Will US Aggression Stop Eurasian Integration or Accelerate It? w/ Vijay Prashad

  • Why is the US willing to risk a nuclear apocalypse to weaken Russia and China? Our leaders say it’s about protecting the international rules based order from an authoritarian axis of evil. But this is just a guise. It’s actually about maintaining US unipolar hegemony over the world, which requires preventing or at the very least delaying the integration of Europe and Asia, an integration that is logical, both economically and geographically.
To discuss this and more Rania Khalek was joined by Vijay Prashad, Executive Director of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research and author of many books including “Washington Bullets: A History of the CIA, Coups, and Assassinations."

I think people from less advanced countries don't understand the concept of power struggle. Or at least they pretend not to understand it no matter their illustrious heritage of philosophy.
The concept of power struggle is inherent to life itself and extends into every other activity carried out by living beings from bacteria to humans if they are to be considered at the top. To live is to struggle for power, that is paraphrasing Buddha.
Once you accept that REALITY then you need to face this question about which I am going to be blatantly open because I am sick of these pseudo "intellectual" arguments, be they out of ignorance or deliberate propaganda:
If it is not the US that you think is screwing you then the rules of the power struggle DICTATE that there will always be some other country that will be the top dog and screwing you, unless you are the top dog yourself like the delusions that India has. Even then you will be screwed by your own government because that is the nature of power struggle. This is why everyone from Scandinavians all the way down to the destitute population of Congo complains about their governments.
So, just imagine a country that is headed by an ultranationalist like Modi who commits genocide of Muslims, blatantly on a pretty frequent basis, or where women are gang raped on public buses, and no one, even the police will intervene and the explanation of the authorities is "boys will be boys" becoming the top dog instead of the US.
The US is no angel but imagine you were not being screwed by the US but by India or Russia? Are you going to think that anyone is stupid enough to believe that you prefer to be screwed by either of those countries instead of the US?
So, stop this nonsense. At the moment this is the best available and while I totally agree that the US is shamefully far from perfect but then again like the famous beggars of Kolkata you can't be choosers.
Maybe, even from the anthropological point of view that is why the US is the top dog.
If you look at apes' society it is not just dominance that determines who is going to head the group. After all, females have a strong say in it because without them there is no new life. That is why brute force might temporarily rule but if he is too violent and not considered caring enough by the females, his days are numbered. The others soon later gather around the one the females prefer and gang up against the head of the group and either kill him or expel him from the group. The top dog doesn't just have to be the physically strongest but shrewd enough to keep allies amongst the female as well as the male population. That is how evolution works in social species.

Seriously, what is foreign policy? Personally, foreign policy is nothing more than I can date whoever I like. Uncle Sam said you are only allowed to date the boys I approve of. So to talk about foreign policy without independence is to think like a girl to daddy. Gaullism is nothing but girllism, and American foreign policy is machismo. Rania and Vijay are two extremely astute observers and analysts. It's a treat to get my world view fix from you two.
I am alarmed of the anxiety felt by Vijay about the dangerous times we live in with the US, NATO, G7 pushing everyone's buttons including some of its own allies as well. But I do feel that that the imperialists are not going to get away with uniting the world behind it through a false flag operation against Russia and China that could lead to a nuclear fallout. Its not succeeding in the proxy war in Ukraine.
There is an Islamic tradition that says man plans and plans but God Almighty is the best of planners. May the world be spared from the senseless murder and mayhem of the shameless self appointed rulers of the world. Happy new year to you both.

Half the islanders have been brainwashed by the US for more than 50 years. In the Cold War era Taiwan was made a US base with 9000 personnel from army navy and airforce. They flew U2 spy planes to China and 5 were shot down. US troops withdrew after US pledged One China Policy in 1979 but the US itself never left. Many islanders now imagine their island is the same class as the mainland. What economic developments do they have? What infrastructures? What scientific advancements? Do they have space programs? How many top universities do they have? What GDP? What R&D budget? How many Fortune 500 companies? How many billionaires? How many countries recognise them except a few other islands also brainwashed by the US?

With so many nations within the Eurasian landmass much under-developed, BRI logistics connectivity across this landmass will certainly help them to become part of progress in the 21st Century. With rail links being supported throughout Eurasian, this connectivity will only bring progress; making this the main growth center of this century. As Vijay had noted this landmass can easily be rail-linked to the African continent. Time EU think of its future growth otherwise NATO will drag them down; as already shown with disagreement to settle the Ukraine issue with Russia. Next is the fact that the US isn't printing cash right now due to inflation.... They are in a phase of QT. You can't do too much QE (printing cash) because then the international community loses faith in the value of the currency and engages in capital flight. Inflation also has negative consequences when it's persistently high. So no printing at this time. QE was exhausted during the pandemic. Great discussion Rania and Vijay. Quite a ray of topics covered.
You spoke about regionalism and I really think that's the inescapable way the world will have to go esp to solve the prob of reserve currency.
    Beyond the Jackboot diplomacy US has used to maintain the dollar reserve currency status since 1971, it just does not make any sense to accord one single currency that status cuz;
    1) the reserve currency country can just resort to annual GDP made up of mostly currency printing which the rest of the world pays for by absorbing the exported inflation.
40% of total USD ever printed was printed in 2021. While other countries were borrowing to cover for the pandemic, US was just printing USD and now the whole world is suffering the exported inflation.
    2) the reserve-currency country can seize and steal other countries foreign reserves, as US does in the name of sanctions, from time to time, esp cuz it has military power to bandy around and intimidate other countries
I think the best way to go is to have regional economic unions each with its Index/Reserve currency, just like the Euro, but each country may still retain their local currency. The Index/Reserve currency will be used for regional and international trades and payments.
Say South/Central America has its own Index/Reserve currency as Brazil is pushing for, USD becomes a reserve currency just for North America, Euro is already there for much of Europe, Africa's economic communities (ECOWAS, EAC, SADC, and so on) each creates its own Index/Reserve currencies, same for Asia (West, Central, East, SE Asia or any other arrangements).
    1. These Index/Reserve currencies will trade and exchange with each other - no dominant one. Every imports have to be paid for in the Index/Reserve currency of the exporting regional economic bloc
    2. Countries can then maintain their reserves in their own local/regional Index/Reserve currency
    3. No country and its people will suffer sanctions and loss of their (foreign) reserves or denial of access to it
    4. An int'l institution set up to monitor valuation metrics and exchange rates among the Index currencies and each regional bloc to also monitor component currencies to forestall currency manipulations
    5. No more feeding off of other countries GDP and foreign reserves indirectly by just printing USD and exported inflation around the world
    6. No more financial enslavement of other countries by just printing USD, giving them off as loans to other countries and capture their prized resources and economies as collaterals without breaking any sweat

Most of NATO 17 out of 30 states (28 if we include Turkey) and they need co-operation to equip and train their forces. Using the existing command structure means that in the event of a sudden or uexpected threat, they can co-ordinate. Europe produces most of its warplanes in co-operative ventures. They stated to develop a more European posture during the trump years. It is the biggest trading bloc on the planet having trade agreements with 70 + other states. It sends as much aid as the US. The only conventional military threat to Europe is from Russia and even a few years ago most did not think conflict was likely. If has come to pass and shows the sense in maintaining NATO.

It is always great to see Vijay Prashad and hear his thought and knowledge. But small correction about what he said in end of video (around 50-52min), that Russia was concerned if USA put nuclear missiles in Ukraine. That is not exactly truth, but generally yes... Russia was afraid if Ukraine join NATO or become other ways deeply part of the military forces (since Ukraine been officially quite hostile against Russia since 2014), but the thing about nuclear weapons in context of Ukraine - Kreml was not worried that USA may put their nuclear weapons to Ukraine, but that Ukraine create their own nuclear weapons, since Zelensky started talk about it year ago publicly. And Russian officials commented, that it is serious treat, since they know exactly that Ukraine is much more capable to build nuclear weapons than Iran ever been. That it won't be "5 years", they can build it almost immediately. Ukraine knows how to do them, they were part of USSR, and they still has scientists, facilities, equipments etc, to build their nuclear weapons. And for Russia, having unstabile and hostile neighbour with nuclear weapons, it is out of question. Millions will die if mistake is taken.
I personally think, that as soon as Zelensky started seriously talk about having nuclear weapons, Kreml took time to seriously consider options and saw that military actions are needed before words become reality. I believe that military actions would happend year ago, if Ukraine officials would talked seriously about nuclear weapons year earlier. Or it may not be happen yet, if there would not be talk about getting those weapons. I do not think that talk about nuclear weapons were reason for the escalation, but I think it was "step too much".
It is one thing to have nuclear weapons in this or that country, and have nuclear weapons in country which openly spreads hate against ethnic group and speak about killing those people. In this case it is Ukrainian influentials and officials against Russians. At least it is most worrisome from those perspective, who is threatened by those hatemongers.

Please correct this: There is no djiadism here in Mali. The country is over 80% Muslim and we live in perfect harmony with the other religions (Christianity and traditionalist). You can clearly see that it is soon wrong to say that there is djiadism. It's wrong. It is a pretext used by the West to invade other countries. The REAL reason why France is screwed out is due to two things:
    - It does the work of the West, which wants to recolonize Africa by redrawing our countries. And for that, France sponsors the terrorists here (armament, financing, intelligence)
    - After the slavery continued by colonization, France continues to impose its dictators on us, its currency continues to make us slaves of its economy. According to a German newspaper, it is nearly 500 billion dollars that 15 African countries among the poorest in the world, pay to this France and this since December 26, 1945! (via its crooked currency the CFA franc, the stealing and plundering of our resources, and other neocolonial taxes.). It is almost 500 billion dollars EVERY YEAR that we give to this France on the bank count of the "Caisse de Dépot and Consignationof the French Public Treasury ". You understand why this France finds it difficult to leave Africa, on which it has made itself dependent. Likewise the French language that we speak has been imposed in rape and violence. This language is killing our civilizations and our cultures.
In short, we no longer want this rape relationship that has been going on for centuries and which it is true that we have trouble getting rid of. But we the youth have sworn that neither France nor the USA should remain with their occupying armies on our soil.
Finally, is it not out of unconditional love or naivety that we turn to Russia or China? No. It's just that they are partners of circumstances and they are much less worse than the West or NATO. With us we say that when someone is drowning, he is ready to grab the tail of the crocodile ... EVERYTHING except the West whose misdeeds we have known for almost 600 years!!

In the same way sanctions have been worked around by Russia & trade partners very quietly in some cases. In this time of companies inside of companies with subsidiaries & "silent partners" in a multinational trade network, such connections are possible for large nations. Of course, this substantially pares down the benefits of such trade to the nation & people & puts the winnings in the hands of a few, as usual.

Russia leans towards Asia culturally for a long time. the place offered in G7-8 was refused by Putin as it went against core values of Russian culture. the cheap elitism of the West does not land in Russian soul which is seeking fairness and equality by birth.
WHY Eurasia is ABLE to integrate? the cultures respect each other differences and do not impose own beliefs on each other by force or coercion. that includes Eastern branch of Christians. Russians see forceful conversion as a sin. that is why its expansion was coherent through blending cultures together keeping their identity intact. too much of a loss. each culture is a world treasure.

Vijay did not answer the question "will US agression stop Eurasian Integratoin or Accl it" directly. But he seems to be saying that US agression seems to be working. Europe is deindustrializing not primarily because of the subsidies in the IRA law but because they no longer have access to cheap Russian energy. The IRA simply means that instead of moving all their factories to China, they will move them to the US and China. And European governments are all bending at the knee to the US even as their people demonstrate in the streets against US policy. Zelensky campaigned and won election by saying he would negotiate peace with Russia and end the conflict in the Donbass, and then when elected, made a 180 U turn. This seems to happen in many perhaps most European countries.
