Thanks very much Mr Gilman for posting this great video. I've gone through and memorised the whole form. It's so clearly shown. it's a pleasure to do it. It's also a very beautiful form.
thank you for your explanation of the swords and their application. I think the more you know about the history of your weapons, the better it helps your practice.
Excellent video. I teach Yang style Tai chi but I've never done the sabre. This demonstration is amazing and lovely to watch. Finding someone to teach me the sabre is very difficult but as I've practiced the long sword for a long time now it's not difficult for me to learn the sabre with such detailed and clear demonstration.
P LF I think the Saber is much easier to learn than the Sword. With the saber, our movements are bigger and broader which is easier to manage than the more subtle sword moves. I'glad you are enjoying my video.
As always, clear and precise instructions with various demonstrations to help understand better. I haven't yet learned any Tai Chi weapon forms. I did learn a Kung Fu Staff Form many years ago, and more recently a Kung Fu Fan Form. My current Tai Chi teacher will be teaching us a Tai Chi Sword form shortly, so I'll be interested to see how it goes.
Thank you Michael for really professional expertise of traditional Chinese weapon such as Saber and other. Especially for me explanation of small lines on sword that is using for blood avoiding sliding hand ;-) just wandered what was it for
I really enjoy learning taichi from these videos, the short form , long form, the sabre form. Will you make the lesson about other yang taichi weapons such as sword and spear in the future?
Thanks for sharing, interesting stuff. I am learning Wu style sabre, people talk about the eight slashes of the tai chi sabre . What are the eight type of slashes individually, do you know or use them? Wu came from Yang, some similarities, but the hand positions are used differently. I am in Australia.
vertical up and down, horizontal side to side, diagonal up each side, diagonal down each side. draw an octagon and draw lines to each point - everything has 8 general directions of movement. If your kung fu isn't teaching you these kinds of basics you should really read a good Kenpo/Kempo book. Basic Kali/Escrima/Arnis would help a lot too if your only interested in weapons and not MA as a whole.

This might be the only good sabre instruction on the web.
Tahank you Shifu Michael. As always your instructions open new doors to my learning.
Pedro from Florida.
Slow form from 32.55 to 38.00 for those learning it! Many thanks to Gilman laoshi.

One thing:
They are not blood grooves, they are fullers. They're there to cut down weight but still provide strength in the blade.
kwanarchive Thank you for the comment. I haven't heard this before, but it makes sense. Maybe a combination of both.
Believe a fuller streghthens the spine, acts as a shock absorber.

+Tao Noi I don't have any plans at the moment. Thanks for asking.
it woulde be nice if you place a video about taichi fan!thank you
