    The dog house looks awesome, more room , less weight. Upgraded parts. Can't complain about that. I wouldn't care what you put in the amp if it was mine as long as it was functioning properly and done with skill. That's all I would ask . To hell with the price ,but I noticed you do a great job at giving good service to the amps and at the same time try to help the owner to save $$. Your a 1 in a million service. Dependable, trustworthy, and skilled. 👍😎

    Lyle, that is an absolute work of art! Those Nichicon caps look great and this owner will be VERY happy with the end result. I cannot thank you enough for turning me on to those caps. I've used them in all my builds now for over a year and they have been great.
    Thanks also for answering all my questions in the live chats on Vox circuits. My AC15 build is coming along fine, and I understand the circuit MUCH more than when I first started brainstorming on it. It's been interesting stepping out of my usual comfort zone of 60s Fender circuits.

    I can honestly say I was seriously waiting in anticipation to see how you were going to do the filter caps in this setup! I'm OK now. I really like how it is like 'know one will know its not original' but in a good way. We'll have to do stuff like this more as these amps and type of circuits are to stay alive and working for a living. Love it.

    That looks great Lyle! That's a much better solution than using axial caps that would've been pushing themselves to their limit every single time you turned the amplifier on. That Bassman is way too valuable to use anything other than the best available solution. Bravo good sir!

    Kudos on the bias trim pot!!! Trying to figure out the voltage drop on selenium rectifier stacks is a very inexact science, at best. The "around 1 volt per plate", is just pure nonsense, especially with half wave rectifiers. My 0-600 volt & new 0-1000 volt power supply projects have transformers that put out well over 2000 volts. Same deal, put 3 or 4 or 5 caps in series, shunted with balancing resistors, or "voltage dividers", as they are referred to on the schematics. One has 3 80 uF caps with 5K 50 watt resistors across each cap and the 1000 volt PSU has 4 100uF caps in series, with four 5K 100 watt resistor shunts.

    I've come to really appreciate the smaller radial caps such as you've used here; my crusty old brain still has trouble with the better performance in a smaller package, but they do work well.

    Great solution for a common problem in those amps. In Athens GA where I live wall voltages are frequently 126-128vac. It can be a real nightmare biasing current production el84 based amps.

    1958 is not always > 2024. Just because it is "stock" does not mean it is better than what we can do with good parts today. Amps are meant to be played...not looked at in a time machine. Great job, Lyle.

    Doghouse is very nice! I might want some physical support in addition to the solder and silicone you've used to hold the caps up off the chassis, a EPDM foam strip could do this well (McMC)

    I wish Nichicon made higher voltage axial electrolytic caps. What you did in the dog house is genius. Now, how to make a better ground than just 4 screws and metal to metal contact…..

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  18 днів тому +1

      Thanks Matt.
      I’m not using the doghouse cover for ground. Just to solder the terminal strips to. And the caps have some non-reactive silicone beneath them. Ground wires are being run into the chassis ala AB763.

    Mornin Lyle. Any advice on carbon comp vs carbon film resistors? I’d like to use 1/2 watt cc on a PR clone build but I’ve heard they’re noisy and prone to early failure. Thanks in advance!

    Lyle I know nothing about electronics. In the U.K. we have 240 volts from the wall. How does this affect all the parts in an amp?

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  18 днів тому

      Same as using a 120VAC primary transformer here. In theory the secondary voltages will be the same.
      But you can have this same issue. Is your “240” really that, or 230, or 255?
      The secondary voltages are a percentage of the primary voltage. As it changes, they change.
