Garden Warfare 1 had the most personality and charm put into it, and this is genuine proof. The zombies were less serious and way goofier and they had individual personality. Not to say that more modern games took away from that, persay. But it was most evident there.

It was because time travel became an element, being the Citron and Imp classes respectively (they are from the future and stuff) so they thought they should make it all futuristic and all that but honestly it was a bit overdone. They also overused the whole "goats" thing. Like okay goatify for rose was neat, but then they added the zomburger delivery mode, and then the hover goat, like where does it end? It stopped being funny and felt more like Plants vs. Zombies and Goats.

Since the Mecha Gargantuar/Gargantuar Prime was meant to be in GW1, it definitely would’ve been interesting to see what it’s spawn animation would’ve been like. Personally, I imagine it involving it being powered up in somewhere in like, Zomboss’ factory, with it being loaded with Bug Bots and other things
Here’s my idea on would it could look like: Mech Gargantuar gets out of the ground without the upper torso. The rest of the torso lies down while the legs spin around town. Then the 2 Poles appear from its arm to then zoom in at the eyes glowing
Fun Fact: The Mecha Gargantuanar was supposed to be in the first shooter and you can find textures for it, and when put on the model for Pvz Gw2 they match perfectly, the same goes for the future imp and possibly meant that imp was supposed to be in the first garden warfare but was pushed to its sequel.
To be fair, it possibly does. Garden Warfare is still played for a reason. Garden Warfare 2 is also still good, from what I’ve heard. I actually wanted to play both of those games. Battle for Neighborville…that one sucked. It looks more polished but I saw gameplay and it’s just meh.
I've played both games and to be honest, they're fairly interchangable, if you decide to play the original cast. The only major differences is the new characters and the new variety of things you can fight as the zombies, since now you have plant bosses and plant hordes. so GW2 is basically GW1, but more. The only thing we're missing in GW2 is the good boss animations.
There are many reasons I dislike BfN, but I never realized that they essentially just retextured their old boss animations for most bosses and called it a day.

I may be biased because I played it more than the others, but all the bosses in Garden Warfare 1 are the best in my opinion. They look a lot more professional, are actual full fledged cutscenes that really give you a sense of what the enemy can do, rather than just introducing the boss, and they give you some substance to what would just be another brainless zombie. And besides, I have very fond memories of my little brother and I on our PS4's Split Screen mode and kicking some Baron Von BEHIND!
The best is PVZGW1 for sure. You can see that later games wanted to decrease the animation time to reduce the players wait, but unfortunately this decrease also diminished the personality of the zombies and the fun of the animations
GW1 was the reason why I see gargantuars as dads and Imps as kids. The gargantuar petting his son before rippin his telephone pole out of the ground is the most wholesome thing.
