Got my lens last month, still have your issues about the hood. Waiting for the revised version of new hood. I taped a thin light seal foam inside the rim of the square hood, now it is so tight that the hood will never fall off by accident. It’s a great lens with characters.
I bought a used a chrome Summilux 50mm ASPH from a friend. The lens itself was was sticky in the focus, so I chose to send it in to Wetzlar for some new lube. 310.USD. It took them 3 months before I got it back. Unfortunately when they had assembled the lens, they forgot to tighten the focus finger tab... In again. This time it only took them 2 months. Im fairly disappointed in the way Leica handles their costumer service. In your situation, I don't think it's fair to wait 6 months for something to be fixed. I hope they improve in the future.
yeah I feel for a brand like this they're customer service has to be perfect to justfiy the cost. I am sorry to hear your incident, I would definitely be pissed off if they sent me back the lens with new problems.
I _really_ hope that Leica watches this video. They really turned the company around for the digital era with Andreas Kaufman, but it seems a lot of their efforts are being thrown away because of their poor QA and service turn around. Imagine being a professional photographer who shoots Leica. If your camera has issues, have fun simply not having one for 8 months while they figure out that the film pressure plate is scratching negatives, or the camera freezes (digital) or simply bricks. If your lenses have issues, you may as well have back ups of your favourite focal lengths from Voigtlander, or heck, even cheaper brands like TT Artisans, because they seem to have much more reliability than Leica lenses. Which should embarrass Leica HQ considerably. It’s just really unfortunate. I’m glad your new copy seems to be much better, however that turn around time is pretty unacceptable.
Congrats! Mine is still in Germany (sticky focus ring straight out of the box). How did you convince them to give you a new one? I sent it in for warranty (2 months ago) and I'm told I have to wait 7 total months for a repair.
I didn't really specify for a replacement. I too filled out the repair sheet, but ended up getting a replacement. You probably will too if they can't fix it.
@tonywu5571 Sure cron can’t go to f/1.4, but after reading many sources from the internet, some says 35mm cron v4 uses same optical formula as lux pre-a. I have lux pre-a v2, but I don’t have cron v4 to compare and confirm that both of the lens share same IQ on same aperture. I knew Jimmy have both of the lenses, so I hope he can throws cron to the comparison for analysis 😁
6 months is no way justifiable. 6 weeks would even be a long time. You pay a hefty premium for any a Leica product. That should cover a well functional costumer service and give you feeling that you are importen and well taken care of.
Hello again Jimmy thanks for the last reply. Do you think there is a big different between this lens and summilux fle i ? Because there are 1 meter and 0.7 meter. Thanks !!! ❤
They are two completely different lenses. The FLE v1 is a lot sharper, bigger because it’s a modern design lens. This is a 1950s design so it’s a lot softer wide open and has that classic Leica glow, also a lot smaller
Jimmy… first WOW that took that long… that wasn’t cool having to wait 6 mos. Would you say that replacement steel rim is the aperture now the same tightness as the V2 summilux? Or is it more snug? I’m very curious to see how the new hood works with filters when it comes to vignetting. How do we get this new hood? I’ve heard nothing from my dealer or from Leica about this. Thanks for the update Jimmy! Hope this new replacement steel rim works better for you!
I’ve not tested the new hood yet. I sent Leica an email mainly about the loose aperture ring and they updated me with the hood. The replacement is certainly better than the original one but it’s still not on par with other Leica brass lenses like the silver Summicron asph v1. It just felt cheap.
I know Leica has started the delivery of this lens with its redesigned hood, so I think mine is on its way soon. Your comment on the aperture ring is interesting. I think my 35 mm Summilux pre-ASPH is also slightly less than perfect in that respect, ie. not completely tight-fitted. I would like to see a direct comparison of this reissued steel rim to its original version in both performance and build quality.
I don't have the pre-a steel rim, but I do have the titanium version of the last gen pre-a, that lens feels more sturdy, at least the aperture ring fit is better.
@@JimmyChengI finally received mine. It works fine to my satisfaction. Performance wide open at f/1.4 is quite different from other aperture settings. Look forward to your review.
Congratulations!! Please, what is the part number of new lens hood? (my hoods 12486 and 12487) My lens is manufactured 2023.05.16, when is your new lens? -Thanks in advance-
@@JimmyCheng I’ve decided not to buy any ASPH lenses. And nothing from Leica made starting with the M11 and after. M10R and prior is all I need. Also I think their non-ASPH lenses are more beautiful. Anyone who wants a steel rim get the original in mint condition. They’re selling all over the place.

totally agree. It’s sad to see the newer lenses having so many issues. They should really up the QA game before losing some of the loyal customers.
Hi Jimmy, Can i ask some questions about Hood that you got from Leica. It can used with filter ?
@@ratchaponpoungkaew2061 yep
@ Ollux hood ? How can i get it sir ? It’s for sell now ?

Jimmy, for the next video please don't forget to include 35mm summicron v4 (bokeh king) into the comparation as well. Thank you :)
Well maybe Jimmy wants to compare inside the luxes (max F1.4) only😂 the crons are on the other track.
