They could have taken this IP to amazing heights if they properly developed it instead of making a quick cash grab. They could be opening up a real life Blizzard World at this point if they had handled it correctly.

If I remember correctly in one of moira and echos interaction she does say that liao was more interested in her predecessor and I think that’s what we are seeing right now
i have a theory about aurora and zenyatta: (for anyone who doesn't know, Aurora is an omnic created by dr mina liao who created echo, aurora was the first sentient omnic and she transcended/sacrificed herself to give all Omnics sentience) so a while back the official overwatch website stated that zenyatta was 20 years old, but this doesn't really make sense since the omnic crisis most likely took place around 30 years ago. aurora transcended before the crisis, which is what gave all omnics sentience, so how does zenyatta have sentience? he said in stone by stone (the short story about symmetra) that he does have a soul, thoughts, and feelings like every other omnic. my theory is that zenyatta is still sentient despite being "born" after the omnic crisis because he is the reincarnation of aurora and isn't aware of it. i know that doesn't make much logical sense but neither does a magical fox spirit or sentient robots. but this might seem impossible because zenyatta has said he has memories from before the crisis, specifically he says: - he was a lifeguard at a water park - he collected payments at a laser tag arena - he served coffee - he drove a tractor he also says that he only has a few memories from before the crisis, and that it's "like a dream" to him. i think that all these memories are from his life as aurora. at one point in auroras life, she went on a journey of self-discovery in India to learn what it means to be human. its possible that she tried to do a bunch of human jobs and activities to try to complete this goal to understand better, and so she did all those things. i think that if this is true zenyatta doesn't know that he's aurora, he only has a few memories from his life as her. also, zen and aurora do share some similarities, like how zen's transcendence ultimate directly resembles the description of her transcendence, and how aurora is also depicted floating and having multiple arms in symmetra's statue of her anyways that's my theory lol
the zenyatta job thing is a joke, he's making a joke, none of those was his real past jobs aurora is treated more like a god so make sure to note that as she could very much not be "real" or atleast her perception of herself
@@strvmpet well we don't really know for sure if it's a joke or not, even ram and genji don't know. also, aurora is not a god, the iris is. aurora was very much real and im 99% sure that she's the omnic who was speaking at the end of the trailer
I don't think IRIS is a god but she is something other worldly. Only Sigma knows. And the unstable state of sigmas mind may have been caused when he got exposed to Iris while he was experimenting gravity. But even that is far fetched as Sigma casually states that he has met Iris, he doesn't seem terrified. Maybe Iris saved him. So many mysteries...
Despite dropping overwatch 2, i still cant help but get excited whenever a new animation is released. Theyre always done so well and i wish blizzard did more with them to expand the Lore
@@semp1tern4l Most people aren't too concerned over the animation quality of an animated show, what they really care about are other factors such as the premise and writing. Invincible is a good example of this; the animation was mediocre, but no one really complained because the show was good, and it went on to be successful.
No campaign, five player lobbies instead of six, broken promises, but the animation trailers? This is all they have left. While the game burns, the animation team is paid handsomely. At least, I hope with these. You have one job. Keep the animations coming. Lore baby.
I like Overwatch a lot despite being down on it currently... This was great and made me feel a lot. If they can keep dropping things like this (and hopefully emulate League in how it expands its brand into other mediums such as shows, music, and side games) this could easily grow to be the biggest brand in history. The fact that PvE became news beyond the playerbase is because people want Overwatch. I don't play LoL but I love the brand because of the way's I interact with it outside of the game. Game's that aren't the PvP, Music (the KDA alternative universe thing is so fun!), and stuff like this short (and stuff bigger) are what make a franchise big. Overwatch has every chance to become bigger than it is. It's a mid tier game that could become a global sensation to those not even interested in PvP. There is so much potential. Please keep making things like this. I hope this is just an interesting start to much much more in the future. People love Overwatch. Give them more Overwatch!
Wow! This is interesting! Torbjorn looked very derpy and some other characters too, with the lower budget animation, but still pretty solid. I'm interested in where this takes the story! Hope we get a lot of clarifications and details of the omnic crisis and how the omnics became what they are today! Seems like this is that exactly based on the trailers unless I'm missinterpreting it. Nice going Team 4!! :D
Two points from watching this after reading the OW history book. 1) wow its still mindblowing that Omnica corp was bankrupt for at least a yr before the crisis happened and 2) the funny part about that UN military man calling Liao and co's research/development that led to Aurora's creation "arrogance" is so hilariously absurd of him to say. Omnica pre-Liao is purely responsible for all the issues and mistakes that led to the crisis happening (like making a bunch of omniums that they never used and yet didn't destroy for a number of reasons namely wanting to get the most monetary value of selling them-something anubis took control of easily and without ppl noticing thanks to them) and the one good thing that ending up coming from Omnica was Aurora- a sentient omnic they later used to turn the tide against anubis w the awakening- someone that couldn't have existed without the shortlived Liao era of Omnica corp. Also it's hilariously propagandistic how Omnica Corp stuck Liao in front of the world and made her their mouthpiece, no wonder some ppl like UN military man conflate Liao with the worst of Omnica corp or even thinking of her as the leader/founder/CEO when she was none of those things. She was just a brilliant scientist at the top of her field in AI that was scooped up by omnica corp to try and revitalize the company from their impending financial ruin of bad business practices/decisions. Also to ppl who dont know the god AIs aren't made from Omnica Corp, there are original programmers for each separate god AI (of which there are a ton and a few that are as large as anubis) but the names are lost to time mostly bc being associated with them is a death sentence to one's career. God AIs are not omnica corp property they were controlled and owned by the regions they were based in. Liao probs got the short end of the stick to the public bc she was so visibly associated w omnica corp.
Despite what people are saying here, generic storyline, not great animation, they don't credit the studio. Blizzard doesn't have a internal animation studio for western animation. They have one for CGI, but this isn't a normal Blizzard cinematic. Looked around and tried to find the credits, but couldn't find it. Not sure who they licensed out to.

You really think the balancing team works on animated media? Stupid
@@forthegod yea man the people making the 3d videogame are also the ones making this 2d animation
How is this a W for the community? Cool we got some new lore, the game is still a dumpster fire though
So glad the universe of Overwatch is being expanded. The lore and characters is what made me a fan in the first place.
If they would expand their team and divide it into different groups. They should make a tv show or Netflix show about the overwatch characters. That would be soooo nice❤
The anime style is nice. But with Pixar level cinematics blizzard is capable of making I really wanted a full movie. Either way, I am excited to get more lore and look forward to the rest of this series.
Unfortunately that type of animation is significantly harder to make and more expensive
@@crystallxix1493 blizzard can probably afford it
@@SweetKandi ehhh I wouldn’t be so sure, at least not with such high quality. Even billion dollar studios dedicated solely to making that have to resort to lesser quality for the majority of the movie. It’s also why Shows usually don’t use such animation and it’s reserved for 2 hour movies
Just one of those full-fledged cinematics costs millions to make. I doubt with how short the series will be that they even spent 2 or even 1 million. A full-length cinematic-style movie would be way over their budget
@@crystallxix1493 yeah good point. maybe they could do a miniseries like arcane
Even though it's not a full tv adaptation like fans have wanted, this actually looks pretty good. Nice to be excited about overwatch content for a change...
Everything was peaceful, until the fire natio -- I mean Omnics attack
I have waited years for something like this. I love the overwatch lore and comics, this gives me so much hope
OMG SAMEEE
Don't hope. This is to distract from their failure and lies about delivering a single player mode.
@@bthsr7113 Your point is literally "But the game is bad",yes,it is,this is a mini series, not the game

This was everything I wanted I’m so excited for more. Blizzard we would love a full series 🥺
🙏 I hope the outsource for a full series. Or better you build a bigger animation side of blizzard to make this possible
Wow, this 5 minute animation has totally redeemed Blizz and the OW team for all the bullshit they've pulled. Everything is fixed now! /s
God, Blizzard as a company is such a mess, but I HAVE to commend the writers and art teams for putting so much amazing work into this! So excited!

@@maxwaldor5132 Hopefully one without In-game purchases and lots of love put into it!
I've been saying it since day 1 OW, but the cinematics carry the the game. They need a full blown movie not just a show
@@ubacow7109 a show is better than a movie because they are able to do a fully fleshed-out story without runtime limitations and ofc it being longer is a W for the fans. A show like arcane would bring so many new players to the game that previously had no interest in playing it.
This honestly reminds me of The Animatrix especially the Second Renaissance.
Can't wait to see more after this Introduction.
I was just gonna say! One of my favorite things to watch was the whole Animatrix. It pretty much showed the same premise. Man was it gruesome at times (Robot squishing that mech pilots face and the nuking of the UN after they signed the charter, lol)
Yeah, I was thinking Second Renaissance as well. In fact, I feel like they kinda cribbed off it a little.
Blizzard was loved for YEARS, the real keyword here "was."

God, Overwatch has so much potential, I'm glad at least the animation team can see that.
An exceptional and amazing example of how to build a world that people resonate and care about within a video game. It’s such a shame Blizzard/Activision chose greed and a quick cash grab, instead of creating the best possible version of this game.
They could have taken this IP to amazing heights if they properly developed it instead of making a quick cash grab. They could be opening up a real life Blizzard World at this point if they had handled it correctly.
if the animation looks like the doomfist cinematic it will be really sick
Which unfortunately... clearly isn't the case 😕
I like the part where the cyberpunk anime has more animations in the first 10 seconds than this whole video.
Yall really changed the title from animated to anime short the moment this went live. Trying way too hard dawg, im crying 😂
Still a great step in the right direction for the story of this universe.
Ah, yes, the best part of Overwatch: The stuff that isn't actually the game
I have a (not so) mild obsession with the lore, so it's nice to see Blizzard focus on where it's charm lies; The complex world they built and the characters within it . Even after a few months break from the game, I was still super hyped for this because I'm invested in the story of the world.
As somebody who is obsessed with the lore, I’d assumed you’ve seen the other animation videos they put out years ago. Do you not think this one was DRASTICALLY worse than those? The animation is so cheap and lazy here.

crazy how 7 years later the overwatch lore is still on "part one" and "genesis"
bro they just started why would they be on part 2, and i think it’s called genesis because it’s going to be about how the omnics become sentient

I swear Blizzards animations are always amazing. This was great
0:48 That animation cut is just... wow. Looks like they hired a team to make this in 2 months.
Sorry. I don't see the animation everyone else seems to be complimenting. And it feels a bit click-baity to outright call it "anime" now when the Doomfist one wasn't. And that one was leagues better than this.
What anime are you trying to emulate here? Ex-arm? Why not continue with the 3D animated shorts that has always been working for you if you're not gonna do it as well as you did the Doomfist short?
If I remember correctly in one of moira and echos interaction she does say that liao was more interested in her predecessor and I think that’s what we are seeing right now
These videos never fail to disappoint! Keep it up
i have a theory about aurora and zenyatta:
(for anyone who doesn't know, Aurora is an omnic created by dr mina liao who created echo, aurora was the first sentient omnic and she transcended/sacrificed herself to give all Omnics sentience)
so a while back the official overwatch website stated that zenyatta was 20 years old, but this doesn't really make sense since the omnic crisis most likely took place around 30 years ago. aurora transcended before the crisis, which is what gave all omnics sentience, so how does zenyatta have sentience? he said in stone by stone (the short story about symmetra) that he does have a soul, thoughts, and feelings like every other omnic. my theory is that zenyatta is still sentient despite being "born" after the omnic crisis because he is the reincarnation of aurora and isn't aware of it. i know that doesn't make much logical sense but neither does a magical fox spirit or sentient robots. but this might seem impossible because zenyatta has said he has memories from before the crisis, specifically he says:
- he was a lifeguard at a water park
- he collected payments at a laser tag arena
- he served coffee
- he drove a tractor
he also says that he only has a few memories from before the crisis, and that it's "like a dream" to him. i think that all these memories are from his life as aurora. at one point in auroras life, she went on a journey of self-discovery in India to learn what it means to be human. its possible that she tried to do a bunch of human jobs and activities to try to complete this goal to understand better, and so she did all those things.
i think that if this is true zenyatta doesn't know that he's aurora, he only has a few memories from his life as her.
also, zen and aurora do share some similarities, like how zen's transcendence ultimate directly resembles the description of her transcendence, and how aurora is also depicted floating and having multiple arms in symmetra's statue of her
anyways that's my theory lol
the zenyatta job thing is a joke, he's making a joke, none of those was his real past jobs
aurora is treated more like a god so make sure to note that as she could very much not be "real" or atleast her perception of herself
@@strvmpet well we don't really know for sure if it's a joke or not, even ram and genji don't know. also, aurora is not a god, the iris is. aurora was very much real and im 99% sure that she's the omnic who was speaking at the end of the trailer
I like the theory! Should be interesting to see where they go with Aurora
@@josbird thanks! also I agree :)

I hope this series becomes massively successful; maybe that will push them to make a full Netflix series or something.
hahahahaha you wish
15min of bad animation will become successful, yeah for sore
@@semp1tern4l Most people aren't too concerned over the animation quality of an animated show, what they really care about are other factors such as the premise and writing. Invincible is a good example of this; the animation was mediocre, but no one really complained because the show was good, and it went on to be successful.
Vro FINALLY OW folks it must have been hard watching people say "y no tv show" all the while this was still under wraps. Looking forward to it.
No campaign, five player lobbies instead of six, broken promises, but the animation trailers? This is all they have left. While the game burns, the animation team is paid handsomely. At least, I hope with these. You have one job. Keep the animations coming. Lore baby.

This looks great! an uncommon Overwatch W? ILL TAKE IT!
For $29.99 you get all three episodes in the battle pass.

For real.
I hope this series does well and leads to something bigger long term. Great job to the animation team!
This felt more like a trailer than a episode one
Thank you for the info.
It's been about 7ish years but we finally getting the much awaited lore 😭😭
