I said the same thing recently, at age 70, and I studied music in college! For no known Earthly reason, I only this year bothered to listen. Now I'm in love!
Years ago some critic remarked that French music, like French wines, doesn't travel well. In my case, I blame my piano teacher. Lovely lady, good musician, but she'd had it pounded into her head that practically all great music had been written by Germans and Austrians between 1700 and 1900.
I have spent many tears on this recording, especially at 02:03 and again with the chorus, at 04:33 when Rameau confronts us with an appoggiatura, a 9th to gentle 10th on the IVth--heartbreaking.
Rameau absolutely captured the tenderness of love in this piece. I've listened to it live and on videos and it always brings me to tears. Well, I'm a hopeless romantic... 😢
And merci maestro William for your excellent choice of repertoire, and mille merci for decades of work with Les Arts Flo'. America's loss has been France's and Europe's gain.
Extremely moving, it transports us to another dimension. How much I hope someone could present it to the new generations, they would love to experience this kind of beauty.
I'm listening to this because I just discovered Nicolas Lebegue's massive Suite Du Premier Ton on Organ and it got me listening to French Baroque on UA-cam. This is a beautiful piece by Rameau, hardly a line can be drawn between Tendre Amour & Romantic Era music.
Sure it is a prayer, for a world of peace, tenderness. I love this piece of music so much, I listen it very often, and this performance with William Christie is the best, he is such a nice man, he loves music so much and all members of the orchestra. Greetings from the Netherlands
Exquisite- beautiful- the Immortal music of Rameau translated and shaped into the realm of the purest beauty by the hands of the great William Christie- a sublime moment for us all- Thank you for this download Mr. Vidaurre!
This is actually the climax of the Persian-set one-act opera, Les Fleurs, which is part of Les Indes Galantes, probably the most often performed of Rameau's operas today.
Bravo! A night out in town, home to relax to the sounds of Rameau as per the direction of William Christie. Thank you for making my mortaility seem so relevant.
THis is a delicious moment in the "turkish" act "les fleurs" of "les Indes Galantes", which are a masterwork througout. The concuctor is perfect, the orchestra and the choirs are at their best.
I've discovered Rameau recently ... and, In my opinion, the music is not the same now ...why? because Jean-Philippe has been able to show me why it's important music ... Music can guide you throught your doubts and become you happy on this way while you understands what is happening!!!
Thank you for uploading this wonderful performance. Voices and orchestra so finely balanced ; the separate vocal lines so clear and distinct, yet so perfectly harmonised ; the elisions between phrases, and the dramatic pauses, so well judged. Brilliant.
On a school trip to Paris in 1954 we were taken to the Paris Opera for a performance of Les Indes Galantes. Beautiful.
Just about the most beautiful music ever written.
All these years and I had never heard of Rameau, where have I been?
I said the same thing recently, at age 70, and I studied music in college! For no known Earthly reason, I only this year bothered to listen. Now I'm in love!
I was luckier then , to find out about him at the age of 40 , while studying music history 🎵🥀🎶🌷🌹💚🧡
Ditto!! Wonderful and I too love his music!
In the wrong century!
Years ago some critic remarked that French music, like French wines, doesn't travel well. In my case, I blame my piano teacher. Lovely lady, good musician, but she'd had it pounded into her head that practically all great music had been written by Germans and Austrians between 1700 and 1900.
William Christie never fails to delight. Where would Baroque music be without him and his impeccable taste ?
4:20 a tear runs down Christie's face. Everyone on that stage seems to feel the magic in the music...and we listeners feel it too.
I have spent many tears on this recording, especially at 02:03 and again with the chorus, at 04:33 when Rameau confronts us with an appoggiatura, a 9th to gentle 10th on the IVth--heartbreaking.

Hey Tony: Moves me to tears as well. You're not alone, Bro!!
Try to listen the scene of waking in his "Les Boreades".
Sir, bravo.
And merci maestro William for your excellent choice of repertoire, and mille merci for decades of work with Les Arts Flo'. America's loss has been France's and Europe's gain.
The wonderfulness of this performance is unrivaled
You can see the emotion and joy of music in the performers. Long live Rameau !
Ah! Mr. Christie, you and your musicians melt my heart. Thank you !

I t is a prayer. All musicians participating are so emotionally moved and so caught in this divine music
Sure it is a prayer, for a world of peace, tenderness. I love this piece of music so much, I listen it very often, and this performance with William Christie is the best, he is such a nice man, he loves music so much and all members of the orchestra. Greetings from the Netherlands
Grazie Rameau per questo pezzo di Cielo.
Rameau un genio della musica!!! ❤️
Inoubliable
A Baroque lover in Texas.
Welcome in our world! From France 🤗
Merci Monsieur Christie.
This is sublime! Have only now heard it! Incredible!
Eh oui, Rameau a été ignoré. Pour plein de raisons. Esthétiques, politiques. Comme Bach, Vivaldi. On découvre ! Merveille !
Something to keep in my favorites for ever . Thank you for posting !

Merci.

Rameau, Christie , a dream team.
Parfait!
Que c'est beau!
Qué calma para mi alma. Merci
It is amazing, the music was written around 300 years ago (just think of that) and it is so wonderfully modern. Thanks for uploading.
Bravo! A night out in town, home to relax to the sounds of Rameau as per the direction of William Christie. Thank you for making my mortaility seem so relevant.

Molto fluido e sereno.
Bellissima aria! Grazie!
