This is probably the most informative Hsing Yi information I have ever seen in such a short amount of time. This will definitly change my focus in trainging. Thanks so much for sharing!

Oh now we are getting into some really great martial art!
This is why I'm glad I took your class. Because not only teach Wing Chun, you also teach yi chuan ..xing -I too.
I was told when learned Wing Chun back in the 1980s/1990s nyc chinatown "you will never see another Wing Chun class like this" now I know why. Because he was a Wing chun..yichuan..and goju karate master...he mixed it up off a Wing Chun base.
So now when I see you breaking g down these moves..I see where it all came from. Interesting.. thank you Sifu.

I liked your whole breakdown of energetics and body structure, very helpful

I love the way sifu Chan says something profound in a throwaway line. He "just" mentioned how to do hsing yi standing. It can take years to get a teacher to explain this. Don't ask how I know.

    • @misterlau5246
      @misterlau5246 Рік тому +2

You baited the line and threw it in the water, you spread the net, and then you tell us you just know it, why?
This style I have never practiced it neither have met ppl who did.
There are some good teachers out there. Adam is good at explaining, but obviously it has to be trained. Not sure if you are like me and I didn't want to learn my dad's (+) family "style" and that's cause I didn't feel like he wanted to teach me, so I got to wing chun cause sifu was a merrier man than my dad 😬😒

Many thanks for this beautiful demonstration of mechanics. this vertical opening spiral is also present in hung ga. I know it variously as tiger climbs mountain or an earth casting punch. you can see it repeated twice on the clip "Kung fu platform - Hung Gar Kung Fu - Gung Gee Fook Fu Kuen" beginning 1 minute 36 seconds in. it is not expressed nearly as clearly or cleanly as demonstrated above. but it its there. the lead hand spirals up, out, and forward, and the back hand spiralling down, out, and back.

Master Chen, would you consider slow motion footage? Sometimes it's just too fast to see IMHO. I like the insights you offer now that I am used to your blog. I do Wang Shu Jin (M.Smith) style Hsing I near S.F. The punch to the qua is so valid.

Wang Xiang Zhai (founder of Yiquan, a Xingyi derived art) said: 不求形骸似,但求神意足 Do not chase after similar looking form and structure ( as your teacher), but aim for maximum imagination and intent (when practicing).
    Intent is everything.

Coming from a Tai Chi background I really appreciate this. My primary approach is rollback but the splitting fist of Hsing Yi helps me understand my response afterwards.

agree totally I learnt a family style of combat Yi Quan meaning no flowery stuff just fighting and power principles and application then we learnt the Hsing I five element s linking form. This was introduced at the 2nd degree instructor level to enhance the principles previously learned. Most people i meet that have learned other forms of Martial Arts are surprised by the foot work and power generation. Kick boxers have no idea what just happened.

If you can find a teacher that can teach you the agile stepping method it’s great. It can cover great distances very rapidly and deliver severe shocking power at any point along the advance or retreat. It can also turn with explosive rapidity. The stepping method is also needed to insert the low kicks, which are extremely effective.

So focus on the energetics, but how? And this movement looks similar to lop and it's forward circle, how about comparing and contrasting these two movements and energetics? Instead we're left guessing....

I'm not a Wing Chun guy, but if you amplify the art(Kinda turning the art into a giant in all aspects), it kinda turns into Hsing Yi Quan... In my humble perception... No offence to the Wing Chun purists though...🙏
