When I met John he was 80 and was planning on going to Spain to retire. I thought wow 80 years old and wanted to sell his home in Valencia and move to Spain. He was a nice man.
Love this interview with John! He’s a legend! I always love your interview with ordinary people whose lives are very interesting and hopefully we will all learn from them! God loves you Mark! Stay safe! 🙏❤️✝️🙏❤️✝️
Mark, you can always get the best of interviews with someone who has been around. We all have stories of our life and John certainly keeps it interesting with your curiosity!
What a wonderful and interesting man.i would love to be able to sit down and have a talk with him.sadly not to many of them left.i too left home at sixteen and went on a oil tanker, joined the British army at eighteen and served in Kenya ,coal mined in uk ,migrated to Australia and now line alternating between Australia and Thailand.the world is a wonderful place, enjoy it, Traveling jack
Very cool Dude, wonder how many children he has floating around. His memory reminds me of my dad he was in his late 90's and could remember way back to the 20's when he grew up next door to Al Capone in Baltimore. Can't wait for part 2!
@@truttman @cathytauscher Cathy is right, Capone resided in Baltimore during his stay at a hospital there. This is what Wikipedia has to say about it: "Due to his failing health, Capone was released from prison on November 16, 1939, and referred to the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for the treatment of syphilitic paresis. Because of his unsavory reputation, Johns Hopkins refused to treat him, but Union Memorial Hospital was willing to take him as a patient. Capone was grateful for the compassionate care that he received and donated two Japanese weeping cherry trees to Union Memorial Hospital in 1939. After a few weeks of inpatient and outpatient care, on March 20, 1940, a very sickly Capone left Baltimore and travelled to his mansion in Palm Island, Florida."
Thank u for loving Philippines❤🙏🇵🇭 your one of the great person to die hard my country...if ever my country gives u a honor medal for golden 50 yr that u!😍😀😀
Such a major loss. I thank God for every moment and for each breath of life. We never know when it’s going to be our time. It happens quickly I have witnessed five loved ones move on.
OMG! He reminds me of my father in law. But my wife’s father is dead and so is the wife. Her whole family is gone but that’s another story. Haha he is a character for sure. My dad only made it to 8th grade. Interesting interview Mark. You are are great at tracking these down. Peace ✌️
The old guy is interesting. But maybe Mark would have been better off being more chronological-----so the guy couldn't skip all over. And if they was 86 and was born about in 1935------he didn't really grow up in the 1930's. He grew up during WWII? Did his dad serve in WWII? My dad had an interview for his WWII years about 8 years ago-----and they started from birth thru jobs on into the start of his service to the end-----and kept him from jumping from event to event.
Please pass along a big Hello to John from David, Fe and Melody in Oklahoma. And tell him that Jack, Rose, Owen and Patricia are doing well in Florida. Thanks/
Mark, I've been following your interviews. Please keep going as your followers will grow and grow because there's interest in your interviews. You've found a niche interviewing men and it is very interesting, interesting than most other vlogs out there at least for the audience like us - grown men who've been around. In the future, you can branch out and interview ANY person, male or female because people of all kinds could be interesting. Good day.
Can you ever trust a man who refuses to tell you how old he is. He said he’s been in the Philipines for 55 years and then said he’s 16 going on 60. I mean, if you have nothing to hide, you just say your age or birth year. He doesn’t want to be identified by someone out there.
Thank you for the very interesting interview he may of been looking for heat for some other reason? very nice guy full of information take care stay safe and healthy
There could older Filipino government retirees(80yo+) in there that would be happy to share experiences with of old Dumageti. Just an option. No pressure. I am an avid viewer. God bless you always.
Traveling as much as John has changes a man. For example hes always aware of his surroundings, its second nature to him at this point. I have a friend just like him, hes just 65 but talks in the same somewhat mysterious way but is super sharp. I think this is just Johns personality, nothing to do with his age. It would be great if we could se some old black and white photos of John in his young age!
Old mate is a bit out of touch, like the other blokes say,so many roos in Australia they're used I pet food, and his hat,it looks like a genuine Akubra and if it is,they're made from rabbit skin, not kangaroo,he does seem to be travelling pretty good for his age,so good on him

Wow. What an interview!!!!! What a character....that's what New York lost, Its characters. This guy is right out of a novel......perfect come back with correct song choice. Quick wit
Kangaroos should be released in the Philippines, they breed better then Filipinas, there's still millions of them in Australia, would be a great food source in Philippines
When he took that hat off. I died laughing.
This guy is like a larger than life movie character. Gold.
John was great interview, I enjoyed his interesting comments on traveling the world., sad to hear of his passing……
RIP John gone but never ever forgotten.

Mark's herding mystical cats.
This is a great drinking video for every time he says, "Mark" ;)
This old guy's answers go on and on but still interesting to watch. You can learn a lot from older people.

I'm having a ball with your interviewed Mark. John is truly an old-timer.
Nice to see these characters still exist. Lot's of them around when I was young, but they are getting pretty scarce now.
He is right on the money regarding hats.
This guy is the best interview iff seen on urr channel his memary is brilliant his jive story is like watching a live time capsule
What a character, sounds like he is out of the Indiana Jones era :)
I'll give him the benefit of many doubts.
Extremely interesting life of John, a wealth of world knowledge, thank you.....
Mark excellent interview.
Looks like another 4 part mini series. Interested to know John's livelihood the past 55+ yrs in the PI. He's in great health condition for being 85+.
Mark, you can always get the best of interviews with someone who has been around. We all have stories of our life and John certainly keeps it interesting with your curiosity!

Agree-----the guys mind is sharp----but like you-----I don't believe much of what he said either. So much was plain wrong

Very cool conversation.

i love this guy!
"When it comes to this (marriage) I get a little amnesiac" 😂️ 😂️ 😂️
The last official count in 2016 of wild kangaroos in Australia , there were 44 million. Certainly not endangered. LOL cheers and stay safe.
a little disjointed, but come on......at 86, nobody is on their A-game. If I make it to 75, I hope I can put 2 sentences together.
he seems to live half in this world and half in the novels he read. i wonder which episode is which.
Great interview
what a cool guy
Rest In Peace mate
What a character ....:))
His Historical knowledge is Amazing!! But you have to have a lot of patience to let him get to the point. The side trips are informational as well.
Wow what a character :D
Very interesting. Should be some military Vets down there who also have great stories.

We had a lot of fun together....his stories were a bit embellished sometimes....
wish there was a part 2 but more in depth of what led him to stay there for 50+ yrs wow
Port of Spain, Queens Park Savanna, Chaguaramas, sugar cane fields and all that is in Trinidad. I'm from Trinidad also.
Sounds like BS but he is hilarious
True. Typical back in the days boomer.

I think when he says something it means something else in his mind. Learned a new term, "square heads". Likeable character

I wonder is the term “being a square” is related/derived from that ... it would seem likely.
This should have been good, but it quickly lost my interest.
Buh-bye. I think there's a Filipina scammer waiting for you to WU her. Better get down to the market.
Enjoyed watching this interview

Mark, you have a bad habbit of putting words in your interviewee's mouth. You assumed he went to Mecca. John never said that.
Pop bottles when I was a kid where .25 cents a piece
I was hoping for a hat version of Russian nesting dolls...just smaller and smaller and smaller hats revealed. He is an interesting person.
Great interview.....will there be a Part 2???
For some reason this felt like reading One Hundred Years in Solitude.

Mark you found another one for sure. He looks like a character out of a movie. How the hell did he get to go to university Iceland.....
he told U dudette. He's from the Damon Runyon school of NYC. They knew and learned more @ age 15 than a BA in Gender Studies knows today.
Do part 2 with him!!!
Sugarcane High and brown sugar Mark
New York City very very old never been heard.

Mark he has to be at least 85 year old? When I was a kid knew a old merchant marine.
WOW!!!
How did he survive so long in the Philippines? The cost of medical and all would break you. I would assume he has little social security?
Medical is cheap in the PI. The guy was a millionaire.
I would like to know how he could afford to stay there that long at a young age.
