- Taking the mockingbird for a drive around the block first time since reassembly. Doing some road testing on a 1969 Pontiac firebird that is going thru a total restoration and wanted to verify things are good to this point.

Nothing like a first test drive, regardless of the state of completion!
Exactly and it’s just such a huge boost to the motivation too.
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Brings back memories of using milk crates for test drives.
You bet, milk crates, rims, case of Mountain Dew or a bag of sand
all work good
I liked that you had both driver and pass seats! lol.
lol. I get it. The sand bags.
Great to see the mockingbird go down the road. Disappointed there wasn’t a cooler full of orange drinks ratchet strapped on the passenger side seat area. Always enjoy your videos.
lol. Well dang it missed opportunity for sure. Just have to build another car and get it right this time. 😎
Looking great! Sometimes you gotta have a little fun. Atleast Johnny Law wasn't in the car. Lol. Keep up the great work!
You got that right!
John you're a amazing man!! You do fantastic work sir!!👍🏽
Thank you kindly
Nothing gets you more excited about a project than the first test drive!
Exactly !
Oh yea another Bird has flown the coop!!!!! Reminds me of the first drive in my 67 Bird!!
Memories of the Madden voyage are so great, the first real payout for the work up to that point.
Very exciting! Sounds good,
Thanks! It was a nice payout for the work invested so far.
So fun!
Thanks
Nice neighborhood and nice car 💯👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
I can’t even imagine the feeling of a first drive. Some day. Sounds awesome. Thanks for bringing us along. 👍
Any time! You will get that opportunity but bonus is you and your miss’s will be on that first drive I bet.
I remember my first ride after getting it together! No windshield and my cheeks hurt from nonstop smiling. You are amazing brother, love how much time you put in your builds and your videos! I truly love watching everyone. Can't wait to see the finished product. Have a tremendous day John.
Thanks a ton, a victory lap is such a great payout and reward plus a huge motivator to keep going. Appreciate you watching!
Awesome 💪 😎
Thanks ✌
Just a fledging right now!
Yup
I’m a 66/67 GTO guy, but always loved the Firebird’s of that year. These videos makes me want to build a 69 clone T/A
Well you know I will say go for it! I do have an appreciation for the GTO as well toss up for 69/70 being my favorite, I had a 67 that I rather enjoyed as well.
Lucky, nice quiet neighbourhood... was that a parked cop car lol?
Quite neighborhood indeed and the second part maybe…….
awesome burnout Jon. lol. That bird looks great even in primer. Man you did a fantastic job with panel alignment. Love It!!
Thanks 👍 time
Well spent and makes a huge difference when done
John I have the big buck gardner exhaust with resonators and transverse. Factory bent. Perfect fit no tweak.
I just looked them up, they sell everything include the hangers and clamps.
It does a burnout, I call that a win! Lucky the black Charger didn't follow you back. Lol...
lol. Yeah that might have made for a bad day.
@@VinylVillageGarage
Amazing how fast this car is coming along! Keep up the great work!
@@rajcam80 I can’t complain. The extra day a week I get has really made a difference. I might be done in less than a year.
@@VinylVillageGarage
Very impressive sir!
I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into your work and these videos.
Glad you like them! Its all about sharing the experience and having fun
Seat belts, we don't need no stinking seat belts 😂😂😂
lol nope!
Very cool to see the first test drive already!
Moving right along
Yup a definite win...great content as always and thanks 🔧🔧👍
Right on
Looks better than my '68! Great job, thanks for taking us on the journey!!
You bet!
Great video brother you deserve a Victory lap the 69 bird is looking great and sounds great you are making want a 69 Firebird convertible now just don't tell the wife 🤫
That would be cool and your secret is safe with me. But everyone else that reads this might feel differently 🤣😉
Hell yeah sounds good 👍👍👍👍
Really going to be a nice car when done.
My First F-body was a 69 Firebird, before I went into the Navy, I miss that car.
That is really cool, my first car was a Plymouth turismo. I don’t think I miss it at all
I'll be curious to know how the trans works after you adjust the modulator valve. When I rebuilt mine, I put in a Trans Go 1 & 2 shift kit, to firm up the shifts. No doubt the modulator adjustment should make a difference.
I will keep you posted.
Man only 20 hours into this project? You are flying Sir….
I started in December so this one is the quickest build so far for me.
Awesome mile stone! First trial ride! My 69 camaro getting closer, thanks to your help, and threw your videos. Driver side Sub frame box installed kick panel like in your videos! And a Half floor panel to top of the driveshft tunnel. What a job for a first-timer. Floor panel 3/4 finished. Do you have recommendations for a panel bonding? I've seen so many and no clue which to use to seal up the floor. Thanks again for amazing tech and how to videos.
That is Great glad to hear success stories of making it happen, Now panel bonding and seam sealer not same stuff. Are you asking what seam sealer I use? If so transtar brand is my first choice mostly because it’s available from my local paint shop
@VinylVillageGarage thank you on the seam sealer it's a must need! With the new floor panel and kick panels and pitch weld on bottom rocker that should also be done with seam sealer? Cause I do have so small gaps that 50 years of twisted mental won't let me pull in unless I mess up paint and bottom rocker. The gap is like a 1/32, and only the front Kick panel meets inside the rocker. Would you just fill in with seam sealer? darn, I wish I could share pictures. For a DIY first, I think it's turning out awesome. Thank you again for your amazing videos and replies.
Looking good, sounding good! Thought you were getting a police escort for your test drive...lol
What size tires are you running?
Im not famous enough to get a proper police escort. 😎 14x7 rim 225/70r14 tires.
I had the same issue with my hinges. Couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t go all the way down lol. A little lube was the ticket. Who would have thought? Haha.
It helps soooooooo much and I can’t believe it slipped my mind. I said it so many times when messing with hinges.
drives past a cop car lol,I remember back in the 80's I put a 700R in my 66 Chevelle, it lasted about 6 months
I suspect the chevelle had a big block too.
Driving might wiggle the panels gaps into place, or out of place.
All the more reason to drive it
Hey John need help. 68 firebird stock 350 auto, Gardner exhaust. What causes droning sound through the exhaust? Has a stupid humming. Thanks!
Do you have the resonators or just the transverse muffler? The resonators make a huge difference for the better
sometimes ya just have to drive them
Exactly!
Hi Jon,
What about that cop you passed??? -;)
Maybe…….
Will you be putting a convertible top on it yourself?
Yup, I already fixed the frame. It was twisted and damaged bad. My guess someone opened the top while driving to fast. It was messed up.
@@VinylVillageGarage can’t wait for the top install video, maybe you can simplify it, just seems like voodoo to folks like me
front and rear tires are 225 s ????
That is correct
@@VinylVillageGarage thanks i had asked before but rear look thinner thanks
Do you have 15 inch wheels on this one?
Nope 14x7
Cool , I was curious about the 69,s , didn’t know if 15 s were standard by then, Thanks
@@davidbisnette7673 good question. 14 was it still in 1969
WTF. Was that a cop you just drove by? How did you make it by without getting pulled over?
He is my neighbor, kinda used to my shenanigans, how is see it a lot of neighbors have golf carts and they drive them on the main roads so
Just a quick little cruise in my “golf cart” is cool 😎
Lmao you passed a cop
Yeah he is my neighbor,
Pretty cool guy actually. Our daughters are friends too.
Maybe…..🙄
Dang. I'm disappointed in this video. When I saw the tape on the door, I immediately knew that you were not going over any sweet jumps on the test drive.
Lol well dang it missed opportunity, maybe next test drive put it up on 2 wheels and see how far I can drive
