- My favourite Christmas Hymn is 'O Holy Night'. Having never heard it in any other language I was blown away by Sissel's version when I heard it. No surprise that this is now my favourite interpretation of the Hymn.
Sissel är Norges röst, Jussi är Sveriges röst.. Älskar Vårt norden, sommar, vinter, höst som vår är norden vackert och härligt..
Brödrafolk till sista blodsdroppen.
Sissel is the best female singer on Mother Earth and Jussi Björling the best male... both versions are the best ever.... grateful to listen to it....
I was listening to a big-name pop singer star doing a cover of this noble song. That star is much more famous than Sissel and is American and an industry and I stuck out the performance until the end yet found I was in desperate need of hearing Sissel sing it. I like different takes and interpretations of old standards. I like jazzed up classics even if only for a change. But when a great song is treated like a lavatory towel, then I thank God that there are the preservationists like Sissel who serve it up simple and honestly letting the song be itself and respecting it with a great voice.
Who was the pop star in specific I might ask?
would that be the one of a certain bleached blonde haired oral gymnastic performer pulling faces and generally being horrendous while putting our eardrums through torture?
P.S. Loveliest smile in all music.
The world would begin to transform, when a person would abandon doing a cover for a pop star because of listening Sissel in the process.
I'd love to see Sissel record "O Holy Night" again, this time in English.
Only 1K likes? She deserve 5 million likes, at least! I personally think she sing the best version of this song. Best ever!
This performance always makes me cry. Her voice is just so beautiful. What a gift.
This is a blend of the most beautiful song in the world, sung by the most beautiful voice in the world. A performance for the ages.
What a unique and mesmerizing Voice -- What an OVERWHELMING Talent - What a fantastic and ETHEREAL performance !! Her voice just sparkles in its crystal clear, bell-like quality.
Sissel appears here on stage like a Viking Princess of old - radiating Grace, Beauty, Charm and Charisma. Especially near the end (time 3:00 on), she looks like a much-beloved queen blessing her adoring subjects -- which, probably, isn't too far from reality !! 🥰🥰🥰
The modesty and humility that she showed forth during this entire concert was VERY impressive, considering her OVERWHELMING talent !!
Truly this is one reason why she is so loved by her audience and blessed by God. It is a RARE quality today, especially in the entertainment industry !!
Difficult to imagine a more beautiful rendition. The power, grace, effortlessness, elegance and pure artistry are incomparable. I got chills from the first seconds.
This lady's talent exceeds my ability to express how much I love to listen and watch her sing!!!
👍
I never get tired of listening to this. Sissel, you're the best!
This version by Sissel gives my goosebumps, goosebumps! ❤️
Hits it at 3:46 perfectly.
she sings like an angel. I could listen to her for hours.
I DO listen to her for hours. Absolutely. She sings so beautifully and effortlessly.
I have never heard this voice before, but I am blown away - and with my favorite Christmas song.
A voice touched by God.
absolutely exquisite. Tears running down my cheeks.
This is the voice of Norway, the one we're so proud of! Give it up for Sissel! She's the best!
+Emmanuel Paris Thanks a lot! I wish you a good year!
+Svein Grimstad Well she's singing the song in swedish though and not in Norway, don't know why but i guess it might means we stole her. xD But she has a strong and beautiful voice either way
I think the swedish version is the best and never better than when Sissel sings it. Josh Groban sing it very good to. Here's a short history of the song: "O Holy Night" (French: Cantique de Noël) is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem "Minuit, chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians) by a wine merchant and poet, Placide Cappeau (1808-1877).
This song was written in France in 1947. "Minuit, chrétiens" is originale title I just found out. I'de always loved this song, it inspired me to write my own christmas story long ago. The song has a uniqe and wonderful mood. God bless France for this song, a great gift to the world! Be prod Emmanuel Paris.
1847 composed by Adolphe Adam, lyric Placide Cappeau.
She has a heart warming smile. When Sissel smiles, you want to smile also.
What a Lady. God Bless
Sissel is like an angel passing through your room. Her voice is a gift from God.
AngelVoiceFromHeaven 😊😊😙
I am an athiest, but she really does have a devine voice its the most beautiful I've ever heard 😍🧔🇬🇧
@@philipparogers5613 i agree with you 🥰
This vocal magician has given us heaven on earth.
I've fortunately been listening to her for over 20 years now.. and all through those years it never ceases to amaze me how clear her voice is along with her tremendous range and smiles. no other singer on this planet can match her in my humble opinion. I like many singers (mostly female) that sing their songs better than any other arrangement. but overall Sissel is tops as she sings so very many songs good or better than just about everybody else. this is one of those but my favorite is "You'll Never Walk Alone" (here on UA-cam as well).
Exactly. Clarity, strength, with no embellishments. Pure, simple, talent.
When Sissel sings, angels weep;...and so do I.
You know it...
only 15 likes so far lol. Did that choke you up?
Simply the greatest voice of our time
Could listen to her all night long!
Probably the greatest female voice ever recorded
which I've done many times...
Helt fantastiskt! En av de bästa versioner jag hört. Totally amazing!!
Wow, she hit a grand slam right here!
Beautiful, this brings tears to my eyes.
An angel from Heaven - sent to sing for us mortals. Thank you Sissel!
Fantastisk Sissel. Tusen takk for at du deler din flotte gave med oss. En gave det må være høyere makter som har gitt deg. En engels stemme har du.
Beautiful. Perfection. Flawless. A heavenly voice in any language Thanks.
This rendition could melt an iceberg.
Sissel is currently responsible for melting Greenland, the ice caps on both poles and glaciers worldwide.
Tack Sissel du är fantastisk.
Now I really got into the Christmas spirit 🎄I got goosebumps from the first note. ❤️
Absolute best version
Bellissima voce! Sissel canta col cuore e arriva direttamente all'anima di chi ascolta.
Grazie Sissel....!
Crystal clear voice. A pleasure to listen to.
The most beautiful voice on planet earth !
When Sissel start sing I stop breathing, listen with mouth open wide. Suddenly my body gasp and sigh for air, bring me back to this world.
sissel proves there is a God, and he sent us an angel, unbelievable
My favorite CD is Sissel's "Glade Jul", which I enjoy every year at Christmas time. I never get tired of listening to her beautiful voice singing Christmas hymns from my childhood.
I bought in on LP - still have it!! And listen to it.. :D
I think I'm in heaven, this is the greatest voice I have ever heard
I first heard her voice back in the late 1980s when a Norwegian friend gave me a tape of her singing Christmas songs. Beautiful then and no less so now.
The very best I have heard, just love her and her beautiful voice
Have u heard jussi bjorling sing o holy night
Helt fantastiskt! Sissel är en värlsstjärna!
Stil listening this in December 2019
Same. In amazement.
Metoo
I'm listening this in December 2020.
Anything Sissel does is my favorite.
My real favourite Hymn as well. And Sissel is worth of thanking and blessing for this.
I Hear the Angels voices every time Sissel sings. She is amazing.
We love this love from Denmark ❤️
How effortlessly she produces those high notes!
Emer Barry is a Soprano that can get up there much like Sissel however Sissel has her on overall range because Sissel can hit the low notes too. this is especially evident in her humming in "Titanic". not withstanding beautiful version as well
She has been recorded singing a tone above high C
What a fabulous version of this beautiful song. This and Jussi Bjorling's version are magical. Love them both.
Those two are my go-to versions every year. Don't bother much with others.
One can see how she really loves to sing this song.
Sissel is a God´s gift and I thank Him every day for this grace. God bless you, Sissel!!
My opinion.....this version is the absolute best version / rendition...the musical arrangement....and the voice of Sissel
There is only one version as good as this and that is the legendary version by Jussi Bjørling.
Jussi any day for me, though this is not bad.
I first heard her singing thirty years ago when I worked in Norway (wonderful country) . She was brilliant even then. Her voice is so pure.
I have heard only two people sing this song as it should be sung. One is the great Jussi Bjørling and the other is the beautiful Sissel.
Faultless, stunning
The voice of Norway, like Jussi is the voice of Sweden.
Plain beautifull!
When I was a teen, 25 years ago I was in love with Sissel, I dreamt of her night and days. Suddenly she cut her hair, painted it red and dated danish Eddie Skoller. I still loved her indeed and her music, but I had to face she wouldn't be the love of my life :-) Well, actually she is, but at the distance. She looked at me once as I walked by her on the street in Oslo. Ohh magic moment!!
LMAO! Yes! I really thought she lost it when she married that ugly fellow. But thats life. You cant have them all! :-D
As is Kathleen Jenkyns to the UK.
That look and smile at 1.23 is just for me make me feel all warm inside pure gorgeousness 😍❤️
Phillippa, join the Queue, I thought that was
for me 😂
Such clear notes , and she is beautiful too.
the greatest prayer song by its greatest singer.
She sounds fantastic even when I can't understand a word of it and that shows real talent.
If this is a voice one hears only once in a life time then I have more lives than an alley full of cats because I sometimes listen to her several times a day. I have several Sissel favorites, including this one. She is in total control of her art here, pleasant to watch, wonderful to hear. I have started collecting her CDs and DVDs and have purchased copies for friends and family. I wish that the producers who work with her would reissue some of her early recordings. I don't mind buying them used from third-party vendors if that is the only way that I can get them, but it seems only right that she profit from her work.
What a heavenly performance of this wonderful Christmas song. I had never heard of this singer, but the first thing that struck me was that Sissel is so very much in control of her voice, which is why she creates a sound which is powerful, natural and full of expression.
Some singer! Some voice!
Thank you for sharing the sound of your fantastic voice with the world:-).
I hope it will be heard all over the globe..
Amazing how one person who is a SINGER instead of a twerking performer can mesmerize an audience! Huge thumbs up!
she IS absolutely amazing. just a beautiful voice AND a beautiful person as well...
👍
Words are wholly inadequate to even try to describe this voice.
it doesn't get any better than this.
WoW
Just DEVINE
VOICE OF AN ANGEL
😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
Det är verkligen en ynnest att varje jul kunna höra denna vackra sång sjungas av två så begåvade sångare som Jussi och Sissel. Jag tror svenskar kommer känna likadant om hundra år.
God Jul!
You hear this when you enter heaven
Love this song. Thanks to Skam
Greetings from 🇰🇿
The most Beutifull song of all songs, and she sings like nobody else can sing. Thank you Sissel Kyrkebo!
What about Swedens jussi bjorling
oh Sissel my favorite song and one of my favorite renditions
I need this many times over the year. All the very best to Sissel.
Så vackert hon sjunger och så vacker hon år.
That is the prettiest vioce I have ever heard❤
Yes I think its the tone of her voice. she's absolutely unreal. she has tremendous range and clarity as well. but so does a few other singers. however there's something extra special about Sissel that no one else seems to quite reach. she makes me cry even though other great singers sing the identical song. but they do NOT make me cry. she is also ALWAYS smiling. sure some smile a little.. but she smiles a LOT! During my lifetime (and I've been around for 77 years now) I've not heard another female artist that matches her.
Haha, welcome to the club.
A lovely song a lovely rendition....
have been lucky enough to have seen sissel twice live , its amazing to hear her sing this live
Back in 1987 I was given a tape of Sissel singing this and other Christmas songs - beautiful. I keep a tape player for this.
I'm drawn to listen to a Christmas song even if it's 5 months away. It's because of Sissel's angelic voice. If she could only drive away the virus with this beautiful song, then it would be a merry Christmas indeed!
Simply beautiful, for a person to have so much talent and beauty, is amazing. Blessed
at 1:37 you know she will bring you to tears before all is said and done
I love all of Sissel's Christmas songs. They are simply beautiful!!!
Effortless and beautifull!
It's all so effortless and beautiful!
Simplemente, extraordinaria!!!!!!. Linda voz, bella mujer
Thanks for posting Sissel's wonderful version of this song! What could be more beautiful than this? I can think of only one thing: Sissel's own recording of the song from 1987. At the age of 18, her voice was not as developed as today, but perhaps even more angelical and pure. In the version featured here, she sings in the key of C, while the 1987-version is in the key of Eb! Still just as easy she manages to bring her heavenly voice up to the highest note, a high Bb! Truely amazing!
You hear this as you enter heaven.
I hope :)
After an incredibly intense presentation of Sissel, there´s no any other Christmas songs artists for me. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all.
No matter what kind of music you favor, there is no denying the sheer talent of Norway's Sissel Kyrkjebø! Here is "O Holy Night" in Norwegian. #merrychristmas
Hun synger på svensk din nisse! :)
Hun synger jo bare helt himmelsk😀Hun har en gave i fra Gud amen amen amen😀❤️👌🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
wat 'n super stem......klasse....genieten ...genieten ...genieten ...
Heavenly voice like an angel.....regards from Lapland
If this song doesnt deserve a standing ovation for at least 10 minutes,
I dont know what does.
DUST!
Hej Sissel K, du är expert på att sjunga poesi för världen. Tack kära du.
Sissel, the only artist who ever managed to move me to tears...
Wow, jag har aldrig gillat julsånger, men detta..!!
I thought our Carrie Underwood set the bar for this song - had never heard Sissel and had tears before it was half done. Wow, just wow.
Ya, I'm a big C.U. fan, but she is no match for Sissel.
BEAUTIFULLY DONE! Merry Christmas to all of you in Norway..my home!Love from Florida🇺🇸🌴🌞🎄🎅🎁🎊🎉❤👏
vilken underbar röst världsklass !!!
A glorious voice and the hymn is sung with such feeling and conviction. Beautiful.
