Spanish Fascists fought Spanish Communists and Socialists in the Spanish Civil War . They were all Anti- Capitalist . Given the opportunity I wouldn't fight on either side . I would defend my home with with the best of my abilities.

No argument here, talent and a message or 50, one of the intelligent punk band, you didn't have to be a go head to have punk attitude, this is still relatable today, transpose Spanish bombs for Saddam's bombs you have a whole new generation, it looks like all we fought and died for in the middle east was a pointless waste of life.... Have you even listened to their 2nd album?! Id say 1st and 2nd and then half of London calling is punk, them u got singles like clash city rockers and 1977 to make up for the other half
Damn straight... made Punk, Ska, and more progressive types of New Wave what it is. Not to mention, influencing every genre of music all the way to Hip-Hop. R.I.P. to the legend Joe Strummer.
All of them are punk. Punk has an artistic side to it, with genres like post punk, art punk, new wave etc. The Clash are the only band that can play around the spectrum. That’s why I think they are the best
It’s also largely inspired by the dissolution of Joe Strummer’s relationship with Paloma Palmolive, the drummer of The Slits, who was from Spain. He’s comparing his personal loss to the tragedy of the Spanish Civil War. The loss of hope on an ideological and personal level
I heard this song when I was 11 when my dad played it in the car. I'm 28 now and still love the clash. My dad probably regrets instilling the spirit of rebellion in me though 🤣
The Clash were really special. Started as a punk band in the early wave of British punk rock. Not great musicians, no pretty voices, not good looking. But good songwriters, and so creative. Mick Jones is a great guitarist, Topper Headon one of the top 20 drummers of all time, and Paul Simonon a trend-setter in his bass lines. Joe Strummer wasn't a great singer or guitarist, but the totality of their influence to ALL genres of music cannot be denied.
Great English band, a real political punk rock band that also mixed in some reggae in a few songs. Please listen to "Guns of Brixton", "rock the casbah", "train in vain", "revolution rock", "London's Calling" & "lost in the super market". Please & Thx.
In1939, When Hitler practiced blitzkrieg tactics against Spanish civilians and an international rag tag army, of painters ,poets, and a band of everyday people.
If you want to learn more about the Spanish Civil War various Cool Zone Media shows have covered it. There was a Behind the Bastards miniseries called Behind the Insurrection, about times fascists tried to take over their governments. That's probably a good place to start.
“Federico Lorca is dead and gone” A rich communist poet that died for his country in the most fatal way. One of the best poets that this world gave us.
Joe said this was his favorite song by the Clash in an interview I heard on a radio station. It was mine too until I heard some snotty punk rocker say it .😁
So tough to remember what I just heard sometime, I’m getting better now tho going off the top of the head and making sense of the music with out notes but it’s usually just a couple of words for talking points
Every body reacts to Rock the Casbah and Should I Stay or Should I Go, those are not their best songs, though they are great. Spanish Bombs also isn’t one of their best songs. The Clash is the greatest punk rock band of all time. Listen to their album London Calling.
"Trenches full of poets, a ragged army, fixing bayonets to fight the other line." Has there ever been a cooler anti fascist line in music?

Probably my second favorite song from this album after "guns of brixton".
Paul's vocals on that aren't great, but something about that song have always hit for me. It's on one of my playlists for a reason.
Authentic Punk Rock band ! Love London calling, I fought the law (and the law won) + Should I stay or should I go is another banger of theirs 🔥
Lost in the Supermarket and Brand New Cadillac. :-)

😊 Even though they are a punk band, they have a lot of melodic songs, and some downright dance songs; I've got one on Teez's list; can't wait!
Me neither
