I almost had a heart attack from sheer joy when NB broke out into this song at Coachella this weekend, I was screaming the lyrics so loud and jumping up and down that I wanted to cry. What an AH-MAZING set they pulled off, the entire group really giving 100% and really leaving it all out there on the stage! Honestly, I didn't know I could still feel this kind of exhilaration in my 50s. The No Doubt version of Gwen Stefani channels the spirit animal in me to come roaring forth. Honestly, they all performed so well and really gave it their all, but nothing blew me away more than Stefani's gorgeous and powerful vocals. If you've been to Coachella before, you know that dust and wind can be fierce and Coachella Cough is definitely a thing. I don't know how she pulled this off. She must have flow in last minute because she sure was NOT breathing all the find dust from the polo grounds, that's for sure. Sparkling vocal performance!

No Doubt was huge in the 90's, but little did we know that that was Gwen Stefanis humble beginnings. She's a fucking powerhouse of a person and 100% dedicated to her craft
i remember rocking out to this back in the day when it first came out. I was younger and really just getting my groove on.But I actually sat down and listened to the lyrics a few days ago and this has become one of my favorite songs. I think the lyrics are really brilliant honestly. I wonder what encouraged her to write them! I have always been a Gwen fan, still am. LOVE HER!
Lisa Johnson I just read that she was inspired to write this song after an incident where her father got mad at her for driving by herself late at night. It's definitely a feminist anthem about women being independent and not needing to be "protected" all the time. She said about this song; “ I wrote that because my dad got mad at me for going to Tony’s house and driving home late at night. I mean, c'mon, I’m, like, going on 30 here! " -Gwen Stefani
The lyrics were utter rubbish... They won't "let her have any rights," WTF is she talking about, she's in a bad touring and doing whatever the f*ck she wants???
As someone living with sexual trauma, these lyrics came at a perfect point when my crying, feeling like it's my fault, turned to screaming, knowing it theirs. I still listen to it pretty frequently, and it's one of the only songs that makes me feel heard. Thank you.
i remember seeing no doubt as basically an “unknown” band and was blown away as a kid, and though i’m sure they were already on their way up, to see them blow up throughout my childhood was dope, just kinda wish she brought her band with her into her broader fame. I understand they had their own beef and issues, though i wish they could’ve continued to make music like this
Is it fr? I mean, I believe a lot of trends are on cycle anyway. Bc I read i.net comments & look at ppl around my age, & think sh like ," 🤔I don't think we exactly have the same beliefs. Why are they always hating on the younger folks? Did I dress just as crazy? Did they not eventually have kids? 💡 My nieces..." Think back to ish like this & I'm like yeah, I guess ...they have a point. I did cover myself up a lot more. Even in public. But like, do you still not have dress codes :/...? Lol, I ironed letters on tank tops. But I did show off my tummy sometimes. Just a bit... & Wore a lot of jerseys. And factory worker shirts. Bc ppl said I stuffed my bra. And I copied Korn's style (hair, but when I was out of hs). Michelle Branch (dress over jeans, out of hs). And a whole lotta other randomness. But that's ok tho., Bc at least Tre Cool likes my style. I grew up in the suburbs. I was really trying emphasize that individuality... Im pretty sure a lot of females wore white tanks and black strapped bras. Although, once I did get in trouble for not wearing a bra :/. I didn't actually put that much like perverse thoughts into it. It's just my mom kept buying my lace bras, & they were itchy af. - 90s kid right hurrr:/ 🙋

Honestly... being a "pretty," female-presenting person can be exactly that. I used to think about sexual assault every. Single. day, and it's never even happened to me! When the world is safer for women and girls, EVERYONE will have less to be anxious/depressed about 🤞🏾
This is what I like to call my "rage song." I just cry, and scream the lyrics because so many of my problems boil down to me just being a girl, and I relate to EVERY SINGLE LINE🥲
This album “Tragic Kingdom” is to me one of the all time greatest albums, ever. Hit after hit after hit and thus becoming/being iconic. I bought the album when it came out in 95’, when I was 25 & because of this song in particular, and was totally blown away, from the beginning till the end. I didn’t know much about “No doubt” previously, as they weren’t known really well here in Australia, so I didn’t have their earlier albums, but this album cemented it for me. I’m now 50 ( f*ck, I’m getting old!) I was and always will be a HUGE fan of No Doubt. Gwen and the band are iconic. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ always
@@nandini8814 Well she was dating Tony Kanal for quite some time who’s of indian descent, so I think she had her own legit reasons to do that, and in that case it’s more of cultural appreciation rather than appropriation…
Not really , these days ''men'' are failling over themselves to prove how progressive they are , so 'you' as a woman can't really be sure if you got a position on merit. Back in the 90s if a woman had what was seen as a mans role in life , you knew it was because she had mad skills that paid the bills*. That was my experience with the first few bosses I had ( women who were shit-hot at their jobs ) *Thatcher
Gwen Stefani was just a teenager when No Doubt got rolling. In 1992 they signed a record deal and released an album with Interscope Records but due to poor album sales, the label cancelled plans for additional albums. Undeterred, the band independently released a second album which impressed Interscope Records enough that they suffered FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). The label resigned the band to release their 3rd album in 1995 which became "Tragic Kingdom". "Just A Girl" was the song that broke the band into mass consciousness and its the first song that Gwen solely wrote the lyrics for. It's sarcastic tone and a nod towards an independent attitude for women has been seen as a statement for feminism but in reality, Stefani simply wrote the song in reference to a time when she got in trouble with her parents for sneaking out of the house. The video featuring a cute and vibrant Gwen, went into heavy rotation on MTV after the single was released... and the rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks for sharing. And she went to practice with her band until late at night and her brother wasn't with her so she drove back home alone late at night form LA to Fullerton. And her parents were mad at her and that's when she noticed that it was only because she was a female.
I’m not trying to be an asshole. But a lot of this information isn’t true. Gwen And Tom wrote Just a Girl, the only songs Gwens wrote on her own for ND are Simple kind of life and Suspension without Suspense. The second album The Beacon street collection was a fuck you to interscope. They where never dropped from interscope. Turned over to TRAUMA in 95 then that subdivision of interscope closed then Just a girl was off the 3rd album Tragic Kingdom. I could keep going and going
Can be a statement for feminism towards her parents too ... Im a farmersdaughter and in opinion of my mother and grandparents im not capable to have a farm. I would need a husband for it ... Parents are sometimes the ones who treat you wrong

Thats awesome :) always nice when a song has a super personal meaning to someone just like that
Absolutely amazing. 22 years later and still relevant. And still catchy as hell.

No Doubt was huge in the 90's, but little did we know that that was Gwen Stefanis humble beginnings. She's a fucking powerhouse of a person and 100% dedicated to her craft
Praise her!
Hell fukin yea she is!
So funny, I told my daughter a couple of weeks ago that in my next life I wanted.
Come back as Geen
And thank God for her brother Eric Stefani for pushing his little sister to be a singer.
This song The lyrics were so good. I wish she continued to make music that actually had meaning
This song still resonates so well, one of the best albums of all time
i remember rocking out to this back in the day when it first came out. I was younger and really just getting my groove on.But I actually sat down and listened to the lyrics a few days ago and this has become one of my favorite songs. I think the lyrics are really brilliant honestly. I wonder what encouraged her to write them! I have always been a Gwen fan, still am. LOVE HER!
love no doubt. it reminds me of simpler times. I'm getting older, but still young at heart. I found a picture of me from 1999. I was so young looking.
Lisa Johnson I just read that she was inspired to write this song after an incident where her father got mad at her for driving by herself late at night. It's definitely a feminist anthem about women being independent and not needing to be "protected" all the time.
She said about this song;
“ I wrote that because my dad got mad at me for going to Tony’s house and driving home late at night. I mean, c'mon, I’m, like, going on 30 here! " -Gwen Stefani
Lisa Johnson @@@
The lyrics were utter rubbish... They won't "let her have any rights," WTF is she talking about, she's in a bad touring and doing whatever the f*ck she wants???
@@kelkil79 oh shut up. Women don’t have rights in many countries. She’s talking about being a woman generally
i’m glad i started binge listening to all gwen’s songs
I could listen to this song eternally
Beautiful! I love her energy! Those facial expressions are priceless!!!
Do you guys remember owning Tragic Kingdom as a CD? Man, that was the f*cking best.
I want to thank God.Gwen.
I still have Tragic Kingdom and their live concert 🤦🏾♀️
I've still got Tragic Kingdom, it was a great album and takes me back to the 90's.
I have Tragic Kingdom too
I was 16!!! and absolutely loved it!
This, was, and is, one of my fav tracks. Period.
great songs never dies!!!
Legitimately one of the best punk songs of the 90s.
I can't be the only one who would love to see one more No Doubt album!
As someone living with sexual trauma, these lyrics came at a perfect point when my crying, feeling like it's my fault, turned to screaming, knowing it theirs. I still listen to it pretty frequently, and it's one of the only songs that makes me feel heard.
Thank you.
You're so brave, I wish you the best of luck on your journey in life.
I'm so sorry, this made me so sad😣that person will burn in hell! You are so brave and beautiful🌷🫶🏼🫶🏼. You are as beautiful as this song❤️!
Same here, incest from my father .
I can’t believe this hit 100M views just today. No Doubt rules!! 🎉🎉
Captain Marvel made me come back and listen to this absolute bop
same my g
i remember seeing no doubt as basically an “unknown” band and was blown away as a kid, and though i’m sure they were already on their way up, to see them blow up throughout my childhood was dope, just kinda wish she brought her band with her into her broader fame. I understand they had their own beef and issues, though i wish they could’ve continued to make music like this
90's, best decade ever
forever
no doubt about it!! ;)
No 80s best decade ever
80s were the best. 90s were pretty good. Civilization ended in 1999.
American Citizen 2000- 2006 was ok too
This song stil is a HIT, many great covers proves it, from Chile salut, ALONSO
Everything she’s wearing is back in style now. Im ready for it 😎
Me too! I was too young to try to dress like that but this time around, I’m ready!
Beatriz Garcia its hideous
I say, it's not what she's wearing, but how she wears it! Everyone's mileage will vary!!!
You're too fat
Who else is doing a 90s throwback night???
this is 00's throwback not 90
chltmdwp ... this song was released in 1995
MEEEEEEE!
chltmdwp funny since I was listening to this song in the mid 1990s
Says right there in the description that it was copyrighted in 2003
Just watched Captain Marvel yesterday and this sweet song appeared in the movie... such good ol era... seriously miss the 90's
This was made in 2003
@@GreenToMe2000 www.wikiwand.com/en/Just_a_Girl 1995 actually. You obviously weren't born nor grown up in that era
@@ngumax it says 2003 in the description and i wasn't born in that era i was born in 2000 and ive heard this song on the radio when i was 3-5 so idk wat you're talking about "obviously"
It was the 1st single from their album 'Tragic Kingdom' which released in 1995. I was 18 then. So I know.. UA-cam description is shit
Jacq CHL the 90’s is overrated the only thing good about it was the sitcoms, cartoons, and songs
Que grande mis épocas de alternativa jajaja escuchaba toda su música la mejor lejos
I know this song is about female empowerment and stuff but the lyrics are literally how I feel everyday as a person diagnosed with depression and anxiety
Honestly... being a "pretty," female-presenting person can be exactly that.
Gwen said she wrote it when she was afraid to walk home alone and realized how much easier guys have it.

@DruidVW ok?

My favorite song from No Doubt!
Snare Ware guess you can say... there no doubt that it’s your favorite
I love this song so. much
This was the first CD I bought with my own money, I was about 12 when it came out. I still get a smile on my face when I listen to it, to this day.
Me too.
Are you a Millenial ?
Turning 40 and from Finland 🇫🇮 but otherwise pretty much the same 💪🏽
I wish I was born in that generation tbh...
one of the greatest albums ever? bold statement but each to their own.
Love it! She has such a unique voice!
This is so awesome and will never be old.
I love how she did her own makeup, clothes and the style in this video
Did you watch the vogue interview too?? Lol I immediately came back to watch old videos after that
The bindi put me off tho. I'm severely disappointed with Gwen for using an ancient tradition as a fashion statement.
@@nandini8814 Well she was dating Tony Kanal for quite some time who’s of indian descent, so I think she had her own legit reasons to do that, and in that case it’s more of cultural appreciation rather than appropriation…
@@Clara-lh7pj appreciation would be more of the song having desi elements but it doesn’t so it’s still kinda off putting
@@Clara-lh7pj It's literally not related to the music. There's no need to put it in the music video??
When this played in Captain Marvel I got so giddy cause this is one of my top tunes of the 90's

The comments. Looks at them. Full of misogynistic men. Which proves ur point I’m literally just gonna leave earth soon and go to Mars lmfao

@@galek75
I think their mainly at “new comments” then you have to scroll a bit. There’s ppl saying she’s flat and needs to cover up and crap
Not really , these days ''men'' are failling over themselves to prove how progressive they are , so 'you' as a woman can't really be sure if you got a position on merit.
Back in the 90s if a woman had what was seen as a mans role in life , you knew it was because she had mad skills that paid the bills*. That was my experience with the first few bosses I had ( women who were shit-hot at their jobs )

The way she said 💫clear💫 is just TOO MUCH. Sends shivers every time.
I'm so thankful that I grew up in that era of No Doubt. This is song that got me into the band.
The video featuring a cute and vibrant Gwen, went into heavy rotation on MTV after the single was released... and the rest, as they say, is history.
k
Thanks for sharing. And she went to practice with her band until late at night and her brother wasn't with her so she drove back home alone late at night form LA to Fullerton. And her parents were mad at her and that's when she noticed that it was only because she was a female.
Is this Wikipedia now?

I remember when this song and "Hand in my Pocket " were played on Las Vegas radio in the 90's. I started appreciating female artists.
I didn’t realize how much I missed artists having rings in their eyes from those awesome 90s lights.
This song has been with me my entire life. And I don't care what the lyrics are I will sing this at the of my lungs whenever I am able to.
That’s right don’t let nobody tell you anything👏
You should not care what others think of what you like but it does sound a bit messed up to say you dont care about what the lyrics say they are sad and the artist put there pain and soul into the music and feel
@@animelover12261 what I meant by I don't care about the lyrics is the constant repeating of the words I'm just a girl. I'm clearly not a girl but I love singing along to this song.
