Sorry but ZL1 all aluminum 427 was rated at 425 but was closer to 550hp it was a legit drag mother from the factory it’s the only motor ever back then to beat a 426 hemi
I'm born, bred and bleed Chevrolet but for the 20 years I've been involved in drag racing there is no substitute for ss/ah Darts and Cudas. To me they are the kings of drag racing. I love tf and fc, tad and tafc and se and everything in between but these ss/ah cars are special. Heads up, balls out run what you brung in 9 seconds or less. Just empty your bank account and sell your kids and go racing lol. If I had a couple hundred grand to spare I'd definitely have a harry holton hemi in a 68 Cuda sitting in my garage next to my chevelle. I live in Modesto ca and was fortunate to have Harrys crew do all the head work, intake and dyno tuning on my current combination. I believe one of his cars still holds the national super stock et record
that!s good to hear.I have a 70 340 sitting in the garage that needs to be brought to life.I have had 4 340`s thru the years..my 69 dart 4spd ran 12.20 and spent a few minutes making a statey wonder where he was lol.I just couldn`t afford the ticket that sunday morning. The rumble from a well tuned 340 exhaust sounds as if to say "on tap"
1:01 Near lane...if you freeze playback both the last yellow and green lights are on at the same time and the car is lifting in the front. I wonder what the reaction time is when the lights are like that. Looks perfect.
Used to see these cars at the famous Lion's Dragstrip in Wilmington Ca. grew up watching threw the fence'until i got chased away but got to go and see the last drag in 1971 right before it closed missed those Jr. drag rails all nite long from my window just remember those loud cars motors all nite long racing till 5 am. mornings. week ends and 3 am. on weekdays...........
Chris Taylor Thanks Chris. Not putting up as much original content currently. Check out the link to my new venture, live broadcasts from D1TV. Also you can follow me on FB for updates and photos. 👍
They use high octane gas for this specific class. Apologies I haven't found the octane rating yet. Per NHRA rules, the fuel is supplied at the race track so it's higher than 93 octane.
these "hemi choot outs" are about 80% barracudas, 20% darts. does anyone know why? why no belvedere/satellite's/valiant, etc.? is there some rule it has to be a dart/barracuda?
Factory drag cars, in the late 60s these cars were built special for drag racing, with alumimin finders, acid dipped doors, and every mopar hipo part that could be had.
You forget the 64 and 65 the were fac race HEMIS to. I wish they would run them to. My boyfriend has a 64 Plymouth with a Ray Barton hemi in it but it is a 528cI and it has a crossram but no cage smalltire car it's not cut up it has a 4speed 809.8hp and 723tq best et 9.86 at 142mph but got kicked off cuz he went to fast cuz of no cage. But the cars in this video are sweet hemi power but the should run the 64 and 65s B body's are sweet cars. That ran 10s in 64 factory race cars and in 65 9.90s back then so they could run way faster now days
How much have they modified these dodge and Chrysler engines to allow them to get into the 8 second range, they have to be bored out 426s that are supercharged and cammed to the hilt. I was hoping to see some Super Stocks run, not some cars that have been modified to what used to be classed as A-Gas and B-Gas.The factory sponsored big blocks of the 1960s from Chevrolet, Chrysler and Ford are what I would like to see.
Outstanding filming, don't know hoooow many times I've watched this in the past couple years...Nothing like Chrysler Technology
Thanks Kevin. They actually tried to kick me out of this event. 16 hour drive almost for nothing.
I just fell back about 50 years to the real deal.
Nothing comes close to the legendary Hemi👌🏻

Nice to see 8 second powerhouses stay strong and straight on the track, what a great meet to be at!!!
love the Hemis.
I love this track used to live about a mile from it and was there every weekend. Bye the way great job on the R/T's. Hemi's rule
Built Not Bought, Mopar's are bad ass, period !
Hemi’s are awesome 👍🏼
That Dart body is one of my all-time favorites. Beautiful lines!
Love the early Cuda notchbacks - terribly underrated styling IMO.
I love Your videos, and since I`m in love with Hemi`s,it can`t be better than this :-)
Thanks for the VERY well produced vid, Rob.
-ByeRun
'68 340-S Barracuda
I like 340`s too...runnin muthas
Somewhat mildly worked, mine runs in the low 11s at over 118mph. It's easy enough to get 'em to run much harder.

Excellent video Love the A Body HEMI cars, big burnout and launch then screaming down the track :-)
I love SS/AA Hemi Darts!!!

Georgous rides
Love them hemis , but I'd love to get a ole L88 with the same gears, and mess with them, with me driving.. would be a blast
Motor on motor nothing beats a himi. Chevy and ford better thank the turbo/ nitrous gods for giving them a chance
Good race
A bodies! yup!
Hey there,
I am from Holland and we don't see much of these, just wanna ask if these are normally aspirated and what size motors are they?
Yes they are normal aspirated allowed 2 carbs
426 cubic inch Race Hemi, Chrysler Corporation made these cars.
Also just became a new Sub 💪
Is it v-8 hemi?
What's the fuel they use?
They use high octane gas for this specific class. Apologies I haven't found the octane rating yet. Per NHRA rules, the fuel is supplied at the race track so it's higher than 93 octane.
Same as airplane gas
whats a chootout?
"chootout" = shootout
Shudda', Woulda', Cudas!!!!!!!
The blue cuda jumps the light but he still gets smoked
440 will run with a himi. Maybe not a 2000hp plus himi but for the money a 440 will run right with these guys
these "hemi choot outs" are about 80% barracudas, 20% darts. does anyone know why? why no belvedere/satellite's/valiant, etc.? is there some rule it has to be a dart/barracuda?
ihateliberals how about areo dynamics, just a thought. Or cudas are just beautiful. IMHO
Factory drag cars, in the late 60s these cars were built special for drag racing, with alumimin finders, acid dipped doors, and every mopar hipo part that could be had.
This specific race is for factory Hemi "A" bodies which was only 1968 Barracuda fast backs and 1968 2dr Dart hard tops.

@@michaelblair6955 they didn't have aluminum fenders, and had Corning glass,no window regulators.
Why was it necessary to include "chootout" instead of shootout? Is this supposed to draw the ebonics crowd to drag racing?
Beech Bend is in Kentucky, right? Chootout? that's fucking stupid. Even for Louisiana....
I agree...perhaps the group that sponsored this event is liberal based and supports ...something other than education...

Try this one. www.ua-cam.com/video/C7HzF8hfrTE/v-deo.html
Are they allowed to get rid of the carb and go fuel injection? ... Or must they stick to vintage regulations?
+barath4545 old school carbs
I've been away from this stuff a long time. What is AH. And what are the "rules of superstock" now? thx
Cammed out lol. You don't "cam out" a boosted engine. You'd be hurting yourself more than you help yourself.
