- Sky News host Chris Kenny says the ABC has “gone all in” on pride, even setting up "queer ABC social media accounts".
Mr Kenny’s remarks follow the national broadcaster’s coverage of Sydney’s Mardi Gras parade last Saturday.
“The ABC is not so much broadcasting these events, as promoting them, and indulging itself completely,” he said.
“These are terrific and significant events, and they should be broadcast and covered.
“But is the ABC just covering them? Is it dispassionate at all about what’s going on, or is it using taxpayers' money for its own indulgence, and should it be using newsroom staff to do this? I think they've blurred the lines.”

The Madi Gras brings in people from all over Australia and the world. This drives up local economy through their consumption of goods and services (notice how hotel prices are astronomical around the time for one example). There is A LOT of money made during these events, which is why it continues to happen and receive some sponsorship

Everyone I know with gender dysphoria would agree and absolutely publicly celebrate being straight and free of gender dysphoria.
The problem is that they aren't. Most wouldn't wish it upon anyone because they don't want others to suffer the constant verbal and sometimes physical attacks that they do for simply trying to be who they are rather than what most people in society wants them to be (especially Sky consumers).
It is for this reason that Mardis Gras is about celebrating the fact that everyone should have every right to live and be a part of society as everybody else which is important because it's thanks to LGBT people like Alan Turing who significantly helped the British defeat Hitler that we can even have this free conversation ~70 years later.
What is the point of celebrating it? iots always been accepted as the "norm". yall are crying because you're bored with your own mundane straight lives. get a life.. there are more important things to cry over

Why do we need 'World Pride' or pride events? While emphasising that I have no problem whatsoever with homosexuality or homosexuals, I do not believe that sexual orientation, be it heterosexual or homosexual or anything else, is something to be 'proud' of or celebrate. I also believe that people are getting sick and tired of having the alphabet soup and the colours in the sky rammed down our throats morning, noon and night.

Because queer identifying people are at higher risk of suicide, abuse and persecution for just being who they are. The first Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978 started as a protest where 58 marchers were arrested, charged and victim to police brutality. Still as I walked to the parade on Saturday night waving a rainbow flag I had slurs yelled and eggs thrown at me by a passing car. There is still work to be done in our attitude toward acceptance, inclusivity and tolerance of people that are slightly different to others.

The fact that you're feeling oppressed by the city being a bit more colourful (because as you say, it's not the representations of homosexuality and queerness that are upsetting you, you're not homophobic) then I'm also deeply sad for you. If, in a world where there is so much hatred, so much harm, so much famine, war, sexism, racism, transphobia and homophobia - a bit of colour, some people feeling joy, safety and love and expressing that to other people is what you feel is being "rammed down your throat" then i'd say, open wide, because that's a pretty fucking good situation to be in. I agree 100%. I think we would all like to aim for a world where pride events no longer have any political or even social meaning, but even in the most liberal of countries, LGBT people are still massively overrepresented in victims of violent crime statistics and that's not even including the constant verbal abuse they receive (whether overt or covert snickering/teasing behind their back). Trans people still experience employment discrimination amongst other inadequacies with trans healthcare and government issues.
Until the time comes where most of us learn to grow up and worry more about how we best spend the time we have in our own lives, we just have to accept that it's still necessary for the time being.

The ABC has been garbage for a long time. I don't really feel that the queer community is to blame for this. I feel like its more along the lines of people who want to use the queer community to further their goals. It's a standard corperate move. As a company it's favorable to promote queer subjects because anyone in opposition gets destroyed.
There was a rapper recently who made a very unintelligent rant about that billboard that was highly sexual and in full display in front of children. He was dropped by affiliate companies.
I couldn't believe that poster was there and quietly I was relieved when I noticed it had been defaced.
I guess what I am saying is not all queer people support every message that someone puts out. It's a shame that the loudest most idiotic people tend to not just speak for themselves but speak for the entire community, and as a result people like yourself tend to feel like its the whole queer community as a collective trying to push these ideas and expectations on you.

Also just a side note, I am queer, and I am a trans-person, and I don't think children should be exposed to this type of stuff in the streets, or at schools. But I do feel like people should have freedom of expression, and that sexuality and deviating from gender expectations should not be a shameful thing. It just doesn't need to be in everyones face.
