Forging scrolling tongs

- I wanted to see if I could make a pair of scrolling plyers out of mild steel and I'm happy to say that I have been using them recently and they have held up just as well as my tool steel pair.
Let me know if you want to see more tong making videos as I want to make a load more new pairs to replace and expand my collection.

Great! Thank you.
Great video, great tongs. Thanks!
Yes! Thank you! I look forward to trying this out when I've got all my orders out the door.
Yeah have a go!
Nice Video!! I make ALL of my tongs out of mild steel. Mild steel IS easier to forge and easier to purchase as a source of material. I don't have any high carbon steel tongs. I was taught that the tongs are simply tools to use to make the piece that earns your money. Fuss LESS with the tongs and MORE on the customers piece. I have seen some smith's that get upset when their tongs get hot from the fire and workpiece. To me, THAT'S what they were made for. As a blacksmith, I can make another set of tongs as I need to but I NEED to focus on making the customers piece to earn a living.
I completely agree! Well said.
I'd love to see a series on tongs! I've just made my second pair (slot jaw, first was scrolling pliers like you did here), looking forward to seeing whatever you do next :)
Thank you!

Thank you so much!
Yeah a tong series would be good because there very expensive if you buy a few different styles
I’ll get it done Roy!
good video, congrats on 1k :)
Thanks Ben!
Awesome work Oscar. Perfect timing as I’ve tried to make some scrolling tongs and made a dogs breakfast of it. Good to know you used 20x10 as I tried to make the boss from moving stock instead of just picking a good wide stock piece from the start.
Glad to see you hit 1K, the next 9K will fly bye as you have a great channel.
Thank you so much! Let’s see what happens!
Great, very nice! These will be my next tongs to make. I use 20mm round which is hard work, 20x10 is a good idea...
Yes bit of work to draw that down!
First! You’re so close to 1k subs!
Ik 😂😂 made it now!
8:30 in, reins thicker than the boss:🤔 Murphy's law says those reins will never touch metal to metal without the skin of your hand being painfully between them 😛🤔
In fact many pliers handles widen out again for a more comfortable grip. And the ones with a milled pivot are full width either side of the hinge.
Amigo,qual a utilidade dessa pinça?
Yes more tongs please!
Will do!
