In a short span of time, I lost my job, my home, and my wife. I sold everything during three weekends of garage sales, packed up an old suv with a few clothes and essentials, then hit the road. Had no idea where I was headed. I just drove until the stars came out, found a rest area and went to sleep. The morning sun woke me. It was a new day. And I had to keep going. I listened to this soundtrack over and over again until I reached a small town in Washington, over 2,000 miles away. There, I found a home and began to gain footing in a new life. It took me three years, but I eventually came back to my old self. And I'll never forget that this music began that journey with me.
I had seen this movie in a theater and was amazed that I was not alone with tears. As we got up to leave I had noticed the entire audience was drying tears from their face. Powerful movie !!!
This is it boys, guys... whatever life throws at you, this is it... this soundtrack embodies THAT situation, and at the same time your endless potential as a human being to overcome it.
With it's longing desperate valleys to it's pleading sorrowful peaks, this theme encapsulates the deepest emotions of the human heart in ways everyone understands. Be it the loss of your true love, death of a life long friend or the tragedy of war, this says it all.
Thank you! What a beautiful thing to write. I think this is my favourite all-time piece of music. Although a grown man of 49 - it makes me weep like a baby every time I hear it...
The music just fits perfectly with the film. Not only that, but the complete idea of accepting what's happening around you in life. Knowing it's not always what you want to happen, accepting it, and moving on. Because there really is no better surprise than tomorrow. It really spoke to me...
Jens Klein thanks for giving ref: and for smashing a perfectly great analogy. It's all been said before.... just read face book. No one cares, no one challenges.. no one is here.
This made me cry when I first heard it, and now I've found out that this is going to be in the second movement of my school's marching band's show this fall. I have no idea how I'll be able to perform to this without crying.
Everytime I feel lonely, bad, when I think there is nothing much left here in this world I watch cast away...the power of love , you never know what life brings to the table. Sometimes its better to slow down ...and look arround. One of best movies out there, love it.
I cried just listening to this beautiful piece, love this movie. I love movies that concentrate on emotions & not what some dumb celebrity is doing or some unfunny dork who thinks he's funny making humor of everyone; but true heartfelt emotions conveyed to us that make us look deeper into everyday life & makes us ponder.
Kelly had to let him go, and he in return gave her the gift of letting her go. Her line: "You're the love of my life!", is a real heart breaker. He loved her enough to let her go on with the life she had to build from scratch after he disappeared.
Possibly one of the best and most under rated film of the last decade. This film changed my life at the young age of 11 and caused me to form a life long passion of remote islands
One of my favorite movies. Tom Hanks plays this part amazingly. When he loses Wilson your heart just goes out to him as that is what truly kept him alive.
this is definitly the most touching film of all time because everytime me or anyone i know whatches this we just want to curl into a ball and cry because of wilson. anyone else think that?
Listening to this score reminds me of when my parents and I went to see this movie in theaters. I was a young boy (only 8), but I remember what emotions it brought out of me at the time. And now looking back I can say that those were some of the happiest times of my life. Now Dad is gone and life is so much more difficult, but I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise.... Who knows what the tide could bring?
I think about this wonderful movie every day. I love the music, just as I was in awe of Chuck Nolan's decision to try and survive. The last few minutes of this movie, after Kelly says, "You're the love of my life" are heart wrenching. What a disappointment that Tom Hanks did not win the Oscar for this film. He was magic. And yes, so was Wilson.
Man this movie made me cry when he loses Wilson and when he gets back homa and also loses Kelly. Man just by hearing this song i am crying now. Nice man thnx it makes me reflect on some things about life. And again thnx man. Ican't really apreciate how much just for posting this song. :'( "I'm sorry wilson, i'm so sorry, WILSON!!!! WILSON!!!!!
I, too, remember being in the theatre and just sitting afterwards. Not one person got up to leave- the entire theatre was brought to tears. I cried from the moment Wilson was washed away to the end. It still brings me to tears when I watch it....
Trying to find the significants between Wilson and Kelly's picture that kept Chuck Noland sane. The whale played sort of like a Protector and informant (if you will). and every time he loses something or overcomes a hurdle that beautiful music is played by Mr. Hans Zimmer. This movie never gets old. I love it.
I saw the movie at some point in 2001-ish. I fell in love with the movie in early 2003 when I was stationed in Korea. I identified with the isolation so much. This is quite possibly one of my favorite movies ever.
Does anyone notice how the theme alternates between music and the waves at the island? I've always believed this represented Hank's character's mind at the end. Alternating between his new life and yet never being able to escape the island, in his mind.
If you ever feel down like You don't have much in life, just go watch this movie and even though you can tell that he has sadness in him at the end when he's sitting with his friend you can tell he has a new appreciation for little things that we all take for granted every day "Now I'm back.. I'm sitting here talking to you.. I have ice in my glass" ICE IN YOUR GLASS! something so trivial, yet many aren't fortunate enough to have even that!
First heard this track on the trailer of Cinderella Man. Beautiful song. So touching and warm when you hear it. Then I saw where it came from: my favourite movie Cast Away. I watched it when I was P4. When the movie ended everyone in class was crying. This movie was lovely.
There are some songs and movies that haunt a person. This is one of those rare times you have both. Many people cant recognize the quiet genius of this movie. A movie that can cause so much emotion with almost no speech is magic to me.
When I saw Cast Away, it was the greatest movie i've ever seen. The movie was so emotional that I felted sadness and joy inside of me....all I can do is bring out manly tears into my eyes. This song........*sniff* it is very...very emotional ;( "WILSOOOOOON"
i own this movie and every time i watch it theres a always a tear that will slip its a beautiful song and very emotional this movie is what love is about he lived because she was in his heart.
One of my favorite movies. Tom Hanks plays this part amazingly. When he loses Wilson your heart jsut goes out to him as that is what truly kept him alive.
The Castaway film means a lot to me, more than I can say. The music seems to convey a lonliness a solitude that touches my soul deeply, I have made the music my own. Life at the moment, has taken some turns that have made me think deeply. I'm a writer and poet my motive is to get others in touch with their feelings. I know that feelings can sometimes be wrong, but feelings that stem from beauty, wonder, love, evocative serenity and especially meloncholy music usually make us better people.
Tom Hanks is the best actor in my opinion, he plays his characters with so much emotion! Every single film he made were touching and amazing! I hope he is able to make other great films before he passes.
this is a chill out tune.. if im feelin low or down ill pop this on and it makes u realy think. and blocks out any shit thats going on in ur life. classic!
Oh my gosh i love this movie. I've seen it so many times and yet, each time watch, I never cease to burst into tears. When that happens, I know I'm watching something good, because only a few movies can make that happen to people. =*) WILSON!!!!
"I'm so sad I don't have Kelly... But I'm so greatful that she was with me on that island... And now I've lost her all over again..." I cried when I heard that part... It's weird, I've never cried at a movie before. These kinds of movies never bother me. But I cried when I heard this part. I just let all my tears go. True love never dies. You know you love someone when you let them go so they can be happy, and have a happy life.
when you think about it...tom hanks is an incredible actor. He shows emotion like no other. in 3 of his best movies(forrest gump, saving private ryan, cast away) you sincerely and honestly feel sorry for his character. he makes it seem so real. Def. One of my fave actors.

No puede existir otra banda sonora que pueda haber acompañado mejor a esta pelicula, siendo ésta simple pero que te hace reflexionar y te envuelve en una clase de tristeza que despues se convierte en ánimo para seguir adelante. Just a great line.

what is it about this combination of sounds that triggers such a powerful emotional response???? wow!
Literal perfection scoring this beautiful film. As only Sylvestri could - with such insight and sensitivity.
One of the best movies I've ever seen.
Daniel Foley Same
I felt so sad when Wilson "died." That's how you know this man is one of the best actors of our time. He made me feel his pain over losing Wilson.
Quball Productions when I watched this for the first time, I managed to hold my tears in until I went to bed.

Thank you! What a beautiful thing to write.

Such an emotive soundtrack. Superb. Tears in my eyes.
Beautiful work! Silvestri caught the very "soul" of this film.
It's amazing how sound can manipulate you into emotions that are only possible by equal action.
that's a quote my friend :)

This music reminds me of long summer days spent at the beach with my children many years ago.

very well said, in a way of the naming of the soccer ball, it gives us a reprieve from thinking of being all alone.
The score was beautifully written
Thanks friend, I see that you really understood what it meant to him when he lost the volleyball ...

One of my favorite films of all time
great song, great movie, one of my all time favorites, the movie and theme song have a sad vibe to it.

My last sheet of paper towels I used to blow my nose listening to this just now, there is no better way to end a roll of paper towels.
I just learnt to play this on the violin.

What a great movie and a very moving ending.
There were 3 Wilsons, I met one in a North Holloywood Paint store, that mixed colors for the studios.
@OwnageClips and within 25 minutes, it already has 100+ more views. Truly, this piece is moving, inspiring, and reaffirms something basically good in people.

I like the repeating ending sounds.
They were relaxing
To all those who think that when people who cry over the loss as simple as a volleyball is kind of pathetic, what would you do over the course of 5 years being totally alone on a island? Better yet, what would you do in a situation as in the movie, Alive? When I go hiking alone, I tend to find a part of me I lost in all that cluster f*** we call society. All in all, what is it that's missing from your life, do some soul searching, find you, no one else will.
I honestly beleive that the sadest aspect of this movie is that two people were separated by fate....no drifting apart, no lies nor scandals, no arguments, just the untimely severence of two people destined to live out there lives together.
I recently watched this movie and I was so lost, didn't know what i was gonna do in life and that life was meaningless for me. I didn't want to keep going. This BEAUTIFUL Song it brings me longings
No! Wilson is all you need to survive! Long Live The Legend of Wilson, the greatest volleyball to ever exist in history.
There are things of which we may not speak;
There are dreams that cannot die;
There are thoughts that make the strong heart weak,
and bring a pallor to the cheek,
And a mist before the eye.
And the words of that fatal song come over us
like a chill--
Your will was the winds will,
And the thoughts of youth are long, long thoughts. Longfellow
Tom Hanks at the crossroads in the end not knowing which path to choose then he looks directly into camera and you can here this song it always makes me cry.
Makes me cry when he loses Wilson 2 awww.
@btlfn723 Those were my subconscious thoughts... and you put them together well.
The reason Cast Away makes us so emotional is because of how much we pity Tom Hanks' character. It's sad when people die in other movies, but it doesn't affect us all that much. The whole time someone watches the movie they feel bad. Hanks is alone on the island. Wilson comes into the picture, and he at least has a companion. We watch him talking to it, and it's heartbreaking to see such a broken man. When he loses his only friend, watching him weep and apologize is pathetic. We feel for him.
This song and movie sums up my life
I always get goosebumps, and get really emotional, when the strings come in at 0.35
great movie,thx for upload
lost in a sea of sadness in tides of loneliness, to know that no other human can feel as I do, no other has my soul or my heart to understand and heal me. And yet to be castaway is no bad thing for then I may come to know who I really am in wisdom. Sorrow will come and past loves will haunt my mind and dreams. To bear all the pain of the world, it's sufferings will it cleanse me? Will it let happiness pervade over me like an angel? How can this muse of music make me more human? And yet it does.
The theme to Heat is great too! One of those epic scores.
very moving!! it breaks you heart.
