    THE FILTER HAS TO MAKE AN AUDIBLE "CLICK", TO BE FULLY ON! IF YOU REMOVE A DIRTY OLD FILTER, AND THE PLEATS ARE WARPTED, its because the filter did not bottom out and seal in the cartridge holder and it was crushed when tightened. Almost every video i have seen has a warped filter and no-one seams to be pushing hard and turning at same time to lock filter onto cartridge for a tight seal! If you do not do this you may as well save money and run no filter at all!! Cheers

    Its a good idea to have a litter tray or something to drop the filter assembly straight into on top of the engine, to avoid dropping oil everywhere.

      @@TheCraftyTech will you be doing a head gasket replacement video anytime soon? The thing I've noticed is a hell of a lot of mayo on the underside of the filler cap which suggests to me that the oil hasn't been replaced for years and that the pcv system is blocked.

      @@TheCraftyTech dipstick is fine. The car has done 146,000 miles and not knowing the history of it in pretty sure the previous owners haven't cared for it. Thanks to your video the oil has been replaced with 5 40 leaving the old filter in place as it was that old I replaced it and using the new oil to help wash the remnants of the old oil away but it will all be replaced In a week when the water pump and other things get done. Again thanks for the help and look forward to seeing more uploads.

      Too much oil. Possible engine damage but I doubt it. The sensors on these engines go off if you have even a cup too much. Very sensitive.

      This is literally the way not to do an oil change on an ML350. The way it is to be done is with a small electric siphon pump. Place the suction tube down the check oil level tube until it hits the bottom of the oil pan, then put the drain hose in a bucket. Turn on the pump. No need to get under the car ect. Luckily Mercedes engines have the oil filter right on top of the motor for easy access. So oil changes are a breeze. This method is what Mercedes Benz recommends all Authorized service center dealerships do for oil changes through their service bulletin.

    • @TheCraftyTech
      @TheCraftyTech  4 роки тому

      That is definitely another way to do it. The non electric only takes about 10 pumps though, also it is not a big deal to pop out the drain plug and $200 cheaper. Just dont overtorque and crack the pan like my buddy did twice in 1 week.

      Yeah for sure. German cars usually take a bunch, the gas and diesel engines in the passenger cars sometimes use the same capacity from engine to engine. Destic diesel engines can use over 20 liters.

  • @SimonLeBonbonbon
    @SimonLeBonbonbon 6 років тому

    Thanks for this video. However, if you fill it up to 'max' with a cold engine, after driving a few miles you could get an "Oil Hi" error (this will disappear after a while).
    www.benzworld.org/forums/w163-m-class/1371801-high-oil-level.html
    With a cold engine, it should be halfway between min and max. Even garages make this mistake, including the one that did the last service on my '98 ML320, he put 10 litres into it. It is better to fill it up halfway or 3/4 max. My ML320 has 325,000 km on it, every piece of plastic starts to break, but it keeps on going....
