I ordered the rear brake rotors, they said they fit my 89 firebird formula, but when I got them they are about 2 inches too big and the brake pads that come with them are tiny. The rear rotor, caliper, and brake pads that are on my car look the same as my front ones but the calipers have the ebrake piece on them. The rear rotors look to be the same size as the front rotors. I messaged the seller, waiting on a response. I did however order the front drilled and slotted rotors and calipers you had in another video and those went on perfectly fine and they look great!
@@JRobling I contacted the company and they said that the part numbers that are on the rotors should be for my car. So i can only assume that the previous owner converted my car to rear rotors. I have returned the new ones and now need to measure mine and see what will fit it
I have the same rear end in my 88 RS it came out of a 88 Z28 I couldn’t find the calipers either so a had a local shop acid drop and rebuild the. It was pretty cheap and looked and function like new
I know I’m late. But the third gen trans am/camaros have discs in the front and drums in the back. Also if you noticed, the back left side studs were half the size of the back right side studs
I have a factory posi 2.77 disk brake rear end it came out of a 88 z28 I did some research and they only made them one year and discounted it, you can identify them because the brake face in opposite direction. And it factory the brakes are and Australia original design and nobody make them anymore
So I have owned 3rd gens for 40 years. Done just about anything you can think of to them both Camaro and Firebird. THis is a set of a curiosity questions more than anything else. While helping out a friend of mine he came across your video and it started out simply enough until you arrived at the backing plate. Now here comes the questions,, WHY did you remove the axle if you're doing a brake job??? and since you removed the axle, why did you not change the bearings??? and just to throw in another question, why didn't you change the calipers and bleed the brakes??? I'm probably 100% sure that fluid is black. I take it you did not buy this car new, so there is no telling what she has been through over the years and you had some key components right there in your hand. Look I'm not trying to bash anyone who wants to help someone get through something they don't know about but you did not do a complete brake job and the axle has NOTHING to do with it. For the most part I thought the vid was ok but in the future if you say your going to do something, don't do something else. So since the conversation you had went to the rearend anyway and I'm sure we have some out there that don't know, but the Borg Warner Australian 9 bolt was put in as a replacement axle for SCCA road racing teams and entered our world in 1988. The conventional rearend had problems holding up due to the stress of road racing so our friends from down under provided a solution. As a result of the race car having the equipment, the street car also had the same equipment because you are not allowed to run a race type vehicle in a production class if your street car doesn't exist. This class was known as the SSGT class and the primary car was the 1LE. Some cars came equipped with many of the 1le parts, namely the rearend but in the spirit of creature comfort, most did not get the full package. Just some useless info for some that may want to know
That's a Aussie 9 bolt rear end they don't have a c-clip in the diff. Stronger then 10 bolt
First time I’ve heard that one
Good to know thanks

Sorry to hear that, sounds like the seller messed up the order. Amazon has a really good return policy so you should be good there

@@black91silverado82 That would be a good possibility, people love to swap rear ends on these cars
you have a borg warner 7.75 axle, also called 9 bolt, its a neat thing
No C-clips. Just pull the axle out with a slide hammer or turn an old disk around and hammer the axle out.

good video, very helpful
i have the same set up but my driver side axle is stuck in any ideas why it would be stuck?
I am going to change iron calipers to aluminium calipers on my 9 bolt rear end. HOW do I change the backing plate? is it difficult?
watching
Wheres the installing the brakes?

My trans am 87 GTA is disk rear brake
Joseph Skelton option code J65 have you 4 wheel ABS discs.
My 1984 z28 has rear discs. From my understanding if it came with the HO 305 or a 5 speed it came with 3.73 posi with disc brakes.

good video thank you very much I just picked up a rear caliper from Summit for the fifty bucks
I got my calipers for my 86 z28 at autozone.58 bucks apiece
I did my rear brakes and my e brake still doesn't work. It did not work when I bought it so I'm not sure of the issue
how do you put in the pads?
good luck fixing it ^^

I did all that stuff and broke up the videos, so this one is just for the brakes, I have another for the bearings brake fluid etc.
To take the bearings off you need to cut the doughnut behind the bearing with a chisel and then press them off with a press.
The new rotors what size diameter are they?
No C clips on a 9 Bolt. Looks like you have a 9
For a full brake job video did not see any brake work......WTF
Where the flock is the rear brake video job. Jeez no one cares about the shinny red cover
