Introduction to Stippling Tutorial - Drawing with Dots (Part 1)

Stippling is a form of art that uses dots to create a larger image. In this lesson, I will guide you through my beginning process of drawing a rhinoceros. I will be using smooth bristol paper.
As a reference image, I will use an amazing picture by photographer Will Burrard-Lucas. willbl.com/

You can use any image that you would like, but if you are just starting out, I would recommend something that has good depth and looks good in black and white. There are many images on Burrard-Lucas' page that are awesome for this and he allows his work to be used as reference images for artwork.

If you’re talking about what paper type, I like smooth Bristol. It keeps a fine point to the dots without bleeding too much into the paper. I love watercolor paper for pencil and other types of media but Bristol is great for fine pens.
