That's why I prefer a future where there is a combination of wind, solar, nuclear and geothermal energy.
Uranium is limited but with solar for instance, we have another five billion years of sunlight left.

The future looks great if a combination of energy resources are used, but unfortunately, it has never been about what is good for human flourishing but all about what is good for corporate profit. Corporate greed has gone past the point of no return, and climate change has been usurped as an ideology to extract as much profit as possible in the short term at the expense of long term repercussions.
Technology wise, nuclear energy has now advanced way past the earlier high risks over waste management, but it does not create even close to as much profit generation as new green energy, so it is hardly ever considered as feasible alternatives to fossil energy when all existing research and longitudinal evidence points to its long term sustainability. Technology wise, green energy is still infantile in development and realistically cannot even come close to neutral total carbon footprint no matter how they try to spin it. Every energy harvesting infrastructure has short replacement life cycles, and perhaps intentionally so for recurring profit, resulting in even more carbon waste.
At this moment in history, there is no country who is not beholden to corporate money and able to make independent decision that are for the good of their citizens.
If Solar farms are even half as efficient as touted, surely there would be many more cities powered by solar roofings? Max solar efficiency is possible only on clear unclouded direct sun exposure, and in most places, max efficiency is rarely possible, especially at air polluted cities. Even at max efficiency, solar technology is still not efficient enough for long term sustainability. The sums just do not add up.
Fossil energy has also not stagnated in technology advancement. New diesel engines are so much more efficient and cleaner but the media would never report that. Likewise for Hydrogen engines. Why develop lasting technologies that are close to free when you can sell at jacked up profits, multiple times for things that needs constant replacement? That's how billionaires at Microsoft, Apple, Monsanto, Pfizer etc... make their money.
As much as you and I wish for a better future of mutual beneficial collaborations, it may only happen if the self seeking corporate giants are dismantled by some unforeseen scenarios.
