Checked out the pricing for the cladding. About £22 for a 4m length of 150cm width. My last benches lasted 7 years before rot set in properly a nd that was using reclaimed bed slats! I agree we need to consider the alternatives and it is good to see you getting this idea out. I have a load of fireplace lava rocks that i am doing the same sort of thing with for more root on rock projects this year :)

It is more money, but I’ve probably lost you 20 years and you only maintenance you’ll ever have to do is jet washing it🤷‍♂️
