  • What is WorkbenchCon? It is a gathering of woodworkers, CNC creators, and others in the woodworking arena, that gather together annually. This is where crafters and makers, both influencers and general hobbyists get together to exchange ideas and learn new practices.
You will get to meet those you have watched on UA-cam and meet vendors and suppliers.

I've been a "hobby" woodworker for over 30 years and have built a lot of things, including a lot of cabinets, projects for our church such as an altar, pulpit, baptismal font and even our own house. My background is varied from aviation to IT professional and lots of other things in between. I'm saying this not brag, but to show you where I'm coming from.
You are among the many makers that I follow including Andy Bird, Bourbon Moth, Izzy Swan, Blacktail Studio (the best epoxy crafter, in my opinion) and others.
After much research and having a technology background, the next logical step for me was CNC. I watched your channel and others to determine the best machine to buy. Not known for going halfway into anything, I bought a Longmill MK2 30X48 with Vectric vCrave Pro and all my bits from you. The customer service from all of you was terrific.
Now the bad part. I bought my machine over a year and a half ago and have not made my first cut. Right about the same time, my wife had a brain bleed, had 2 brain surgeries and was in the hospital for over 2 1/2 months (I was there too, of course) in San Antonio, Texas. We live in Florida. She has been in physical and speech therapy here in Florida until this week. I'm not complaining, life happens. She survived with no major problems except some speech problems.
So now I'm ready to delve into CNC at 77 (in 2 days). We'll see how it goes from here.

Ron:Sorry to hear of your wife’s health struggles. I am glad she is doing better! It’s is a journey that with your background I can see you enjoying. I have been doing it less than a year and one thing I like is everyday I learn something new! As side note, you can be doing the creative portion on your computer/laptop and still be close enough to support her when she needs you. One thing I have learned about the CNC/Woodworking community is there is always someone willing to help you out when you need it! Btw Go ‘Noles!
Garret and crew are top notch. I wish you and your wife well!

@@kevinrich4637Thanks for your support and concern. My wife is pretty much back to her normal self and doesn't require special care any more. Everyone has struggles or you're not living life. It's easy to say "poor me" and feel sorry for yourself. That's not us. We are much better off than others.
The technological part is not an issue. I have four computers that I use personally for dedicated purposes connected to server that's in a rack in my (climate controlled) attic. The house is hard-wired with CAT6 which I prefer due to speed and security. I do have wireless as well, that is mostly used by my wife for her laptop, her internet connected sewing machine and color laser printer/scanner/copier. She is a very talented quilter with a dedicated sewing room. She has more fabric than I have wood. Her best talent has been putting up with me for 56 years.
I was using the internet before Al Gore invented it. 😁 It was called ARPANET. There was no GUI interface and no Windows (3.1 was the current version then) direct connection unless you were using it as a dumb terminal. Unix systems were my area of expertise and in my opinion, still superior to Windows.
I have been working on vCarve Pro and bringing down that learning curve. It is fun to get results at the end. My CNC machine is operational, but as I said earlier, unused. Of course, putting into action and getting physical results is where it's at.

@@IDCWoodcraft on the fence about which cnc to start with for starters, but will be diving more into your content. Initial goals will be for inlays, engraving, and small trays.

I'm really impressed by the new Phillips screws. I've dropped so many screws over the years while installing them at awkward angles and I'd love a solution that works.

I am surprised that more young ppl aren’t getting into the CNC field. Many are doing 3D printing, but most of the resultant objects are weak, small, and not feasible for daily heavy use like the wood, plastic, composite, metal, etc. CNC projects can be.
