Maybe not insurance but maybe warranty. That's a catastrophic failure due to some internal component failure. I've only replaced two compressors just like that in my life.

Looks like the compressor got slugged by liquid refigerant. Hydrolocked

All my career I injected freon on low side as a gas. In my last few years before retiring I see guys using the high side , it goes in as liquid. Some cars there’s no choice but be sure to let pressure equalize before starting if injecting high side before you start it up. I think your assumption is 100%, now what/who to blame

@buffystclair9042 I suppose it's possible the compressor just had a catastrophic failure. But I would think the engine would be running fast when it occurred because if it was idle you would assume it woukd stall the engine

Could just be part failure, not owner's fault. Were there finger smudges on port caps to see if anyone recently overcharged before you filled it? Check cabin filter for being clogged and never been replaced.
2:14 see the compressor has a middle, front, and back that fits together. The middle has the pistons, and on the belt pulley side is the wobble plate. As someone said it could have got slugged, the wobble plate spinning and kicked the bottom of the piston out the side. If you haven't touched the ports, see if someone's dirty fingers have left smudges on the port caps and recently overfilled. People have no idea how AC works and think they can put a whole can in anytime it's not working right, don't realize you need to weigh in the charge down to the correct ounce or two. Also see if cabin air filter is complete clogged where the evap can't absorb heat. Though bypass valve would have opened so stopped allowing refrigerant to compress or some sensing circuit disabled clutch (this probably uses bypass valve and no clutch). Wobble plate could be on back side, not sure how bypass valve compressors are setup.

Looks like it let the mist out. Failure of the AC compressor caused that.

I know one thing:this isn’t a rib on Stellantis or anything but the casting on that compressor looks aweful considering when all you have to do is hit the aluminum a certain way and the components start leaking!🧐😳
