  • Whats up everyone! So in todays video, I try repairing the leather on my 3 year old C8 Corvette. I use a leather repair kit that looks very promising but things dont go as planned. In any case heres the story! Enjoy!
    If your looking to buy a leather repair kit, this is the one I used. Again it may work for very small imperfections but I wouldn't recommend it for large jobs that really should be done by a professional. I'm not sponsored by them so this is just my own personal opinion.

    It's worth noting how grimy the tan seatbelts have gotten. If you're spec'ng a new order... Stick with standard black. Those in colors will never get clean again. That's a pro tip.

      Yeah i need to try and clean the seatbelts but next C8 I own im probably going to go a different direction all together for interior.

    I'm amazed the leather is in that condition with the miles you have. Even not conditioned, I've never had a vehicle with leather do that with low miles. At least you tried. The car is worth it......have the seat professionally done.

      Yeah thats my thought that its a bit premature of wear but figure to give a DIY kit a shot before getting it professionally repaired.

    Before the seats get that way, use Gtechniq leather protector, and be a little careful not to abrade the seats so much getting in and out. It has worked great for me on my 2024 C8.

      My flashlight clip snags my Recaro's in my ATSV. I gotta dye them. Its hard being a working man blue color with nice cars. My knife and mag holder on the other side causes issues too.

    The top off and Texas heat might have also changed the color a little. I say sell it and get a Z06 or E-ray to fix it 👍👍

      That might be the plan secretly in a few months. 😉

    I had a similar issue with my seat. I tried to repair it myself and I wasn't satisfied so I just got the part number from Chevy and replaced the top seat cover because getting it professionally repaired will not look good as it did from the factory.

    On camera the match didn't look too far off. Were your seats coated/protected ever?

    Honestly, it appears you’ve had die transfer. I had red seats in the ‘15 and wear black jeans. After a few months mine would look similar to your backs. My ceramic cleaner would take it if. My wife’s Equinox we use to have, she had a pink Coach purse that got wet, transfer to her light gray seats. Multiple Mr. Clean sponges got it out.

      Hey bud so its not die transfer im pretty sure. The dye transfer comes off pretty easily from my seats as i had done a thorough job before videoing. The seats will pick up alittle bit of blue from my jeans and such that comes out but these spots are more of the top layer has been rubbed off kind of deal.

    Not bad, but did you protect the leather on a yearly basis? Totally agree with the comment above regarding high end leather cleaner and ceramic coating

      @NuHorizonC8  6 днів тому

      Hey bud so I did protect the leather minus ceramic coating. But id consistently use leather cleaner and protectant at least once a month. Still the wear is a but premature in my opinion but i attributed it to me just being a bigger guy in the seat

    Colourlock Leather Repair DIY Kit may help. Would cost more.

    I feel like it matches the but area smooth leather. The sides may have absorbed too much sweat and oils to come back

      @NuHorizonC8  6 днів тому

      Yeah thats my thought. It matches the center seat section pretty close but the bolsters is no where near close. I wish the camera picked it up better.

    GT2 seats are very snug, not surprised that could mean more premature wear.

    I clean mine regularly with Gyeon leather cleaner and then ceramic coat with Gyeon leather ceramic coating.

      Me too, leather holding up great

    I believe this leather has a coating from the factory as per the manual, how is it to absorb? How about warranty?

    • @timcourtney9302
      @timcourtney9302 6 днів тому

      Yes there is a coating. I used this dye to tan cool grey stitching. Worked great. Was easy to clean off the black leather as it would not absorb.
