50 years ago as a 12 year old I watched that video on BBC1 when it was released...😏 I'm still playing it now..they are the epitome of master musicians, innovators storytellers and all round trippy hippy dudes....❤
I sparked up my bowl to watch another of your reactions to PINK FLOYD....again. I agree with everything you say. I was at the PULSE Show, seen them live 4 times, met the band and have an autographed album. I told Gilmour he is "The Master Of The Stratocaster", he smiled. I shook both his hands at the same time. I asked...."How would you describe your technique for playing guitar".... He replied.... "No one has ever asked me that before, but, I'd say, I strike a note, bend it shake it then release it"... He does that better than any other guitar player I've ever heard.
Nice of you to say to him, and Gilmour is a marvelous guitarist, but before making a "the" master" declaration, remember that Hendrix played a Strat (which is probably why he smiled).
"Strangers passing in the street By chance, two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me" My favourite lyric of all time and also what was at the root of all Roger Water's lyrics, empathy. The thing about Floyd is that all of it's good and the more you hear them the more you "get it", so, it's not surprising that you keep getting blown away. Going to a different place is what progressive rock is all about. The Firth Of Fifth by Genesis will take you to a different place and if you want to experience a different reality, try Yes.
Listening to you talk took me back to 1978 where as a 12 year old I lay on my bed eyes closed listening to careful with that axe eugene and got transported elsewhere. You have discovered music that will stay with you forever. A pleasure to watch your genuine amazement
Crazy how time flies eh,seems like only a few years ago.I was 11 in ‘78, my mom listened to pink Floyd all the time but as a kid,I didn’t really listen to the lyrics until the 80s,then I got it😎
Music comes and goes. Pink Floyd is timeless. I found their tunes in 1973, I am 61 and have listened to every song they made over and over and never tire of the variety.
Amazing isn't it, this performance showcases how good they all are/were, Richard Wright on keyboard sublime, Roger Water bass guitar commanding, Nick Mason's drums mesmerising and David Gilmour on guitar is just stunning, but best of all is the harmony between Richard Wright and David Gilmour, their voices blend so well into one but then become much more than the sum of their parts sort of ethereal in their beauty.
@@jean-yvesmartin6934 Syd had left the band by this time, this was filmed in 1972 and Syd left in 1968, the vocals for this have always been David Gilmour and Richard Wright the harmonies were so important to Dave Gilmour that since Richard's death he never performed Echoes again.
Me and my wife were in Pompeii 9 years ago,we were standing on the very spot where they were setup in the vid,we were the only two people in there,it was pretty cool and serene. Hello from British Columbia 🇨🇦.BTW, it’s the oldest known Roman arena in the world😎
Love how you don’t talk over or pause the music like so many UA-camrs who do these reaction videos do, like you have a real genuine respect for the music you’re listening to. Nothing makes me cringe more than watching someone reacting to a pink Floyd song and they pause the video right before a David Gilmore guitar solo.
An absolutely classic performance. Saw thrm in 75 and 89 but would have loved to have been able to sit in the Italian sunshine and watch this! Nice to see it's still being appreciated decades on.
What I love about music from this era, just 4 guys with their instruments. They could make your emotions run out of control, your hair stand on end and have a psychedelic trip all at once. This is incredible, there are no bells and whistles, fancy lighting or costumes but you can’t take your eyes off them. I mourn the fact that no one these days makes music like this. Computers have taken over everything, not in a good way. And David Gilmour is a Roman God, of course he will play in a Roman amphitheatre.
This is part one but there is a part 2 on UA-cam which you can do later or check out the complete masterpiece live at Gdansk which was the last time it was performed before Richard Wright passed away.
I was excited to see that you reacted this today, because as a newer Floyd fan myself, I just discovered this song and this particular version two nights ago and have been listening to it non-stop since. The whole thing is amazing, but my favorite part is the funky breakdown and David's wailing guitar at the end. It's crazy to think this performance is 50 years old now. These guys were both of their time and way ahead of their time. As for future reactions, I suggest Pink Floyd's Pulse concert's version of 'High Hopes.' It's an incredibly emotional, moving song, in my opinion.
Saw Floyd back in 87 here in the uk,,one of the best shows of my life, ,,glad your digging deep into the Floyd musical history past n present,,enjoy your Floydian experiences,,👍,,,luv your reactions,,,kc,,,👍,,uk,,,peace,,respect always,,,
So many reaction channels are stale and boring...Good to see someone appreciate the true beauty and awesomeness of great art...Love the channel keep it up!
Thank you for your reaction. I’ve heard/watched this video for over 30 years now, and still get the same feeling you got the first time here. Amazing live performance before a crowd of zero, sans the camera crew. Another band that might take you to another world is Emerson, Lake and Palmer. ELP is my other go to “to go out there” band. Check out: Karl Evil 9, 3rd impression, from their Brain Salad Surgery album.
The song that made me a Floydian back in 1972. Every time I went to a record store and was looking through albums the Meddle album called out to me, but I rejected it until I could resist no longer. Everything changed on that day.
This is the video majority of us requested you react to & so cool you decided to play the song. You said it perfectly as to how PF music makes you feel, I’ve been a fan since the 70’s & I still get excited playing their timeless music
Great to see this reaction go back in time and see the syd Barrett years watch astronomy domain you will really will love it the magic they show cased in the early 60's Love your reaction stay true to what takes you to a journey
The lick that starts at 4:04 was lifted by Andrew Lloyd Webber for Phantom Of The Opera. Not the first time he'd done this...I guess he's a Floyd fan, too.
This song was a game changer, a prelude of whats to come from Floyd.... the beginnings of that signature sound. You should react to the studio version next. Trust me on this one.
Welcome back, we missed you. When are you doing 'dogs' and 'hey you'. Infact the whole albums of ' Animals and the wall'. And I hope you do some Roger Waters solo albums.
I was 19-20 when this was recorded/performed. Although I owned "Ummagumma" and "Meddle" and "Atom Heart Mother" this performance SO EPIC! Per "Dark Side of the Moon", I got the SACD more recent box set DVD Audio 5.1 box set since the original was recorded in QUAD (4 channel) listening with 6 speakers is awesome experience!
Great reaction. You remind me of me 53 yrs. ago when I first listen to PF. Please try fit in to your space, "COMING BACK TO LIFE" "HIGH HOPES" and " ONE OF THESE DAYS" from the Pulse concert. All MASTERPIECES !!
You really should have done the complete studio version first. This incomplete live version is great, but the complete studio version is utter perfection. It's one of the greatest 20+ minute pieces of rock music ever made. Listen to it next, and like countless other people before you, your life will never be quite the same again.
back in the 80s seeing "live at pompeii" at the midnight movies was an awesome experience. i recommend "a saucerful of secrets" from the same film. i think i like it even more than "echoes".
This was filmed live in the amphitheater at Pompeii (no crowd, just crew) for release in cinema’s in U.K. Pompeii was a Roman town near what is now Naples on the coast of Italy. In AD 79 the nearby volcano Mt Vesuvius erupted and completely buried Pompeii and Herculaneum under 15 metres of volcanic rock/ash. It was forgotten about until accidentally discovered about 150 years ago, and has since been excavated. I was 14 when this was filmed in about 1972 and I went to see it at the cinema at the time ( I’m 63 now) it was a Sunday night showing just one night only…. I was mesmerised and still love it to this day, Meddle is my favourite Pink Floyd album. I have visited Pompeii and Herculaneum recently and even climbed Vesuvius and peered in ! It’s fascinating and well worth the visit
I'm more partial to "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" at this same concert in Pompeii. Felt like a journey into the deep past and distant future at the same time. Both live tracks are from the "Ummagumma" album. Terrific setting for a show!
Don't do reaction vids but you speak well with such enthusiasm for Pink Floyd. Glad you appreciate them. Their sound is different from Rock&Roll its nearly a different genre. Haunting and unworldly.
Notice rhis is just part 1 of the song. For the Pompeii live filmed performance it was broken into two parts but in the album itself, called Meddle, it is a one single continuous song that lasts 24 minutes. It is Pink Floyd's longest song, it filled a whole side of an LP record. I'm sure you will enjoy the part 2 as well as this it has a strange begining which in the studio version happens at the middle of the song. Echoes is ine of my favorite PF songs. The other i also love so much is Shine On You Crazy Diamonds. That is also a long song, about 23 minutes long, but it was broken into two parts in the album, serving as the begining and end of the album Wish You Were Here, which is where the song of the same name comes from which you enjoyed so much.
Everyone has their own favorite of PinkFloyd! Mine depends on what mood I’m in! I agree with you, Wish you were here is usually my favorite but I’ll flip depending on my mood! 😂❤❤❤
glad to saw them 1987 and on the pulse tour. waters twice on the wall und the tour before. gilmour with wright on keyboards on the 'on an island' tour. and waters on 'the wall live in berlin 1990' concert with 500.000 others. beautiful memories!
The black strat guitar Dave Gilmour used here was sold for $4 million at a charity auction a few years ago. It was an iconic guitar used on Floyds best masterpieces incl Dark Side of the Moon.
In my opinion, the most beautiful guitar solo of all time Pink Floyd created with "Comfortably Numb", but the power and the evocative and emotional force of "Live at Pompeii" are unsurpassed. Pink Floyd like Mozart: immortal, light years away from anyone else.
Early Yes takes one on a journey as does the rock jazz fusion band Steely Dan , Traffic , others. Enjoy the journey , it guided many of us through the 70s
Dave Gilmour commented one time that this song was Rick Wright ( keyboard ) and him talking to each other. By far the best and last time Dave & Rick did this song was at "gdansk" a must watch ( 25 minutes). .Rick die shorty after. Dave said he will NEVER play it again. Dave came back 'solo" to Pompeii and played in front of an audience ( first time since 79 AD with people) at the Amphitheatre. watch any video from " live at Pompeii" some Floyd some solo. He plays " blackie" . a black strat modified with using only 2 pick-ups. sold at auction for $3.9 million without the Jimi Hendrix guitar strap xxxxx.
So good. You should also check out the studio version though, with the rest of it, since this is really just the first half of the song. All that said, though, this is still amazing.
I've already told my wife and kids to play A saucerful of secrets from the Pompeii gig at my funeral , to ease me on my journey to meet my loved ones that have gone before me .
Well done...there's part 2 as follow up...but don't miss" Saucerfull of Secrets" and "One of these days" to get a full immersion into their unique technique of using instruments
You get it! Pink Floyd is the best. I've seen them live 19 times. The whole band 3 times, David, Rick & Nick 13 times and Roger 3 times. Every time was wonderful & moving. But Dark Side of the Moon tour in 1974 was the best with Echoes as the encore.
I believe that's only half of the song though. By the way......there's a story about a couple of guys who were backpacking.....& stumbled across Pink Floyd when they were out there filming. They were kind of out there in the middle nowhere. But the band allowed them to hang out & listen. So they did have an audience of 2.
@@Rockmusicpodcast Part 2 is hard to find on UA-cam....( or it HAS been in the past ), but it's on the album. I have a DVD of the entire concert, which was all filmed out there in that amphitheater.
This is very old classic on your own time check out the version David gilmour from the concert remember that night one of the last performances with Richard wright . It’s a more updated version
you should do part 2 of this song :D the whole song is about 24 minutes long and this is just part one. THE WHOLE SONG (like the whole 24 minutes) is the best non-drug trip ever.
I got this years ago on a rental VHS, and it so great from beginning to end. They also showed behind the scenes studio stuff from Dark Side of the Moon. Recommend it.
Thank you for your reaction, and for not listening to others and enjoying this without the sake of 'recreational mood enhancers'. I have always said that you don't need drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd, because their music IS the drug. I appreciate your youthful exuberance over my favorite group. Looking forward to watching Part II with you. Also, please check out my favorite version of one of their concert staples, back in the day, which is Careful With That Axe, Eugene, off the same concert: Live At Pompeii: ua-cam.com/video/Y6VKhA2hz0g/v-deo.html Rock on!
Hey check out, High Hope's, Keep Talking or One of These Days from Pulse or the audio version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, you can't go wrong with Floyd.
And let me add that this was "back in the day" when there were no "music videos". These guys were pioneers on so many levels... but nobody else quite caught up. ;)
You should watch a few documentaries on this band. "Which One is Pink?" is a great one, and also there is the Making Of the albums Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. "Behind the Wall" is another good one. How they originally formed and changed over the years, as well as how the music itself evolved, will likely stun you.
50 years ago as a 12 year old I watched that video on BBC1 when it was released...😏 I'm still playing it now..they are the epitome of master musicians, innovators storytellers and all round trippy hippy dudes....❤

Well done...there's part 2 as follow up...but don't miss" Saucerfull of Secrets" and "One of these days" to get a full immersion into their unique technique of using instruments
"Wow!" Pretty much says everything that needs to be said about this song and this performance.
You get it! Pink Floyd is the best. I've seen them live 19 times. The whole band 3 times, David, Rick & Nick 13 times and Roger 3 times. Every time was wonderful & moving. But Dark Side of the Moon tour in 1974 was the best with Echoes as the encore.
2 of my favorite songs by Pink Floyd, Shine on You Crazy Diamond and Dogs- I highly recommend
I believe that's only half of the song though. By the way......there's a story about a couple of guys who were backpacking.....& stumbled across Pink Floyd when they were out there filming. They were kind of out there in the middle nowhere. But the band allowed them to hang out & listen. So they did have an audience of 2.
Damn I didn’t know that
@@Rockmusicpodcast Part 2 is hard to find on UA-cam....( or it HAS been in the past ), but it's on the album. I have a DVD of the entire concert, which was all filmed out there in that amphitheater.
I feel you Buddy ❤ thx
Hey guys check out my pateron I got some great videos I know u will love on their Patreon.com/rockmusicpodcast
Watch Echoes Pompeii part 2,it’s even better.
One of these days Pink Floyd Live Pulse.
Nevermind, I see you did part 2 :D
Cateful with that Axe eugene the same gig it's a mind bender
You got it brother great reaction
Definitely go back to this album and check out, "Saucerfull of Secrets"
There's a part two to this. Dogs and Shine On You Crazy Diamond are on the same level as what you've heard. They have dozens of great songs.
Also, please check out my favorite version of one of their concert staples, back in the day, which is Careful With That Axe, Eugene, off the same concert: Live At Pompeii:

Rock on!
So young. I've always had a crush on David!
David Gilmour returned to Pompeii in 2016, give that a listen... he rocks at the age of 70!,,
Awesome reaction man
I always think Organic, with pink floyd. Yes, before their time. But also a feeling of getting back to root's and nature of it all.
Best band ever. period.
Pink Floyd ..?? Thé english miracle ..and you have beautiful hairs ..!!!
Knew that you would love this one of my favourites
Hey check out, High Hope's, Keep Talking or One of These Days from Pulse or the audio version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, you can't go wrong with Floyd.
And let me add that this was "back in the day" when there were no "music videos". These guys were pioneers on so many levels... but nobody else quite caught up. ;)
Perhaps it's time for Shine on you Crazy Diamond? Either the album version (without the distracting animation) or live at Knebworth.
Best time for rock music we’re the seventies when everything began.
