Does that plane meet the FAR Part 103 requirements? Generally when you install a 2 cylinder engine, that will force you over the empty weight of 254lbs. Been around these planes for over 30 years and it is tremendously difficult to stay within the 103 weight limit (even with the 24lbs for a ballistic chute). Some folks use a chute (not really ballistic) that weighs next to nothing. BUT! Sometimes the examiner will give you the FULL 24 lbs, and sometimes they won't. Depends if they've had a good breakfast or not. :) Having flown GA planes since 1980 - Experimental Amateur Built planes since 1990, and Sport Planes since that category came "on line" - I would much rather fly a plane in the Part 103 Category, but they are REALLY hard to build within the weight limit.
