    Just 'slightly' overboard with the arpeggios, I think.
    So... yeah. Not much of a story I could tell here. I figured I could just give it a go, so I did. Worked on it for two days and became frustrated when my ignorance regarding music theory was put on full display. Somehow I found a few chord progressions that sort of work. And I played around with pulse width modulation a bit. Sounds not bad.
    It's by far not the best, even when compared against my own standards. But I think I made it a non-zero amount of acceptable.

    Some of those square waves are trapezoidal. It’s as though they’re not true square waves, but they gave it their best shot. If only we had a name for them....

    Also, you said you were ignorant of a ton of music theory. Don't worry, I was there before. You'll learn through experience and through looking up videos about stuff.

    • @DelayRGC
      @DelayRGC  3 роки тому +3

      For the past one and a half years of making these kinds of remixes I've mostly been guessing these notes (intervals, really) and rhythms. To be fair, that has decreased considerably since I started, but it's still my unfortunate modus operandi.
      As you might be able to imagine, that's much more frustrating than doing it properly because the finished song is overshadowed by the brute forcing it took to get there.

    • @TheMuzykant
      @TheMuzykant 3 роки тому +1

      @@DelayRGC I also guess the intervals sometimes. I use tracker software OpenMPT to make music, so obviously some guesswork may be necessary sometimes. I can relate to you, because my first 8-bit remix of a song was just like that - guessing intervals, not knowing how to read score sheets, not knowing musical terms, brute forcing, etc.
      But you'll learn one way or another. Like what a C major chord is, or by Googling how to read key signatures and what notes are what. You can find plenty of videos on UA-cam talking about these terminologies. Trust me, it helps. What software do you use by the way to make this?

    • @DelayRGC
      @DelayRGC  3 роки тому +2

      Sorry - the comment was listed as being for review and I don't check that list very often.
      I also use a tracker, but not OpenMPT. I'm using MilkyTracker instead, which I've gotten very used to.
      The main problem I have is transcribing from scratch. I've played the piano for a few years already, so sheets and terms are not a large difficulty. But I do have problems in *hearing* intervals or chords or figuring out a song's key without notes given. Basically, I know the practice and only enough theory to realize this practice, which is actually a bit embarrassing.
      I do follow a few music theory channels on UA-cam, like 8-Bit Music Theory, who specialized in explaining how video game soundtracks are written, and I look stuff up as well when I absolutely need to (I prefer to discover things myself). I'm trying my best to learn and improve.

    • @TheMuzykant
      @TheMuzykant 3 роки тому +2

      @@DelayRGC What you are describing sounds very similar to me. I think you have relative pitch. I can never figure out what a key is on its own, so I usually press a key on my phone's keyboard and then go up or down to get the key I need to hear. Then I would probably try to play along with the song I'm trying to remix by guessing the scales.
      As for chords, for triads, I usually can hear the root and the 5th, but never the 3rd. For major 7ths, I can sometimes recognise that dreamy sounding sound.
      Intervals I tend to have a problem too, though I sometimes recognise intervals through other songs.

    • @TheMuzykant
      @TheMuzykant 3 роки тому +2

      @@DelayRGC Oh and I don't know if this applies to MilkyTracker, but it sounds like some of your samples are muffled. Have you tried reducing the resampling to no interpolation if the whole song sounds better? I don't even know if resampling is a thing in MilkyTracker.
