Wayne Kemp never got the credit he was due as a country singer..He was one of the best back in the day when country music was country. The mess that spews out of Nashville today isn't country at all, not to me anyway...Thanks for posting this video...Cheers.. Wayne..
i bet you've heard his songs tho by other artists. Wayne wrote or co-wrote: "love bug", "the fireman", "i'm the only hell my mama ever raised", "one piece at a time", "watch that first step", "feeling single seein' double", "the image of me".. and a TON more! :)
"I wonder who turned out the lights in your world tonight, "Did we have to come this far to say goodbye"...Wayne had some great songs in the early 70's...
I played drums for Wayne for a few years. He was an awesome songwriter and a real great performer. Oh the stories I could share. Two others I would like to mention are band members Billy Arr piano and Jay Marshall bass. Hey Kemperoos.Love ya.
Yeah, I went to Lansing Mich with Wayne and you guys in OCT 1974 in a Ford Van. Several days @ the Nashville North Club.[The nephew of the late Mack Vickery] Wayne Kemp was a highly talented individual who never received the acclaim he deserved in Country Music.
I think my favorite was "She Only Meant to Use Him". It never got very high on the charts, but I loved it to death; in fact I even made a cassette tape of it from youtube. Did you do the drums on that one?
He had an old club here called " The Love Bug" Never had so much fun!!! He was and is a great, great singer and song writer. Wish the ones like him would stay around forever. The club was in Lawton, Ok.
Wayne should have gotten a lot lot more recognition for not only his songwriting but his singing too, My favorite has always been "Harlan County" ........
Wayne's voice has been a companion to my life.Wayne, i had the pleasure to meet this honest and down home artist some years ago,had been an artist who did so much for our beloved real country music.Somehow under the surface i think.
Trere's absolutely No reason why wayne kemp shouldn't have made it big. Country Music Justice wasnt served... Are you reading this Nashville?????!!!!!!!!!
I just searched yahoo, which referred me to Wikipedia. Sadly, Wayne Kemp died March 9, 2015. Wikipedia said he was born June 11, 1940. Joel Whitburn's Hot Country Singles said he was born June 2, 1941.
There's no country singer/songwriter I love more than the late/great Mr. Wayne Kemp. His uniquely touching voice penetrates to the deepest recesses of the human soul. Milton Moore
@@ruthboykin9873 I got your message on my notifications about a song to listen to that I have to touch the screen, but the message somehow didn't appear on this page, so please try sending it again, as something went amiss. Thanks

@cloud2a7 I'd give anything to play the guitar like your grandfather. I'd love to meet him too. I'm 26 and LOVE his music!!!!!! My favorite song by him is "Alcohol of Fame". All I listen to is "True" Country Music, not that damn stuff they got on the radio now days.
@mmay63 - I didn't see your post before I posted. I hung out at the Love Bug with Wayne, Curtis, Belle, Honey Welch and the Love Bugs and dated Jerry Pruitt. That club was soooooooooo much fun. I played pool there a lot and "helped" out by waiting tables and washing glasses - just for fun and a few tips. I knew Wayne was a singer but lost contact after I got married and left Lawton. It's good to see he was inducted into the song writer's Hall of Fame. He deserves it.
Cool! yeah i have almost all of his 45's + the 2 early 70's albums.. and the early 80's compilation CD's.. every song is great! lotsa good stuff on ebay.. 45's are the majority of his releases....
Yes, he is the writer.Wayne and my late Uncle Mack Vickery wrote numerous songs together and also performed together at various times during their careers. Some of the songs include "The Fireman" / "Who'll Turn Out the Lights" / I'm the only Hell my Momma Ever Raised".
Wayne Kemp is a great singer. I've been lilstening to his songs and I love his voice. This is the first time I've seen him in person. He seems like a very nice man. Gwen Weaver
I was one of the lucky ones to hear the original by Wayne, before George Strait covered it. "The Fireman" is by Wayne, too. If anyone can find a way to post "Barroom Habits" I'd be forever in their debt.
One guy with so many talents God sure blessed him writer singer guitar player picking the songs out we were lucky to have Wayne in our world nowhere singing in heaven
I just ordered the 2 CDs of Wayne Kemp that Ernest Tubb Record Shop has, a few minutes ago... Can't wait til they get here!... If Wayne's songs were on iTunes, I'd definately buy them and add em to my library!!
He had an old club here called " The Love Bug" Never had so much fun!!! He was and is a great, great singer and song writer. Wish the ones like him would stay around forever.
cloud2a7 - I am so glad to see that Wayne is still doing well. Ask him if he remembers Curtis and Belle Wayne from the Love Bug Club in Lawton, Oklahoma. I met him there and have always had a lot of respect for him. I believe he was recovering from a car accident. My name is Sharon and I dated Jerry Pruitt back when I met your grandpa. Please send my love to him.
It always amazes me why such great writers that can also sing let other artist do their songs, If I wrote and could sing I'd release the song under myself then later if it never charted let somebody else give it a go. Wayne should have been such a Big Star
Sharon, I had to respond, Nice to hear from some one that knows about curtis wayne and the love bug club. Honey Welch was my friend and we played at the love bug and twin oaks club . 1969 - 1970 Fun wild and crazy times...... Glad we survived ! Take Care

I don't know which I like better-this or the studio version. Both are good listening, far better than anything today, for sure.
I played drums for Wayne for a few years. He was an awesome songwriter and a real great performer. Oh the stories I could share. Two others I would like to mention are band members Billy Arr piano and Jay Marshall bass. Hey Kemperoos.Love ya.
