    In my opinion, I think this solo should have won. Yes, Bryce does have incredible chops and does and excellent job demonstrating that, but his solo is just like all other snare solos out there, a bunch of crazy stuff and then a big rim shot. This guy demonstrated his creative abilities as a snare player, along with demonstrating excellent chops and technique. I could actually remember some of the stuff in this solo after he played it. Very well done.

      100% agree. SCV doesnt teach technique which bothers me. Nice to see some technique aside with some creativity.

      @isaacpham499 5 років тому +17

      James P. Confident rennick, along with most of the SCV staff care more about sound quality than they do technique.

      @@isaacpham499 you know most of the grips snare players have will destroy their hands and wrist because they barely use their fingers. I think they should teach them technique at the beginning and its bullshit how they say they focus more on musicality all you need to do is teach the line the grip for a day and let them get used to it. It's not that hard to get used to a new grip and of it is for them then wow

    • @michaelbenoit8895
      @michaelbenoit8895 4 роки тому +49

      Gabriel {BYOS} I can guarantee you Paul Rennick and his staff teach technique. I can also guarantee you their grip won’t “destroy their hands,” especially given that the way Paul’s groups drum relies on the resonance of the stick, constant motion, and other incredibly conscious drumming fundamentals that ensure relaxation and minimal strain from the players. If anyone is destroying their hands, see the obnoxiously sticky and harsh approach nearly every other group plays, especially at the low end. If you want to see Paul talk about technique, there are videos of him demonstrating the approach and the thought process behind it.
      To say Paul doesn’t teach technique is almost as erroneous as claiming their approach harms the players.
      I’ve heard many ridiculous claims about Paul’s approach, but none as outrageous as the players being harmed by the technique.

      I personally think this should’ve been a tie between Bryce and Ryan, but I personally like seeing Chops. I’ve noticed people who play theses really tasty/creative solos never make the top 5 so displaying your chops is what you have to do. I wish we could do both honestly

    While Bryce's solo was probably more technically challenging, this one is so much more enjoyable from a viewer's standpoint. I enjoy watching Bryce's solo in that I can appreciate the difficulty and technical nuance of his solo, but not so much because I like the way it sounds. I enjoy watching this one because I like the writing and sounds being produced, and it just flows a little better in my mind.
