I KNEW IT he was screaming through this whole scene aside from very few lyrics matched to Cop Killer. I always interpreted it as John was Charls conscious or something screaming at him while he faces the consequences of his inaction. The screaming really adds to it, like an internal torture of the soul.

This is incredible dude, greatest sketch ever made ever written. I’ve seen Sam talk about how adult swim fucked up the original audio recordings, and they had to change it, so thank you for posting John’s original performance.
@@indybingyi Have you seen the show? They had this footage in it, but lost the audio. It would have been mixed into the music video with reverb and compression, and it would have sounded amazing.
@@drownthepoor I distinctly remember the original airing when I saw it the first time having all this. Only people who may have recorded the live broadcast would have it.
@@indybingyiyes, and playing the guitar is literally just plucking strings, and playing the drums is literally just hitting a surface with a stick, your comment is meaningless.
Felt chills going down my spine watching this, have been wanting to see this footage ever since Sam mentioned it in the PKA interview and it feels surreal watching it now that it’s finally here. John is the man.
Even with the change in song in the actual airing of this sketch, when I caught it on original premiere, it knocked me on my ass. The somber and cathartic nature underlying the comedy; it was unlike anything ever produced on TV at the time. It straddled that line of art without trying to obnoxiously "be art." Incredible to see any BTS stuff from it.
Yeah, and so many of us saw it and knew what it was. It was total edgelord Sh!tposting as a comedy sketch show, but it was made by a bunch of dudes who were trying to give it their absolute best shot. I wish there was an archive of all the work they've done prior to World Peace. The Thanks Computer stuff is some of my favorites. Even then they were doing really funny stuff, and they had decent audio/video production, but with World Peace they had access to a real production crew. They could have just done what had gotten them to that point, but they made it so much more. Even the interlude/loading-screens are brilliantly done and drenched in little subversive symbology & messaging. SNL back in the day was funny, but it also had that counterculture bite to it in that sarcastic social commentary. World Peace did that with it's own style. Not gonna lie, season 2 has almost impossibly high expectations. But I think they have that same drive to pull it off again.
What a deep and painful sketch to end the episode. John Maus really adapted the song to the sketch in his heartfelt yells, it really matches charls' thrashing on the bed and the meaning of the whole skit.
What's sad is that you can hear mostly just the low end in this clip because it's an iphone video but if you listen really closely it still sounds a whole lot different. I couldn't really imagine what the microphone captured until I really focused on the upper frequencies of his voice that you can vaguely hear, it sounds crazy
I was surprised when I listened to his actual records because it actually reminded me of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. I didn't realize John's stuff had a bit of that lo-fi retro-nu wave going on.
@@drownthepoor John was in his live band in the 2000s and also played on some of the songs like "Loverboy" and "Ghosts" If you search on UA-cam for old Ariel Pink live performances you might see John along with R Stevie. There is one particular performance where John starts sperging out and Ariel has to be like "settle down Beavis" I love it.
John Maus has helped me through so much. He expanded my horizons. I was going to kill myself, but John's music saved me. John is beyond human, and most importantly a visionary that saves lives.
Hey Moon isn't as obvious, it takes a bit of thought/experience to appreciate (challenging). I understand most Americans need everything spelt our for them though. Not denying the original artistic vision, but you made something good unironically, into a complete work of art.
Walk by the local basketball court, and instead of yelling "I'm the next Lebron James", Insert the name of a mass shooter then do the basketball shooting hand Gesture and say swoosh. "What up bois, I'm the next Dylan Roof, Swoosh"
You just like the song better. And it's a good song. But it's a Molly Nilsson song that she wrote and John covered and sings back up on John's version. However, she disavowed MDE after they got cancelled because her music was used on the show, John didn't disavow because he's based and has principles. So that said, it's best the original version of the show is restored.

Is this the part where I pretend this is “beautiful” and thought provoking? It’s a guy screaming into a mic like a lunatic.
Look into what lunacy actually is and means
no you’d probably go watch the sketch to actually think something about it, this is just behind the scenes footage from one part of the sketch.
