no thanks. I bought their 48v 100ah rack mount battery and they sabotage the units. They turn on some motion alarm that activates an alarm and disables the unit. U need a $40 proprietary cable ($1 in parts) to turn off the alarm and restore service to the battery. They won't have the cables in stock until March 15th. DIY solar has threads on building your own cable. This is not just a couple of units here. There are many complaints.

    You should ask them where they got the metal box.

    • @dennisyoung4631
      @dennisyoung4631 2 роки тому

      They might well be making them themselves. It does not take *that* much in the way of equipment to make that kind of a box. I’m thinking a (mechanized) shear, a press-brake, a few jigs to help with assembly, and a couple of industrial-grade (440 volt) spot-welders. That might need a few - 4 or 5 people, and a small(er) shop. Thirty to a hundred such boxes a day would be do-able then.
      Heavy equipment - punch-presses, etc. - just makes the process of making such boxes quicker, easier, and less “care and thought intensive.” That setup is better for many hundreds into thousands per day.

    • @dennisyoung4631
      @dennisyoung4631 2 роки тому +1

      @@bj97301 that would make sense once they began large *volume* production, as large(r) orders bring the per-item price down.
      Small numbers, however - that’s when container, import, shipping fees start to look ugly on a per unit basis.
      My comment was largely based upon observing sheet metal work at a place I worked at in the late eighties, as well as some small personal experience with sheet metal. The equipment in question is run-of-the-mill stuff at most HVAC shops. All one need do is change the usual galvanized steel to stainless - or, if one was a bit cheaper, just use the heavier-grade materials present!
