Thank you for asking for people's input. I had the privilege of being invited to a sweat lodge ceremony. It was my first and although I wimped out I stayed for the entire ceremony, fetching the hot rocks from the fire so that the ones who could stand the heat could go through the whole ceremony uninterrupted. I consider it a great honor to have been invited and allowed to have been a part of things that day. It is something I will always hold in my heart and take with me. Thank you my relatives
The last time I was at a Sacred fire, all of the women brought their drums and sang together. Then we all made tobacco ties and said our own prayers and put tobacco and cedar in the fire. At the end we all brought food to share, and we made sure to fill a plate and leave it for our ancestors while we ate.
Hi I’m trying to learn about how to leave offerings to my ancestors, what do you do with the plate after you offer it? Do you give it to someone who needs food or reserve it for only them? Just wondering
Today i go to my Aunties Sacred fire. She was the matriarch in our family and our Reserves councillor and it hurts so much to know shes gone on to the spirit world. We also found out an hr ago that my uncle also died. Plz pray our family and community and us healing and love to make it through this. 🙏❤🦅
Hi Sarah, I am very sorry to hear that you've had such great losses in such a short time period. You for sure have our prayers! Sema down, prayers up to you, your family your aunty and uncle and your community! From all of us here at Tribal Trade co, you have our sincerest condolences.
As a firekeeper, I was charged with all of the above, what she said, but also, to not allow dogs near the fire, and to enforce, 'No Cussing '. Firekeepers remain in a state of prayer while tending the fire. One other use that was left out, is Drumkeepers warm there drums by the fire, and say their prayers before playing.
I haven't been to a traditional Native American type sacred fire before, but did attend a fire puja once. I know, totally different but it was so much fun to just gather with my community, participate in a ritual and learn new traditions of another culture. Being open minded should be standard in life, just as being kind and considerate. It was still a most enjoyable and spiritual experience, with drums, incense and we listened to the monks chant. Very moving experience.
Hi I've recently been to Medicine festival in the UK and was lucky enough to attend many sacred fires with the Huni Kuin people it was amazing . There was a beautiful smell coming from the fire might you know what it was please ?
That is very good question. Unfortunately I am not familiar with that culture. You could try contacting the event organizer and they will probably be able to send you in the right direction. Good luck. :)
I have a sacred fire for my community once a year this the 4thvyear before me was my grandfather....I'm continuing the teachings......I use flint when I start my fires and tobacco for offering when starting.....

I am not sure this would be called a sacred fire but in the couple of month I had my mother called to the spirit world and days after she was buried my uncle joined her cause I am Coast Salish we did a burning of food and cloths for them in the spirit world so I am not sure if that is called a sacred fire?
There are so many different types of Sacred Fires in Indigenous Culture that it very well could be Henry! We use the Sacred Fire as a spiritual doorway and it sounds like you do the very same :)
A Fire Spirit comes to my fire pit when the moon is full and low in the sky. I was ignorant and made no offerings. Thank you, and all the great comments here, for the education.
@@MalloryRoseCo Thankyou , I always enjoyed having bonfires in the garden , it felt ancient and a connection to the past . Nowadays my wood burner is the closest I come to fire , the connection to spirit is in the flames , energy .
Question: in order for a sacred fire to be successfully executed, should the participants have a blessing From someone or have the direct permission from a tribe for proper cultural practitioner? In other words, is there a proper or authentic way to do this that maximizes the cultural respect from which these rituals come from?
Thanks for your question. Here's some more info about sacred fires. www.ontarioaboriginalhousing.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/sacredfire2.pdf typically sacred fires are started and watched over by a fire keeper. This person is usually asked to be the fire keeper or chosen by their community to be a fire keeper. It is a question I believe, best left for an elder or healer to answer. Depending on where you're located, it's a great idea to contact your closest native healing centre or health centre. You can make an appointment with a healer or elder who can further guide you on the topic! :)
