It's so funny how Jon literally just need to be annoying so Basira would believe it was him lol and that Martin was literally like "dude we don't even know each other well"

man, people are being really harsh on jon in this episode. like, martin's totally valid for being frustrated by jon's lack of communication, but jon's clearly trying to figure out a plan on the fly at the beginning, and he can't talk to martin about it because trevor's already stalking them. after so many episodes of martin trying to catch up while jon had the zoomies, jon was dragging his feet behind martin in hopes that trevor would go after him instead of martin. the hunter/hunted fear dichotomy required him to repress his fear for martin's safety in order to keep him safe. all in all, jon did an admirable job navigating a tense, awful situation that they never should have been in and yet was necessary for finding basira, and as far as i'm concerned, martin's the only person allowed to give him any shit for it.

I love how this episode in particular, Jon doing a statement feels like he's ducking into the bushes to drop a deuce.

This episode is well set on my list of Top 5 villain Jon moments. Those times that he shows that the only reason we don't see him as evil is because of our familiarity to him. In Trevor's story Jon is a Magnificent Bastard of a villain, an unrepentant genius who gets exactly what he wants from the people around him (he doesn't know Jon's got an allergy to planning) and will unapologetically send the monsters who work for him to fight if his plots are interrupted. If this story were told by Trevor from the beginning then maybe we'd hate Jon too
God that would be so interesting. Trevor has plenty a story to tell.

@@molol44 considering he was delighted some post about him got many ‘likes’ when he didn’t even know what that meant; he must’ve had a pure heart at some point. I think he still kept it to a certain extent if becoming a father to Julia was anything to go by…

This partially proves my point that the Hunt and Corruption are similar in a sense.
You can see John becoming more and more Avatar-like as the episodes go on. He didn't want Trevor to go for Martin but wasn't phased when he did and offered no comfort for Martin afterwards, nor did he express any relief or happiness at seeing Basira as he might once have. More and more it feels like Jon is going through the motions of being Jonathan Sims when really, he his not that man anymore. He's The Archivist/The Archive. Honestly to me it almost feels like most of the Jon we knew died when he opened the door for the powers, and only the base of his personality is left underneath his new power and his knowledge.... I really hope I'm just pulling all this out of my arse though

Trevor sounded so sad losing Julia, I know from his perspective, Jon would be the bad one. I loved Julia and Trevor being friends but the way they used Gerry... :(
Enh, there was no reason to target Jon, from their perspective. They were completely gone, mentally, when they met Jon. The fanaticism of the righteous zealot has no room for the innocent or toleration of the differently minded. In this world, small monsters are offered up as bait to lure people to the Hunt. Once they're in, they look for those Not Right and that means anybody, not just little monsters. Because the big monsters affect EVERYBODY, anybody could be a thrall, so everybody is The Enemy unless they're in your pack.
Trevor grieving Julia dying first makes me so incredibly upset. My found family pack are gone I'm so sad.
Thinking about that time when Julia said "he's not my dad" and Jon basically responded "she doesn't believe that"
I accidentally skipped this episode and honestly thought Trevor was killed offscreen
I genuinely feel really bad for Trevor and Julia. We saw how much Daisy changed after she was freed from the hunt- she went from my least favorite to my 2nd favorite assistant. I wish we could have seen more of them before they were corrupted :(

Jon in this episode was really amazing, like keeping himself back to protect Martin, calm and colected to find Basira. And later a little shit who enjoys poking the goat once in a while.

This podcast story has brought me so much joy, It hits all my happy places and im just so thankful it can continue. The actors are incredible, the story is amazing, the countless times I've been disturbed just has me so happy. Thank you for this ^^
These guys really have to solve their communication problems eventually. Cute relationship and all, but it's 90% bickering because one or the other is always holding something back.
to be fair up until now they've been pretty good about it, I think jon was hiding his plan from martin because it wouldn't have worked if martin knew. I think he was dragging behind because he wanted trevor to grab him instead of martin and he didn't want martin trying to mess that up. though it ended up not working anyway.

Martin trying to spur Jon on in the beginning, "it's for the best", brings to mind the spider's puppet show, wanting him to accept the convenience of his powers despite each use making it harder for him to stay grounded
God! I can not even imagine how the cast of this show felt doing THIS season, during a literal PANDEMIC. I mean it almost ranks up there with Supernatural announcing it's last season THEN the pandemic happens, like them quitting led to the end times.

Are we gonna talk about how Jon tried to use Trevor's logic to get attacked instead of Martin? Trevor says that it should have been him, that he is slow (and old), and Jon was the one slowing down in the beginning.
I’ve been listening to these on my morning shifts. Just full 3 hours of alone time in the morning spent with these episodes to keep me company. It’s been such a wild journey and while I’m sad to know it’s the last season, I’m so glad I was recommended it and am so excited to see it through to its end

This episode _destroyed_ me when Trevor revealed Julia was dead. Against all odds I have never hated them; they were some of my favorite characters. People say "but Gerry :(" but that's because we as the audience know better about this book and the people stuck inside. Trevor and Julie were truly "heroes of another story" characters, going around hunting down avatars that maliciously causing harm. In their perspective, what reason do Gerry had to not help them? He had the knowledge, and he's a book. In their mind he's not a person and if we have followed the story in their pov we would have thought so too. Does this make what they did right? Fuck no of course not. But they are not cruel like so many make them to be. Anyway this is getting long and this episode is awhile ago I doubt anyone would read this 😐👍
Just more newbies! I see what you're saying. But even in their own story, they'd be portrayed as monsters hunting monsters. The book would eventually lie or betray them, and that'd be entirely their own fault.
@krishadyn5211 Most of the main cast are no longer "humans" either so like. Even as "monsters against monsters" they'll still be heroes if, a big if, the story has always been about them. What the book could potentially do to them is probably something they already considered; even back when they still have Gerry they were cautious with him and refused to interact with him more than they strictly must.
I did it I caught up on UA-cam it only took a couple months now i need to listen to the rest on amazon prime but im definitely coming back to read the comment once they release the newer episodes are on youtube😊

Hahaha Martin's hypocrisy is sympathetic for me. Here, he was annoying in pestering Jon for the plan WHILE THEY WERE BEING FOLLOWED AND LISTENED TO, but Jon could have talked to him about his plan before they trudged through the domain. And I'm confused why Trevor could kill Martin when nobody could affect him before.
