I’m 68, and I can’t believe I used to watch this every week, in 1962 and 63. I remember it being one of my favorite shows on TV. Our standards then weren’t ruined by CGI.
The work being given to those cannot be replaced with hot air like cgi!
Ditto Friend
😅😊
I shared it with me dad and he remembered it clearly n all,
I’m still crying at the intro song and character linguistics.
69 here “ditto “
This was my favourite show as a child ,I'm 65 and still remember it,as it preseeded the Thunderbirds. 😊
It preceded Fireball XL5 and Stingray, too! I'm 66 now, but I remember being enthralled with this as a little kid.
Don't forget Diver Dan.
MeToo im 65 used to watch this when iwas a kid also great Saturday mornings in he 60
You’re younger than me, I also loved this programme ( also,I think we just had black&white TV back then?)
I'm 62 and I never saw this show. I bet I would have loved it as a kid. But where we lived, we were lucky to get two TV channels - depending on the weather, sometimes we could only get one clearly.
This takes me back 60 something years. One of my favorite shows as a kid. My number one favorite was "The Whirlybirds". Chuck and PT were my heroes. Thank you UA-cam !
. s
Man, you and me both...on both counts. LOVED the Whirlybirds, but Supercar was IT. I wanted one SO bad. Looking back, it's hysterical. I thought it was the sleekest machine I ever saw. Now it looks like a '57 Chevy Bel Aire with wings. LOL. Still love Supercar...and Mike Mercury's eyebrows!
I know what you mean. I was glued to this show back then and I remember having the Little Golden Book as well. The older I get, the further back to my childhood my minds wants to go 🙂
Leonardo invented whirlybirds. You must be over 21. Regards Dave.
@JJJLlL Sea Hunt with Loyd Bridges was my inspiration to try SCUBA diving 🤿 👍🏻
Im 72 yrs.old and I used to watch this as a kid way back in early 60's, I would hurry up with my homework when I got home from school just to be allowed to watch it ,thank you for posting this, brings back such good memories of a very different lifestyle, a gentler world.
70 here, the theme song always psyched me up. I still remember the lyrics. Space Patrol, Fireball XL5, Stingray, and Thunderbirds are Go. I watched them all! Oh and Captain Scarlett.... " this is the voice of the Misterons".
Developed in the UK in 1961...it was first shown in the US in January 1962...it became the #1 kids show in the NY area...then in 1963 it was being shown in more than 140 markets. Loved this as a kid back in '63. CLASSIC!!!
I completely concur with your admiration of my childhood classic television show.
Most satisfactory !
0:55 the copyright says 1960...maybe the titles were made in 1960?
First aired 28th January 1961.
I used to watch it in 62 and 63 in LA. Probably on KTLA channel 5.
I liked Diver Dan with the smoking fish
This was a favorite show when I was a very young boy in the early 1960"s. There was also Stingray, Fireball XL5, Davey and Goliath, Gumby, Captain Kangeroo, Capt Delta (CA) and then my favorite show in the latter1960s STAR TREK! I am 65 now. Found memories of childhood.
No Thunderbirds?
Yea what about Thunderbirds are go! Special effects were great. Your all forgetting Space Patrol. I saw it tody on u tube.
Caption Scarlett, the misterons.
*I was a little boy when I enjoyed watching Supercar show on TV back in the early 60's. It just made me homesick watching it over again now in 2023. Thank you for uploading it.*
Im 70 i watched this every week here in commiefornia this show is still great cant say the same for my state but this helps cheers !!
I remember watching this on a very small TV. Fab stuff. In my late 60's now but takes me back. More please.
Life's short... I was 8 years old, feels like yesterday
Jeeze, yes, I remember this, it was sooo real to a four year old , I really believed that the car existed.
@@serberious , Of course, it will exist, just not yet
I am 71Tad. Bet I had a smaller TV than you. Spread the word, mature geysers are worth gold. Thanks Dave
@@davidhewson8605 agree, agree, agree
I’m in the UK and lived near a town called Slough. There was an industrial estate called Slough Industrial Estate. Next to a side road , Dover Road, over a railway line was the long single story building where all these were made
I was 7 and with a couple of friends we used to sit on the bridge road embankment and look down into the building. We saw Fireball XL5 being pulled on wires across a moon like table. We were lucky once when Silvia Anderson came out with some drinks for us. She explained that they would have to put blinds up at the windows because of the light
We never got to see in again but for a few weeks we did. I didn’t realise we were watching history
How cool. My Dad was stationed at RAF Chicksands near Bedford from '63 to '66. Loved this show, The Thunderbirds, and the rest. Sure do miss some great fish and chips from our mobile chippy in the Putnoe section of Bedford. Yanks can't make them for sh*t.
@@TheClyde-v3f To be fair it's not in their DNA. Great fish and chips is a British institution.
@@topgazza Agreed. I spoke to a gentleman from England several years ago and he told me his father ran a chippy in a small town near Nottingham and that the fish and chips are not what they used to be there either nowadays. He said his Dad used beef drippings to cook the fish and chips in originally and when everyone went bonkers about cholesterol etc, he switched, like everyone else, to vegetable oil and things were never the same. I'd say he nailed it. French fries in the States were much better back when everything was cooked in lard for the most part.
What a fabulous memory!
@@TheClyde-v3fAnd better for you too than seed oils! Delicious!!
For me, these tv shows were a very special programs when I was a child. I build my own scale collection Supercar. My fascination for the science began with this kind of programs. Thanks to Garry Anderson Productions for these tv shows series on 60's. Now I'm a 66 years old retired Aeronautical Engineer and Astronomer. Greetings from Mexico.
never seen or heard of this! I'm 51 and THIS is a treasure!!!
I never heard of it either! Packed full of humour and fantastic characters!
Of all the 60s shows I remember, I think this one was the best. I remember others too - Fireball XL5, Davey & Goliath (Goliath was a dog) ohhhh, such memories!!
Davey and Goliath! Great show and one of my favorite things was his father's jeep.
@@thejerseyj5479 Ooooooo Davey !
67.. born 56…I remember this like it was on last night. Crazy.. I really enjoyed reliving such a purely innocent way of life.. we’ve lost so much as a culture.. something as simple as this is lost.. bad parents.. not mine though.. my parents were a Blessing..
Good to know that Mike Mercury could solve the engine problem by "turning it off and on again".
Had the toys, loved the show, but I was 5 years old then. It must be 60 years since I've seen this. Thanks for posting - it stands up much better than I expected.
That’s what they always tell us to do with our school bus whatever the issue is when we call in to base . 😆
"Have you unplugged the cord from the wall, waited 30 seconds & plugged it back in"? THE BEGINNING of every call to techinal support. UGH!
This, Stingray and Fireball XL5 were my favourites as a toddler. My dad bought me the Supercar LP for Xmas - I still have it too!
I was almost ten years old when our family console television cathode ray tube TV Set showed this gem.
To this day I still want my Super Car !
Johnny Lightning made one back in the '00s.
@@mattfarahsmillionmilelexus , I’m still trying to find out who is Johnny lightning and let me see their car
None of us forgot Supercar! What a great show! You have to be about 65 to truly appreciate it. I still remember the show when Supercar gets stuck on the ocean floor and Mike gets worried about getting his feet wet! Luckily they got the problem fixed. I remember the name Dr Beaker too! Great stuff!
I remember watching "Supercar" when I was in the third grade--and that's 1962-3! The boys in my class would talk about the episodes.
Ah, the nostalgia! . . .
I used to love this show too when I was a young kid. Things were so much simpler back then and we were very happy kids.
This has the most hi-tech intro of any show I've ever seen, it's classic 1950's - 60's TV at its best.
Well I’m amazed! I watched this show as a kid. I’m now 68 and still found it thrilling and exciting. Love the characters, the story and every minute of it. 😊
I was a kindergartner maybe first grader when this show was on, I loved it. What a blast from the past.
I was so enamored of this show when I was a kid. Its awesome to be able to watch it again.
I was almost ten years old when our family console television cathode ray tube TV Set showed this gem.
To this day I still want my Super Car !
Shortly proceeded by Fireball XL5 - ! 😊
Remember playing with my super car plastic model in the bath ,,, will be 67 in June ,, where have the years gone 😮
At school, the day after this would air every 2nd & 3rd grader would spend our recess excitedly critiquing all the finer points of the previous night's broadcast. We were in the US but close enough to Canada that the CBC was our fourth channel. Supercar was it!
Just came across this brought a lump to my throat . If I could go back to them days I would in a heartbeat.
This looks dated to many people, But to me, Its timeless Television from a wonderful time in my young life.
Couldn’t agree more Rob! Great days!👍
@@reetpateet8656 Absolutely they were ! maybe that's why I'm always on here, watching these old gems !
Doesn’t look dated to me. Ahead of our time!
Great to see again. Being born in 58 this is the first kids programme I remember.
👍
The show was great, it would come on Sunday morning in Detroit, I'm 65.
The opening theme is still with me 60 years on.
Me too, man. Every time I crank it UP!
I'm 68 and I watched this series on "Major Astro," a local kids' show in Wichita, KS, every weekday afternoon at four o'clock.
I can see the stings, now that ..I'm 50years old,now wow..I was born in the year of 1973.but,I remember,I watched this when I got older.i love puppets.❤ Even if they are operating by fish wire.😂❤thank u for the memories ❤
Que recuedo !! A principio de los años 70 se lo podia ver en ARGENTINA ,como lo disfrute .!!!
Appointment TV for me when I was 10 years old. I was surprised when it disappeared after just a couple of years, at least where I lived. 60 years have gone by since I last saw it - it never showed up in syndication. I suppose not enough episodes were produced. When I saw the thumbnail on my feed, the theme song immediately came to mind, and I remembered most of it. I hate to be positive, but I love UA-cam for being a vehicle to bring back the entertainment of my childhood.
I used to watch this far out show at a friend's house because my family didn't have a tv... Saturday mornings in the 60s was fun time for kids in America...
I watched Supercar religiously when I was a kid (I'm 67 now). I actually bought the series on DVD several years ago. I still love it!
I lived in England from '63 to '66. Watched this religiously as I did The Thunderbirds. We were stationed at RAF Chicksands near Bedford. What I would give for a big order of fish and chips from out mobile chippy in Putnoe.
That Supercar theme song beats them ALL. And every TV show had some kickass theme music by the 70s with full on orchestras...But NOTHING is better than SUPERCAR!! I was lucky enough to find a Supercar Little Golden book years ago. 👍👍👍👍 My love for Supercar has to come from growing up outside Detroit with a GM tech designer dad & seeing concept car designs & new cars not in production yet such as the 67 Camaro drawn on the formica dining room table. Having muscle cars as the family vehicle such as a Corvette in 57 & then the Camaro then the 70 SS Chevelle in the driveway being souped up to 500HP might have something to do with it. MORE POWER, CAPTAIN!!😁
I don't remember this although I was 2 at the time, I guess it never made re-runs. Excellent programme and would have been inspiring to many with its technical details and terminology. I have always credited the Andersons with my interest in all things space, and technical. Loved it...
This was a masterpiece; years ahead of its time when compared to other children's tv puppet shows, and not many years after Muffin the Mule, which was very basic indeed. OK, it seems clumsy now, but back then...... I can just remember 'Four Feather Falls', which may have inspired 'Toy Story's Woody. Thanks for bringing this back to life........
Man the Brits had some great TV shows!
We still do! :0)
Loved this show as a child still do. Cool art form
This has its own charm to it, I love these early shows. In many ways better than today’s over done and ridiculous CGI.
Far better.
It's like a house that has character. It really means crap. Not charming
I’m 69, Remember watching these in the ‘60s ! Later were super fabulous while high on substances!!
Thanks for posting! I loved that show when it was on. All the different characters and Mitch. So endearing the way they walked. I'm 74 now and still remember the plots. Such a good show.
I'll be 75 on Tuesday (10 December) and I loved this as well.
I, too, loved the show, the characters and the storylines. But I was fascinated by the puppetry, especially the way they walked. I like the show still
I'm 70 this month I loved super car when I was a kid
Same age as you and remember this as well. A bye gone era. Bless
I too, loved this show as a child! Infact, I loved all of the Gerry Anderson puppet series. The models and special effects team were world class, some of the creative team later going on to work on the Bond movies. Supermarination indeed!👏💖
There's an important lesson here for civilian pilots. When you take your little brother flying leave the darn ape at home. He'll only make things worse throwing the emergency supplies overboard. 😂
Hee hee -- this is why I never brought my buddy Bonzo along when I was flight instructing. The squirrel, sure, but no monkeys. 😉
That is to funny!,
Mitch bad.
Good advice!
SPOILER ALERT damn it!
Would never have been as cool with "Human" actors, the voices are amazing and the facial features are priceless, wonder who they based the characters on?
My family bought me every "Supercar" toy (two, I think) available. I had no idea that any episodes still existed.
I don't remember seeing this show. Earliest I remember was Fireball X-L5, also created by Gerry Anderson.
I was a member of the Super Car club. Wish I still had that little wallet that held the membership card 60 years later.
I used to watch it religiously from the first episode till the last when I was a little kid! They must have reached transferred the old film and cleaned it up digitally because this is an amazing good copy. Extra thanks to the production company that did this
I forgot how over the top the faces were in this programme. The days of Joe 90, Fireball XL5, Stingray (brilliant,) and the excellent Thunderbirds. a 5year olds dream in 1962.
I used to love the sound when it was flying fast, had a fairly big plastic (polythene?) toy of Supercar at the time, bet it would be worth a fortune now! And when they were firing up the engines somebody used to say "interlock on", that sounded so damn exciting!😃👍
I never heard of this show until now. Pretty good production values, considering it was all done on a budget of about $4.92.
Yeah but you could buy a house for $4.00 in 1962, see?
@@pauljefferies9087 No, you couldn’t. But you could buy a cheap house in some places for $4000.00
I agree. Those sets have a lot of technical detail, and look pretty darn good!
Excellent! Thanks 🙏
Always loved this show. I remember my parents gave me a Mike Mercury doll. As soon as they released this and Fireball XL5 of DVD I grabbed both box sets.
😮 I’m 67 … this was the best thing ever when I was kid
Gerry and Sylvia Anderson masterpieces!
Still fantastic 60 years later
Not only did I watch Supercar but I had the toy model as well. It's probably worth a million dollars today in the box . . .
That could possibly be the best song about a car -- ever.
I vaguely remember this. As with the Thunder birds The puppetry always facinated me.
Rather cool to see again. 😉
Thank you for posting , brings back memories from a small child
Mike Mercury is horribly deformed, and even wearing his Aviator sunglasses at 19:06 can't hide his disfigurement... but that probably gave him the strength of character to do something with his life and become the pilot of Supercar, the marvel of the age. Hooray for Mike Mercury!
And here I thought I was the only one who loved this show! Actually well written, well acted, and a great idea for kids. Just like they make them today...
Hah! TeleTubbies have gender issues..
All Gerry Anderson shows are great.
You are hardly the only person that like this show!
What an incredible innovative idea &, now, iconic.
My favourite has always been Captain Scarlet, when they actually started to look real.
What memories this brings back. One of my favorite shows when I was a kid.
It is great to see that Mercury Man fly again. I used to watch this show as a child. I enjoyed watching the show again.
LOL! I can't believe how riveted we kids were watching this in the early 60s. Wide eyed in fascination at the "futuristic" puppet show. Loved them all, and even further back to Andy Pandy, The Woodentops and Bill and Ben. Kids today go from being toddlers to gaming machines, not much in between, and I bet parents don't read their children bedtime stories or nursery rhymes any more which I find very sad. Kids today seem to be brought up with a laptop on their knees, rather than being allowed to be children.
MIKE MERCURY was the man!
At least the eyebrows were!
This and stingray were awesome, don't get me wrong thunderbirds were good and captain scarlet, Joe 90 and the rest were good too but I can't imagine why hardly anyone remembers this show. I'm glad this has survived.
Thank you. I don’t remember the show as I was 3 at the time. But, this triggers my oldest memories. I can barely remember the characters and I do remember that I really liked this show (along with Roy Rogers)!
The coolest car ever made.😊
Im 68 and remember this like yesterday, prof beaker used to drive me mad with his rambling and i used to shout at tv to get him to speak faster lol.Where have all the years gone?
Loved this show as a kid and vaguely remember having a plastic model of Supercar. Watching it for the 1st time as an adult, I'm wondering at what point do Jimmy and Bill consider eating the monkey? 😮
I was born in 1970 and I remember playing with a supercar type of toy and I was fascinated by the front end of the car.
Good question. Thing is, I don't know if they even had any barbecue sauce. 🙃
Thank you for sharing this !!!!
I have just discovered this! and I'm 57!!! me and my twin bro loved Thunderbirds at 7 or 8 yrs then discovered Stingray later.... I suspect I will watch all episodes of this if I can! 😎
I missed this one. I was born in 1969, but I definitely would've watched it.
I watched this all those years ago. I am a member of the Supercar Club too and I still have my membership card to prove it!
I am 72 now and I loved this show as a kid..quote from one of the episodes " I am a man of few words..well shut up then "..we used our imagination not cgi
I remember Thunderbirds as a kid, but I never saw this, or Supercar. Did not realize they did so many of this type. Thanks for posting.
❤ I remember seeing this on Channel 9 which was a Canadian TV station in Detroit! Waaaaay back in the 60's!
Brilliant! proceeded the ones i watched in the late 1960's!
I'm 70 now and was about 10 when superstar was on. No cardboard box was safe from my scissors and scotch tape as I would make my own toy versions...
One of my favorite shows back than....who remembers Diver Dan.....
Wow! My absolute favourite after school programme as a young kid.
Wow! I was very excited to find this series. I was a big fan of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, so I felt happy as if I had met their eldest son. Marionettes are so cute that I laughed. I love them.
Do you remember that in thunderbirds half the puppets smoked, couldn't do that now😅🎉
I used to pretend to be Dr. Beaker, when I was 4. I adopted the persona to practice without a license. 😅
Loved this as a kid. Check those "giant" gold fish! Haha.
This takes me so far back.
as i got to the scene where Mitch heard something (18:31-18:50), an L. A. P. D. 'copter was flying not too many blocks from my location. just a coincidence i know, but still...
It looks like one of those 1950's futuristic concept cars that we were all supposed to be flying around in by 1980 or so. Where's my flying car?
I loved this show when I was a child
This is amazing. Love it!
Thank you!
haven't remembered most of the lyrics, but have been singing the theme's beginnng to myself for the past few years:
🎶Supercarrr, Supercarrr, duh-Duh-duh-Duh-duh-duh-duh Supercarrr🎶
Supercar. You automatically know that Chrysler, Ford, and GM, had nothing to do with creating something, with the word 'super', in it😏!!! I grew up with shows, such as this (I was born, a year after this), but for some odd reason, our television stations deprived us, of this wonderful, children's show🤨. This is the first time of even, LEARNING 'bout this, let alone, seeing it. So good, I'll tack on to, the 2nd. episode. Thank you for the introduction👍😁!!!!
I'm now 70 but I remember watching this as a 👦 boy
