Frontier OS31 Sawmill Trailer Assembly and Pulling Tips

- In this episode I am covering the Frontier OS31 (and OS27) Sawmill Trailer package install and setup. In addition, I'll cover how to get it plated (in Michigan) and some pulling tips. As an added note, when wiring the trailer lights you WILL need to extend the ground (white) wire to the frame (I chose the silver rails) and the LED lights white wire also to the frame. Otherwise, you will be fighting to get the lights to work.
UPDATE: I was able to pull this mill over 300 miles to my off grid milling location with no issues. I strapped down the water tank, locked the mill over the axle with bolts and nylock nuts, then strapped the mill with ratchet straps pulling toward the front and another toward the back. Didn't even wiggle loose, although I checked it several times. Top speed? I pulled it up to 70 with not issues but with michigan roads (even the highways) I kept it at about 65. Oh, as a precaution, I did buy a spare tire and brought a 4-way to change things out if needed (because we all know, if you don't have a spare - you'll need it!).

Hey thanks for posting this video. I'm in the process of building my OS27 with the same trailer package. It arrived in Dec 2023 and just now getting to it now that the weather is turning hear in NE PA. I read a lot of how vague the instructions were but didn't think it would be so vague until I started to build it LOL. I have the frame assembled and now working on the trailer. Wish me luck lol. Nice! I've worked on my trailer little by little.. and thanks to this video I was able to square it up with the tracks and bunks! Another thing to pick on about the instructions, it didn't specify how to mount the axel smh. Of course there are U-bolts, plates and whatnot but boy they could have illustrated it or something. I should be done with it tomorrow. Not looking forward to mounting the carriage on it lol. Thankfully I have a tractor :) but I've been doing this solo with some help from my wife. Congrats Larry! It's been really good to me, hope you love it as much as I do! Oh, little tip that burned me twice. When you finish with cut, turn off the machine and make sure the blade doesn't catch on the end of the log or something as it's being pulled back to the start position (happened twice to me - even though my wife KEEPS telling me lol). If I am not careful returning to the start position, the blade pops off and then I have a swap it out as it gets dull from flailing about.
The instructions that come with this kit are horrible you made it look easy thanks for the video

Thanks for the tips! Helped me put mine together. I'd recommend purchasing Magnetic trailer lights. They are like $20 on Amazon and you just pop them on and off when traveling. So much less work than wiring and you can keep them out of the elements to last forever. I just drop them on the fenders, since I only have the fender on when moving.

I ran my wires through one of the side rails and stuffed the extra length inside the rail. even after adding an extension, there is enough slack to add another extension although the book says you can tow with only one extension on it.
Excellent idea! I haven't pulled it with the extension but I'm thinking about trying it out.
What is the highest speed you’re comfortable with pulling it on a highway? You said 60 mph in your video. Have you pushed higher since then?
I've pulled it up to 70-72 on the highway and it was stable. I wrapped a strap around the water tank and two opposing straps on the saw head after securing it with bolts on each side. I ended up making a nylon washer with an angle and added that to the bolt that secures the saw head to the rail. Overall, it pulled very nice.

I put one on the inside the other on the outside. Only thing that looked sort of right lol.
they dont fit on the inside with the spring. I actually put one on the inside and one outside since I used locking nuts they cannot slide back and forth and I have pulled it down the road

I had a booklet with all the instructions in it (when I bought the mill). It included the trailer instructions as well.
I put the trailer extension on mine ill let you
I have the extension to cut 16' logs but the trailer extension took so long, I cancelled it. I may revisit that purchase to add the extension but meanwhile, I use the standard length with the option to add for longer logs. Thanks for watching!
