    We all loved Phil Taylor, but Mickey was like a fucking machine behind the kit. He was perfect for Motorhead and I think his stability behind the kit unleashed Phil Campbell to be more experimental. Lemmy was very fond of Mickey too. more like the 5th , the original Motorhead drummer and guitar project got shelved and later released against Lemmy's wishes , then you have the classic line up with philthy and eddie, then the short lived robbo era , then the wurzel era (4 piece) then back to a 3 piece with mickey and phil , til the end @@SteLi400

    I saw them in Portland Oregon in like 97. Lemmy would run offstage after the last note in the song and Mickey often had to talk to the crowd. You could see Lemmy partying offstage. Sometimes he came back with his drink or a joint in his mouth. It was one of the best shoes I ever saw despite all that. Saw them 3 times ultimately and they played the best that night.

    100% Mikkey was that engine that came in at the right time and brought that Wellington bomber (so to speak) nose dive up and leveled it out. And slowly and gently started pulling the stick back to again to raise the planes to what Motörhead became and was and still is.

    Has anyone heard about the big drinking/drug-taking/partying feats of Mickey Dee? The answer is *no* because it didn't happen (or if it did, he always had control over it.)
    The drummer in a rock n' roll band must be the most professional, hardest working member of the band. He is the conductor of the band and with Mickey Dee as skipper, Motörhead ran a tight ship, often blowing away bands less than half their age as well as much bigger bands that they opened for. (I had no idea who Motörhead was when I first saw them... they were supporting Motley Crue in 2006 and my mate told me to make sure to come to the gig early and with respect to the Crue, Motörhead blew them out of the water. When Lemmy said "we are Motörhead and we are here to kick your arse", he was not lying. The only song they played that I knew of was "Ace of Spades" but I was going off my head to each and every song they played. The whole band was awesome. The loudest 3 piece band ever. And I had never seen a drummer like Mickey. Not before and not since.)
    There is no way that Lemmy would've been playing solid sets with Phil Campbell to arenas right up until he was "Killed by Death" without Mickey Dee holding it down. You could see a Motörhead concert in the 80s, 90s, 00s or the first half of the 2010s and you'd still get the authentic and complete Motörhead experience. I have seen many bands and very few have that longevity of consistently awesome live performances. ZZ Top and the Alice Cooper (solo) band are the only other ones I can think of. Not even Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, AC/DC, Sabbath, Aerosmith, Kiss or The Stones had/have that.
    So if you were like me, and were fortunate to see them, even as late as 2006, 2008 and 2011 (all in Sydney, Australia in my case), you can thank Mickey Dee for that.

    Mikkey had big shoes to fill after Phil Taylor left. It's odd so many loved Motohead but they didn't get the album sales weird one of the reasons thy had to tour so hard besides the fact they loved the life your in a band it's the whole point album every 2 years but toured twice as hard didn't sale out like Metallica Lemmy stayed true to his fans $$ not everything. Mikkey great drummer down to earth guy just the right fit. Lemmy picked Matt Sorum to cover for Mikkey for 2 weeks must have seen something there.

  • @RabidGerry
    @RabidGerry Рік тому +1

    Irony here as it was Pete Gill who first attempted to do that and Lemmy considered him trying to steal his band jist by getting themto be a little more professional. May be by '92 they realised they needed someone to help with that side if things.

    The truth is: Lemmy could have done ANYTHING he wanted to, but he wanted to "celebrate" life & music with the world. When the managers/business/contracts/math comes into the celebration, it kill's the celebrations spirit! If pushed to hard Lemmy would simply say phuck music, and pursue something else! If Brian May can get a PHD in astrophysics, Lemmy could rule the world! \m/
