  • At 17 years old, Mallory O’Brien became the youngest athlete to win an individual CrossFit Games event.
    O’Brien earned her first Games career event win by performing a total of 55 unbroken thrusters at 135 lb and 55 touch-and-go wall walks in a descending rep scheme from 10 to 1.
    Watch O’Brien dominate the field in this replay of Individual Event 4 from the 2021 CrossFit Games.

    1:56 I would definitely not be dropping the bar and having to clean it back up again if I didn't need to. And Mal definitely didn't need to. She has the engine and strength and clearly knew her game plan. Awesome work!

    • @TheLingonator
      @TheLingonator 2 роки тому +14

      i think theres actually an argument to be made that holding the bar overhead is actually less fatiguing than putting it down, as if you put it down you have to complete an extra "clean" to get the bar back to position to begin reps, so a little bit short sighted of the announcer to be calling it out so harshly.

    • @erinball7437
      @erinball7437 2 роки тому +12

      Agreed. Locked out in an overhead press with a very submaximal weight is a rest position. Adding more cleans would have drained too much energy for her with her strategy. The announcer's continued advice against her approach was getting pretty old!

      @@lishengshun2873 its beyond probably. There are definitely genetic freaks out there who will look 100% roided up even when they are not, but even they have genetic limits. She simply has wayyy too much muscle at that level of body fat to be natural. Her frame, literally, could not develop and hold that amount of muscle being that lean.
      I'm not against her, probably 90% or more of the people in this contest are on heavy gear. She still beat them all. And at 17! Which is INSANE. But still, that's a lot of drug use during puberty, and I just hope it doesn't have far lasting implications in the later half of her life.

      @@samkessler1111 I 100% agree. Taking gear doesn't make you an elite anything without huge effort. It does, however, give you a super unfair advantage against those who do it clean. Since basically nobody in Crossfit is clean, it doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, sometimes I wonder just how much more exciting the Olympics would be if they let people openly dope xD I'm happy they don't, just for the health of the athletes, but it would still be hella fun to watch.
