First, Algerians were only tribes and were enslaving Europeans (French, Italians, Spanish, Irish, Swedes, Norde, etc) during 3 centuries until French colonized them. Even Americans were ransomed and enslaved and after the Barbarians wars they didn't win, France was obliged to take over the area of their country that didn't exist at this time. After this, French helped their population to be multiplied by around 10 times. Later, the US set up a revolution among them and then the war erupted as it was said that there was some oil and it would have prevent them to get the petro-dollar (See the seven sisters report from Al-Jazeera if you're interested in). Same that happened in Indochina where there is too, by the way. So, the war was about oil, not about Algerians or any grudges. And in fact, it's worst than that given that Black Africans were put into slavery by North African during 13 centuries. And it still continues in Mauritania. So I would not say that it was for nothing given that the former colonizers at least made stop and forbid the slavery given that the French on their own soil were shocked to know about this and oblige them to change while occupying the country. Surely it makes a difference for some Black Africans that usually don't take this into account. But it's the proof that Christianism and Islam are quite different : one forbid the slavery while the other exists for 14 centuries and makes it for 13 centuries at least, and continues it in the Middle East like in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and so on where Nepalese workers die...

China has been settled by people for thousands of years and exists as a country for a thousand years or more. Yet on their land, large carnivorous predators still live like leopards, tigers, bears and wolves. And also many large herbivores like elephants, deer, wild boar, antelopes etc. Look at Europe, much of the wolves are gone in Western Europe and none left on the British isles, certainly the lions are all dead and gone.

It was always a matter of time before neo-colonialism was completely overthrown, so Africans would make their own decisions based on their priorities. We could not do it between the sixties and eighties because we lacked the manpower. And power was constantly changing hands for no appreciable reason. Today is different: there are millions of qualified people chomping at the bits to prove that we can run our countries. The beauty of China's presence in Africa is that it knew to build bridges first, metaphorically and literally. It has since added co-operation in other infrastructure development and light manufacturing. As more of her industries mature, there will be need to seek labor competitive sites outside China - Africa must cash in. More than half the world's fastest growing economies are on the continent because of Chinese money. For almost 50 years, Africa has very little to show for its relationship with the West and far more to show with its relationship with the East for under 10 years! Now Europe is back with alarmist sentiments on Chinese investments in Africa after blowing a 50 year chance when Africa was quite naïve to look elsewhere. Africa now boasts of more expansive infrastructure than in the colonial and post colonial West chaperoned Africa; which is very well over 150 years. When one has much to lose that was mainly gained from those that were robbed till they had almost nothing to lose, they fear the rise of the disadvantaged for they feel that status quo would change. They therefore seek "amicable" solutions that do not affect the status quo. Why then have ill-gotten wealth and lose sleep over it while you could just do clean business and still get rich? That's a question that the West must consider.
China can stop this big hemorrhaging of people out of Africa into Europe by enabling the people of Africa to partake of a more fair share of their own pie than the Europeans have ever dared to allow. This will decrease the level of stress in these countries. People will naturally prefer to remain home as a result.
