    Nice video! There are a couple of items that are worth noting about the radio. The top button isn't just an alarm button. It is actually a third programmable button that can be configured to two of the same 16 functions as the two programmable side keys, on a short and long press. This essentially gives the radio three programmable buttons.
    Also, the two PTT buttons are programmable. There is no need to swap out the areas to match the PTT buttons, because you can swap the buttons to match the top or bottom areas if you prefer. Each PTT can be programmed to be the main PTT or the secondary PTT. Plus, either can be progammed to only work on Area A or Area B. One PTT can also be programmed to transmit on low power, and another on ultrahigh power, or to an assigned call group. There are a lot of features in this radio that are not really 'hidden" but haven't yet been discovered by users.

      Excellent! Love the info! The best part about new radios coming out is discovering new things about them as you go. 👍🏻

      Nice radio. But I've heard that the screen is impossible to read outdoors and the other text and background choices are also not readable outdoors. Did you find this to be true?. Is WOUXUN likely to fix it. It may be a deal breaker for me!

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  6 місяців тому

      @@leeebob2 I haven't had issues with outdoor visibility. The screen isn't the brightest, by any means, but when walking around outside monitoring repeaters, it's been fine for me.

      It's definitely a tough choice! SO many options. This Wouxun has been serving me quite well since making this video. I'd still recommend it if you're shopping in that $200-250 price range.
      ps. Great to hear from a fellow Okie!

    I purchased one but had to return it. The sound quality was dire, especially on 2mtrs. It sounded to be off channel, but even adjusting for that didn't fix it. Maybe it only affected the early batch?

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  10 місяців тому +1

      Odd. I haven't experienced that personally. That said, the support department at buytwowayradios.com where I purchased mine can typically do an RMA if you think you got a lemon. Their turn around time is pretty quick as well.

    I love Wouxun radios. I was keen to get this one but it seems to have bad spurs. Hoping they get that sorted, especially coming from a US retailer.🙏
    Great video, just subbed, looking forward to more video's.👍🤠

      Thank you! I appreciate the feedback :)
      And yes, I've also seen the spurs issue on some other videos for this radio. I'm curious to see if there will be a "version 2" of this radio in the future that might have better filtering on the transmit side.

      Yes, I agree. Maybe they somehow released a prototype, I can't imagine e Wouxun doing this on purpose. Hoping it will be corrected soon.

      I mean… based on your inability to compose a simple sentence in a message message I’m pretty sure we should all be ignoring your input on radios. Lol. It’s one of those simple rules for reading reviews. If someone can’t type a sentence to save their life their input oughta be removed from the pool.

    This looks like a winner .
    No multi antennas going to work right on 6m even the old ud1p hrs had bad swr antennas use Kenwood low and antenna for tk 190 it'll screw in they are rated for 50mhz . But tro band antennas for 2m 1.25m , 70cm there's a few that work. Wouxun are built durable compared to others . Buy 2 way radio excellent resource!

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  Рік тому

      Yeah, at the very least a decent tri-band HT antenna that will cover 1.25m may be the best bet. I hear the team over at Signal Stick may be working on one.

      In a pinch, a long telescopic whip that can extend to 54 inches (1.37m) is an option for 6m -- keep a tape measure handy.

    I've looked for quad band antennas. The current ones only cover three of these bands, three of the ones for the radio and 33-cm, or omit 220 MHz.

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  Рік тому

      That's what I've found as well. Oh well, it's a minor inconvenience. :)

      Don't you guys have to study radio theory !
      You can design and make your own antenna..
      The PA is so wide banded VSWR is not going to be an issue.

    • @phillipnelson6076
      @phillipnelson6076 Рік тому

      @snakezdewiggle6084 There are no problems building an antenna. The challenge is assuring it's resonant. A friend has noted that it would require a collapsible antenna where the length is variable for each frequency. The problem he noted is that not all frequencies are harmonics of other frequencies.
      This is similar to what we see on some HF frequencies where the length of the antenna radials vary in length. I have a chart for my portable antennas as to the recommended length for the radial and counterpoise.

    Hi there thank you very much for the review I am non sighted you said the menus are all spoken can you confirm this not only the menu number but what the menu is. I have never come across a radio that does this yes some voice a number but never what each menu is could you do a video of cycling through the menu with the speech on and changing power thank you very very much

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  Рік тому +1

      All menu items are spoken, but only when you select them. If you're simply scrolling through the menus, the radio does not verbally announce each option as it goes by. You have to select it first for it to read the menu option aloud.

    • @josephdeery4931
      @josephdeery4931 Рік тому +2

      Hi there thank you very much for getting back to me on this!!!! This is better as at least the menus are spoken when you select them, it is a great shame that they could not be voiced as you scroll past them in the menu. To put this in context can people imagine if you needed to select the menu before it would display on the screen what it was. A great step in the right direction. Even the discontinued Kenwood thd72 did not voice what the menu was only the number so you needed an external menu list. At least with this radio if you did not have any sighted help you could go in to each menu and write down what it was, and there you have your external menu list!!!!!! But again a huge step forward in access-ability!!!!! Than you very much for the review and for getting back to me!!!!

      Thank you very much just incase I do decide to buy one of these when you do enter in to the menu does the radio give the number for example 001 back light brightness so that you could write up a menu list as it would need to say the number so you could go in to a menu perhaps it is the wrong number as you said it does not say them as you are scrolling past but if it said the number then you could arrow 6 down or up to get to the menu you wanted quite allot to it!!!!! Thank you very much for your help!!!! Joe best 73's

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  Рік тому +1

      What I have experienced when using the voice announce feature, is that when in the menus, the menu title or option is only announced with voice when selected with the green button. When scrolling menu options using the channel knob or arrow buttons, nothing is spoken aloud as you scroll down the list.
      The global menu list is numbered 01-48, but when you go into the menu each time, it doesn't reset your selector back to 01. Instead, you pick up in the menus where you left off. So if you were on menu option 32 and go back to the VFO screen, but then go back into the menus, it will still have menu option 32 highlighted, as that was the last option you were on.
      The only time that a number is announced is when you're scrolling through channel numbers that are assigned to frequencies.
      73!

    Hello, it transmit on 6m?

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  Рік тому +4

      Yes it does! So far it seems to transmit at approximately 1.2-1.5 watts on 6m frequencies with the unit that I received. Other KG-Q10H radios may have better power output on 6m. For example, I saw a video from Ham Radio Crash Course that showed Josh was getting approximately 4 to 5 watts output on 6m. He was testing on "High" mode. I was testing on "Ultra High" so there seems to be a bit of discrepancy there. Also worth noting, the SWR meter I used was not rated for the 6m Frequencies so it was just to give a general idea. Hope that helps!

    Display layout and the weird PTT are deal breakers for me.

    • @hamshackhero
      @hamshackhero  Рік тому +1

      Yeah the PTT definitely takes some getting used to. If you aren't aware of it out of the gate, it can be confusing.
