I'm a composer and sound engineer, and what brought me here was to comment on the pitch effects used here. They are doing two things (really over-the-top). 1. The pitch is acutally being bent on certain instruments (like on the Hawaiin-guitar sound). But even further, the song is actually tuned to an alternate, historical tuning. I can't tell if it's Valotti, or Kirnberger tuning, but it's part of why the song sounds so wobbly--in a trippy sort of way. You rarely hear something like this because it's difficult to pull-off without sounding dizzying--in a nauseating sort of way. Highly original. Kudos to all the music-lovers here who have come with a deeper sense of listening.
Truth words!, as musican i say you have right! That Arrangement is perfect! So many bands in "underground" or other indie bands made realy masterpices! If you csn feel that music it bring you far away in a other timeless world! Im so noisey, like on drugs if i hear so good music!!! Its so unbeliveble what music can do and its a secret we never can understand, and we must not understsnd that! I ferl and life music! Its so extremely Beautyful so strong and powerful, its so ...wow, no words for it! Music can bring you in other worlds!, far far away from "reality" in a time and spaceless place who you can dive in it and you let you go, fell in music, and all feelings come out from the deepest part of your being, mind and soul!!! Its like a trip without any drugs!!! You need that not if you can let you fall in the music!!! Its incredible! Absolute unbeliveble, no words! ...grettings from a musican ;)
Btw. the best way to learn is to hear good music from all musicaly genre!, on this way i have learned so unbeliveble much! Independent band are so superb in Arrangements, easily unbelievable!, it give so many so good band who made music thay is not more from this earth!, the way thay recorded (very offten without producer and Ingenieur), with simple home recording stuff like lidl taperecorder or digi, in not perfect avousticsrooms, with superb musicaly instrumental parts and arrangements, beautyfull singingline/melodie, good musicaly rythms/drums, all is realy good made, the song perfekt! In the end the music with the arrangements is the important think, after thay recording situation! I learn moste from lidl unknowed or less knowed band, than from "big" one out from musichistory! My focus is on music self, melodies and rythms! And the rest on analog technic (tape recorder, mixer, effects and good acoustic rooms) ...thats thay a musican must go to get good stuff, its in youre blood or not! I feel music! I know what happend (or what must be on right time) in what time, without counter! ...feel it, get it, do it! Thats it! ...from what studio you are?, big one or self recording in private studio? On what genre you are specialized ...greedings
@@nichtimmer9134 Yes, i agree! Have you heard of Daniel Johnston. He started recording a bunch of songs in high school from his parents piano. He only used a cassette-tape recorder, but the songs are classic!
This song is straight fuel on an evening run. I turn it on repeat as I run towards the sun setting on the Arizona horizon. My spirit leaves my body every time.
i saw these guys on sunday at the hollywood bowl. i was absolutely blown away. this bands music is truly amazing. i cant get thier music out of head, and im loving it!
I had this song stuck in my head occasionally for about a year and could never pinpoint it. The slide guitar was so memorable. I found it recently and nearly cried, I'm so glad I can actually listen to it whenever I want to. Love it.
Its crazy to see how old this song is when I just found it and its one of my fsvs from them. Hope more folks like myself listen to more from beach house then just space song
absolutely love this song. Saw them play in Seoul when I lived there, and now the song reminds me of my time in Korea so vividly, and it's already such an emotionally powerful song, that I can't listen to it too often. For me, it's not norway, it's korea
@dannyelfmanmustdie -- the clips are from the 1970 Czech film "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders" ("Valerie A Tyden Divu"). The British band "Broadcast" kind of resurrected interest in the film about 5 years ago, when they cited its influence on their music.
Random video but ive got to say it im loveing it just seems to sit really well with the music and if anything i would rather watch this then some of the junk they call music videos you see all the time
Omg i hear this at my work at JCrew all the time and it took me 3 hours looking for it online =D glad to have finally found it. (All i had was the line "Don't you know its truuuuueee" do you know how difficult it was to find this song?)
Teen Dream is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Sure, whatever, there are probably plenty of bands who've made music like this in the past 25, 30 years. It's dream pop. But its the best damn dream pop I've ever heard. Nobody does it like Beach House.
@woojoke Apparently the song Norway was written on a dare from Norwegian music-journalists on a train ride from Bergen to Oslo when touring in Norway. My guess is that the beautiful scenery in the Norwegian mountains was much of the inspiration for this song :)

fell in love with this song the first time I heard it, only gets better as time goes by
the constant change of pitch on the guitar in the background does it for me. trippy
Hi, thank you. It's from a Czech film called "Valerie and Her Week of Wonders"
Thanks:)
this is such a trippy song.....the melody melts into itself and the hook is simple and powerful.
These guys are psychedelic rock masters
Still say this is the most gorgeous keyboard and guitar mix ever recorded.
Victoria has a beatiful voice.

Good song. I started with "Wishes" and it kicks ass, especially with video featuring Ray Wise.
Oh thanks! I saw it in the description but wasn't sure that was the movie! Thanks! Take care.

Very nice! Does anyone else smell a bit of the Cocteau Twins with a dash of My Bloody Valentine influencing this song?
Paul Porter Yes, IMO. I embrace that sensibility in a world of pop stars and other musical
redundancies.
Yes, yes, yes.
+Paul Porter yeah, there is definitely a shoegaze influence.
That's because Beach House is dream pop and dream pop is a very closely related to shoegaze.
Mazzy Star!
Dreamful!
this song has a hole different meaning to me now ever since the disaster in norway happened.
Beach house is my to go to when I’m drinking... fucking love their music!!
Me encanta esta cancion
i love this song❤❤
I love Norway specially the girls!
i absolutely LOVE IT
:D if i listen to this song in the morning, i know i will have a good day!
The nostalgia is absolutely suffocating and I hate it.
Heard this on 101.7 WFNX Boston...great tune
This song gets me high.
Random video but ive got to say it im loveing it just seems to sit really well with the music and if anything i would rather watch this then some of the junk they call music videos you see all the time
I always thought it was saying No Weigh
my bloody valentine i believe we're probably one of the first bands to pioneer the distorted sound in rock music.
I saw these guys last night with vampire weekend. this song is great but it was even better live.
Beach House , they are the best artists of our generation. Simple as that.
muito bom ♡
The wobbly reminds me of My Bloody Valentine.
Dig it.
may remind me of the cocteau twins. very nice how the sound shifts off and on the road again, sounding sort of bent, not straight :))
Omg i hear this at my work at JCrew all the time and it took me 3 hours looking for it online =D glad to have finally found it.

Valerie and Her week of Wonders is a great film to use for a video, reminds me of how good the Broadcast song/video of "Valerie" is on You Tube.
