Hey Carpetbagger! So sorry that I missed you on your visit. I work in the restoration shop at THE CAROUSEL MUSEUM and would loved to have given you the tour. And to answer your question…yes, sadly many carousels were lost to fire. I hope you will come back to visit again!
Thank you so much for your Video's..I'm a subscriber. I have cancer. Had masectomy. Many complications. I start a two year chemo treatment very soon. I'm allready handicapped. So im living life thru your jourmeys. I'm not able to do that anymore. I'm so grateful for you, don't ever change. You always bring smile to my face. Love you and Jenn. ❤☺️😘🙏🙏
Jacob, welcome to CT. I've been to Compounce and the Carousel museum. Always enjoy your videos. So many interesting places I wouldn't experience otherwise. Keep up the good work.
That Carousel Museum was amazing. A lot of animals I have never seen before . Loved that natural donkey . Lake Compounce truly had some surprises .The dark ride was awesome . Thanks for taking us along Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤
Oh my gosh! I was just there 3 days ago!! I juuusttt missed you! I would of LOVED to meet you! It’s such a great theme park with such cool ancient history.
Aside from your Halloween Hollerin season, this is what I love the most! These older amusement parks are as American as apple pie! It makes my heart so very happy to see!! I have absolutely loved this summer of 🎠 carousels 🎠 thank you Jacob!
Thank you for sharing your day at Lake Compounce, Jacob! I grew up in CT and used to go to the park when they had concerts.. saw PIL, New Order, Billy Idol, etc. Fun spot!
Nice to see you visiting my childhood amusement park. The Boo-Blaster (yes, it's technically called "Ghost Hunt," but my family & I always called it Boo-Blaster) ride was always my favorite. I miss it a lot.
I grew up in CT and went here as a kid. There was also a park called Quassy and Riverside which was in Mass. Both are gone now I'm pretty sure. I moved west and left that cold climate behind :)
Kennywood, Lake Compounce and Story Land are all owned by the same company. At Story Land, in the Antique Cars ride, there are billboards interspersed that advertise the other two parks.
I grew up in Bristol in sight and sound of Lake Compounce. Frank Sinatra played at Lake Compounce in the Starlight Ballroom (where the carousel is now located) , and the old "Bristol Stomp" song (The Dovels 1961) was about dancing at the park. The whole park is supposed to be haunted and has had some accidents over the years. Great video (as usual)!
26:35 This is where the outdoor mist section was before the 2008 rehab with the LED mirrors when they opened in 1999-2007 before onward to 2008-now, They changed the room from the outdoor balcony scene to the enclosed mirrors room because the mist equipments in that room began to rust out and was decided to enclose the entire room to become the LED Hall Of Mirrors. It even sorta had thunderstorm sound effects in that room as well not just the mist and the open area. Not only that, but also they used to have doors in a couple of few rooms, but now they don’t.
Thank you Jacob, I havent been there in 20 yrs or so. Use to visit every year. Dads job had a picnic there. Some has changed but most has stayed the same. Wildcat, Boulder Dash and the log flume were my favorites. Thanks again!
My dad grew up in Bristol, and went to school right near the Carousel Museum. I've driven past it more times than I can count and never knew how nice it was until seeing this. Also, Lake Compounce is where I rode my first rollercoaster. Such a great old amusement park.
The Spillman carousel at Lincoln Park in Los Angeles burned in 1924, but firemen were able to save five horses, which were moved to L.A.’s Griffith Park. Three were fully restored and put on their carousel, but two that were more badly burned are exhibited next to the carousel’s organ, in charred but stil beautiful condition.
That Milli Vanilli trivia is wild. I looked it up and the Zoomerang now stands where the ampitheater they played at used to stand. I'm surprised to realize it wasn't the lipsyncing incident itself wasn't what brought them down. It was actually their manager admitting to the scheme the following year that blew the thing apart. 😮
Hi carpetbagger! I just want you to know that we love your videos and my daughter smiles and laughs and giggles every time she sees your video! You're awesome!
I live fifteen minutes from Lake Compounce. Every summer we used to hang out there. I remember when the park was mostly grass and you could picnic all over it. There was grass around the Wildcat roller coaster. And you could go swimming and boating in the lake. The Wildcat was the first roller coaster I ever rode when I was a little kid. Everything is paved there now. I remember when they put Boulderdash in. Man that's a fun coaster. When they first put it in, it was fast all the way through and didn't slow down at all during any of the parts. That little coaster could move. They also used to have a concert venue there, and we went there to see a lot of shows during the 90's. There were a lot of complaints from people who lived there locally about the loudness of the concerts. I recall seeing Midnight Oil there, Sinead O'Conner, and there was a real disastrous show with the Ramones as the headlining act, with Tom Tom Club (Talking Heads without David Byrne). But that show made it through the first act, and then this HORRIFIC thunder storm with torrential rains came in and the entire show just got rained out.
I was actually there in 1990 when I attended a school in Westbrook CT. It sure changed since I was there. But I was recently in the area and I did visit the carousel museum . In fact I was there a few weeks ago. Also if you get a chance to come by Bristol again, you have to go to Bushnell Park and ride their carousel. An authentic 1912 Stein and Goldstein with exquisite horses. Hope you’re in Boston soon because I do not live far from there. I’m but a twenty minute ride on the subway from the greenway carousel and the frog pond carousel as well. Hope to meet you some day so I can give you a tour of bean town.
@Carpetbagger, being the year of the carousel, I'm surprised that you didn't stop in Hartford (about 20 mins from LC off I-84) to visit The Bushnell Park Carousel. It's behind the state capitol in Bushnell Park. It's a 1914 Stein & Goldstein carousel. Currently, this carousel is only one of three left left operating in this country. Loved seeing the NECM and Lake Compounce - which has really changed since the last time I was there.
Been to Compounce many times even had our company picnic there. I remember when they had huge concerts there. Now it's a roller coaster lol. I since moved to Colorado hope to get back someday. You should try Lake Quassapaug too they have a carousel you would like.
Jacob- ‘look at that, live ur childhood dream of riding a dog.’ 😊 Me, who was a very small and light child, with a great, big, powerful dog as her pet- ‘Already done (but only that one time lol) he liked to pull my wagon too. Good ole Astro…RIP buddy. ❤️
The Summer of Carousels absolutely should be a t-shirt. I'm thinking maybe in a sideshow banner theme, with a possum riding a horse, or maybe even a Camel. Also, whenever you get a chance to ride a Goat, ride the Goat.
Great video love seeing all the carousel 🎠. The funny thing about Milli Vanilli is they actually had really great voices and could sing but there manager told them to lip sync because there accents were so strong.
Have been to Lake Compounce a few times with my niece and nephew. Had a great time and had my first fried Oreo ( Yum, Yum) there. Halloween is fun time to go. My great niece was a vampire there a few years ago.
That was a great video. I love the Carousel animals, they are just magical to me. That park looked fantastic and kept up well. One of these days I have to find that dark ride boo blasters I love stuff like that. I have to share they just opened up a Scheels and that store is amazing. However, they did not put in their ferris wheel d/t they where moving into a vacant building and the cost was extremely high, but I love the shooting gallery and I must confess I immediately thought of you lol. Keep the great work, hope your staying cool and drive safe. PS. Tell Jenn howdy and I hope she is doing OK with this heat too.
In the late 80s-early 90s Lake C was the only place around to see an outdoor concert with major national bands. I personally saw Metallica, The Scorpions, Poison, and the Clash of the Titans tour, and know for a fact bands like Styx, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Billy Idol, Steve Miller Band, and Rod Stewart played there as well.
If you like carousels, a trip to Binghamton, NY (the “Carousel City”) is worthwhile. Of the 150 wood carved carousels left in the US and Canada, six are in the greater Binghamton area. All are free to ride (a legacy from when the Johnson family donated them to local parks back in the 1920s).
Cool to see you go to the lake. I don’t live to far from the park. If you are still in ct. they do have a trolley museum in east windsor and the peez factory and van visitor center that is in orange ct. have a great day and keep the cool stuff coming
Omg you were there and I missed you 😭 My family has season passes. Unfortunately my 8 year old daughter broke her leg, so we haven’t been there since the beginning of July.
FunFact about the trolley: That trolley was restored origionally by the Ct Trolley Museum. And it was eventaly given to Lake compounce. The Reason why they have one and run one, Mostly for hystorical sakes. L.C Wasnt a trolley park but they did have a Trolley line run through there. The Open air cars would also Take people to The Yale Bowl and of course Lake componce., Ive noticed the hand break and the Whissle are in different locations. (Our own 303 has it on the front of the cab and the Hand break is a wheel.)
Hi Jacob, another very interesting video, so enjoy your museum tours, & lake Compounce is a very pretty park. Its my birthday today & this has made my day! Thank you. ❤
Hey Carpetbagger!

Hey Carpetbagger! Just wanted to say again it was great meeting you at Otherworld! Keep up the great work!
I was hoping and praying I would run into him at otherworld, but he was there the next day. So jealous you got to meet him.
Me too I missed him.
I saw him in the lobby area and told him I am a big fan. He was super nice.

Jacob, welcome to CT. I've been to Compounce and the Carousel museum. Always enjoy your videos. So many interesting places I wouldn't experience otherwise. Keep up the good work.
That was so fun. There’s something about the old fashioned amusement parks that fell so comfy.
That Carousel Museum was amazing. A lot of animals I have never seen before . Loved that natural donkey . Lake Compounce truly had some surprises .The dark ride was awesome . Thanks for taking us along Keep Safe ❤Keep Well❤

Hey Carpetbagger. I enjoy your posts because you just love life.
LOVEEEE seeing all of these amazing carousels as of late!! 🎉 Thank you!!
The lost to Fire Rooster Merry-Go-Round can be seen in the 1968 Rosalind Russell/Stella Stevens film “Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows”
Love all things caurosel. Great park and enjoyed the merry go round museum as well.
Love your videos, Jacob. Was hoping to see you riding the front seat of BOULDER DASH!
Went many times in my youth, also Riverside in Agawam Ma. which is now six flags. My favorite ride at Riverside was the Laugh In The Dark.
Thank you so much for taking us around the states and seeing things. Your the best❤
Jmmy 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
@33:00 Zoomers looks like Dollywood's Rockin Roadway. Each car has their own sound system (and horn)

YAY you finally checked out the New England Carousel Museum! Love it there.
I love all the dark rides great graphics on this dark ride
Definitely visit the Boston Greenway Carousel! It's a fun one. If you plan on going give us a heads up I'd love to meet you.
Enjoying the summer of carousels. Interested in amusement park history since I live near the big ones in Orlando. Keep at it!
oh man...I went to Lake Compounce with an old friend like 20 years ago...this video just unlocked some great memories!

Remember the concerts they had? Man, that was the best.
Enjoyed replay thanks for sharing your experience 😀 😊 👍🏼 ☺️
Wow some beautifully painted animal's. They are just magical the carousel rides.

Quassy is still open
Yes, Quassy is still open and Riverside is now a Six Flags.
Kennywood, Lake Compounce and Story Land are all owned by the same company. At Story Land, in the Antique Cars ride, there are billboards interspersed that advertise the other two parks.
Thank you for all the footage of the Carousels I really enjoyed this one Jacob
Looks like a fun place. Luv the carousel 🎠🎠♥️. Have a fun day, and stay hydrated.

This is the third time I have subscribed to you channel.
Dorney Park Allentown, Pa had a fire in the 70s/80s when it’s Rooster Merry Go Round burned along with it’s Super Slide and walk through Wacky Shack.
That was pretty nice
This brings back some memories. Used to ride the Wildcat and the Pirate ship
My dad grew up in Bristol, and went to school right near the Carousel Museum. I've driven past it more times than I can count and never knew how nice it was until seeing this.
Also, Lake Compounce is where I rode my first rollercoaster. Such a great old amusement park.
Jacob, you did another great video. That place looks fun.
Love all the beautiful carousels, Jacob
Awesome!!!👍
Nice theme park. Looks immaculate

Look like a fun day & interesting history !
Im not from the north im more of a southern lol like you carpetbagger 😊 thanks for sharing this, looks awesome. You take care my friend 🤓📸

Glad you came to my state. Connecticut 😄 welcome
36:54 That ride reminds me of the Hungry Hungry Hippo game! 😂
Very scenic train ride!
I like how they are playing Define Dancing from Wall-E and Soarin' lol❤ Awesome park!
I noticed that too 😂
There is an old carousel in Kit Carson County Fair in Burlington Colorado right off I70 close to Kansas border.
I was actually there in 1990 when I attended a school in Westbrook CT. It sure changed since I was there. But I was recently in the area and I did visit the carousel museum . Right in my backyard, dude - great video!

You mentioned Rye Playland early on in your video and it is also the answer to one of your questions. In 2017 it's carousel pavilion caught on fire.
Jacob- ‘look at that, live ur childhood dream of riding a dog.’ 😊
Me, who was a very small and light child, with a great, big, powerful dog as her pet- ‘Already done (but only that one time lol) he liked to pull my wagon too. Good ole Astro…RIP buddy. ❤️
Suggestion, you should see the carousel in Balboa Park in Cali, it's a fun one. One of my favs❤❤🎠
That carousel goat had lifeless eyes. Dull eyes. Like a doll's eyes.
The indoor all wooden carousel in Kingsport has a working Wurlitzer music machine.
That moxie bike is amazing. I believe it was used in parades. And that is the best soda in the world, as any Mainah would tell ya!
Got some Soarin' vibes at 39:26
The Summer of Carousels absolutely should be a t-shirt. I'm thinking maybe in a sideshow banner theme, with a possum riding a horse, or maybe even a Camel. Also, whenever you get a chance to ride a Goat, ride the Goat.
Awesome park. You should have gone on Boulder Dash! It's an epic coaster!
Be sure to check out the flying horse carousel in Westerly, Rhode Island.
Keep up the great work jacob 🤘😎🤘🇺🇸

Seabreeze Carousel fire, seems to be the one I seen the most.
Logansport Indiana has a “catch the ring” Carousel
I’d love to see you visit 🙌🏻

The Boston carousel is pretty sweet.. Its only 4 bucks a ride and the selection is rather impressive. I've ridden the hawk and lobster!

The carousel at Seabreeze in Rochester burned down in 1994. It was really sad when it happened.
My home park!
Cool to see you go to the lake. I don’t live to far from the park. If you are still in ct. they do have a trolley museum in east windsor and the peez factory and van visitor center that is in orange ct. have a great day and keep the cool stuff coming

Was the band organ working when you went to Lake Compounce?

You found the Go-Goat!!!
