    hey amazing video, my question is why do we replace the sensor, i have ml320 1999 and every thing works it just some times the engine stops and i have to wait for 30 mints or reset the battery then engine starts i have no killed switch or any starter or alarmes i saw you video but my question is this the sensor malfunction and must be replace?
    thank you very much

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  7 років тому

      Reza Ahmadi stalling is one of the symptoms and no star is another symptom. There usually is a code stored in there PCM for the crank sensor.

    • @pimpoutmysandwich
      @pimpoutmysandwich 6 років тому +1

      According to my AutoZone assessment, "when not replaced, vehicle may experience no start, hard start, intermittent engine shut down, misfire, engine cut out, excessive fuel consumption, CEL illumination, and/ or failed emission test" because the sensor helps regulate "ignition spark timing and fuel injector pulse timing" which is very important to maintain if you want to keep your engine running healthy or running at all over time.

    I have mercedes gl350 diesel. jerky transmission when cold. p0336. FIXED. Best from underneath. TAke the plastic shield from below the transmission pan off, using 8mm wrench. Look above the starter and the LH fwd drive shaft and you'll see the plug on the driver side where the engine meets the transmission. It's at the 10 oclock position, just like on the Sprinter. I have a GL350,2013. crankshaft position sensor. metal shield over connector. use torx box end wrench.

      $200 it swap out a CPS that takes about 5 minutes to do. Cha-ching lol. Just serviced an Audi S4: radiator, AC compressor, intake manifold seals and oil check valves, oil/filter change, and an engine mount. Total labor $500. So $200 to do a simple CPS, yeah kind of pricey.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  8 років тому

      If it's just a vacuum hose then no it's cheap. But if it's like a gasket leaking it could be expensive. Just pop off the engine cover with the engine running kind a listen for the hissing noise.

    what are signs that the sensor is going bad? my 2002 has a noticeable rough idle, but i just took it on highway trip and got 21mpg. also, a little tip on the 'vanity' cover. the left rear attachment (standing in front of engine) is NOT attached by rubber grommet, but by cheap piece of plastic clip. i know b/c i broke mine!

    hi My ML 320 seem to be having the same problems, It starts and run for like 20 mins and then turns its self off and after a 10 to 15 min wait, would start again and then repeat the circle all over again. Could it be the Crank.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 років тому

      David Agabi yes it could be the season or a Fuel Pump shuttling down. You’ll need to test for fuel pressure and also for spark to determine which one is the problem

    I'm doing this very thing on my 2000 ML320 and am having problems getting the new sensor all the way back in and having the bolt hole line up with the thread. You make it seem so easy. It's the exact same sensor so that's not it. There's just no wiggle room to get leverage. One of the few times I'll need a guy to help me.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 років тому

      jamnjam i've seen if it's an aftermarket sensor that they don't slide down inside the hole. So what I have done in the past is use sandpaper and lightly sand the sensor on the outside to make it a little smaller and then slide it in.

    • @yamnjam
      @yamnjam 6 років тому +1

      That makes sense. I thought I was just super stupid, weak, or a little of both! I can't even get it back out. Got a buddy coming by to help and I'll be taking your advice. Thanks!

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 років тому

      jamnjam there's not much room down there and he can be a pain. Let me know how it comes out thank you for watching!

    • @yamnjam
      @yamnjam 6 років тому

      The sandpaper worked like a charm. Too bad the crankshaft position sensor isn't what was wrong. I inherited it and it has 230k miles so it probably was due for a new one anyway. I've got a friend with a professional code reader coming by. I drove 200 miles the other day and 10 miles from home it just lost power on the highway, started sputtering, and then died after awhile. It restarted over and over but ran rough and moved only a few feet at a time. Got it towed. Next day started up & drove great for 2 blocks. Figured it was gone. Later, it went only 10 blocks and started the whole shuttering thing again. Towed again. Cranks fine, battery and alternator are great, so I took a stab at the CPS. I pray it's something normal like a fuel pump, not some weird obscure electrical problem. But it's not the sensor and now it doesn't even stay running. Now the fun begins.

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  6 років тому +1

      jamnjam it sounds like a fuel pump. You can test fuel pressure when the problem is happening. There is a possibility of a bad mass air flow Sensor. Scan tool will tell you more.

  • @DaytonCarCare
    @DaytonCarCare 3 роки тому

    I've read that sometimes you can get a crank no start condition if the CPS goes bad and also won't show any codes with OBD2 reader. Have you experienced this?

    • @HowtoAutomotive
      @HowtoAutomotive  3 роки тому

      Yes I have run across that exact condition before. The car will not have injector pulse or spark.

    • @DaytonCarCare
      @DaytonCarCare 3 роки тому

      @@HowtoAutomotive Yeah I'm working on a 99 ML430, code for IAT so replaced MAF (checked wires to MAF plug they're OK), checked fuel PSI @ 50 should be 60 but I understand it's lower when cranking then gets higher after started (replaced FP anyway since level sensor bad), cleaned tube from EGR since common for them to carbon up (210k miles on vehicle) (have a 2000 E320 that had a no start condition and cleaning EGR tubed fixed that), also swapped in a good used ignition switch key sensor, so ordering a CPS since I can't think of any other issue that would cause this condition.

    • @DaytonCarCare
      @DaytonCarCare 3 роки тому

      OK installed a new CPS and it seemed to almost want to start. Then same symptoms of crank no start. Did some more research on M113 engine and read if it had gotten flooded by fuel prime the system by cycling the key to position 2 several times without cranking. Then hold pedal to floor and crank. That did the trick and it is running. It does have a rough idle so spark plugs next, has cheap Autolite one from previous owner and look over gapped and carboned. Going to replace with NGKs and see it it takes care or rough idle. (since TB, and EGR have been cleaned, also new Bosch MAF)

    • @DaytonCarCare
      @DaytonCarCare 3 роки тому

      Replaced the plugs and still same condition of crank no start and also a fuel smell. The old plugs smelled of fuel too. On further investigation I started wiggling the key then pushed on the main power plug going to key assembly then it started. Depending on where I pushed it, it would either make it start or (if running) would shut off if I pushed on it. So going to replace the ignition switch PN 1685451004
