You all need to get your scales out of the bathroom. Steam from the shower condenses on the electronic components. These are not hermetically sealed so if air can get in, humidity can too. If your bathroom is cool in the morning, you take a shower, the air in the bathroom then becomes saturated with water, while increasing in temperature. But inside your scales takes much longer to warm up. By the time you’re done in the shower, you have warm humid air making it’s way inside the scales and then condensing on the still-cold internals, especially on the metal parts (soldered components etc). This causes corrosion, and micro-short-circuits in the sensitive electronic system. Once this happens, even if you later remove the scales from the bathroom, they may still be damaged permanently. Not all scales have this problem but certainly scales with advanced components like wifi chips, microprocessors, and unsealed LCDs are more likely to be vulnerable than basic digital scales. You’re welcome.
I bought a brand new Withings Cardio on Amazon. It works for a year and never start again. I thought it run out of battery and I recharged it. But there was no sign of operation. I looked for it information regarding the situation with Withings Cardio. And I realize that There are many like me. It’s a good looking scale but its charger port was cheap part from China.
You didn't recharge it long enough that's why. I thought mine was broke until I left it with a blank screen charging for about 15 minutes and it came on and showed it was charging
Exact same here. 1st failed just inside 1st year warranty. They replaced it, the 2nd just fail just of 13 months later. Total junk. I’m not even reporting this one to the company. I’m pulling it apart.
Well, sorry you had the issue also but sure glad you posted your video. I now know what it happening to mine because it is EXACTLY as you described. One minute fine, one hour later complete screen chaos. It won't even shut itself off now, just keeps displaying random weights (with no weight one it). Sigh, thanks for the information because I can now stop trying to reset, factory restore, reconnect, etc.... in hopes of fixing it. :(
Sorry you had an issue.. My wife and I have had our Withings Body+ scale for probably 7 or 8 years? and only thing we've done is replace the batteries about 3 times? I guess we were lucky? :) ..
I really don't get how they messed up so bad with the Cardio. When checking reviews for the cheaper withings scales like Body and Body+ while some have issues, it is very few ppl. But with the cardio a BIG portion describe the same issues as you. Like how do you build a worse scale with the expensive options than with the cheap ones?
I agree. I have an old Body scale (measuring weight, body fat and BMI) from 2011, the thing is nearly 10 years old and it still functions perfectly. I wanted to upgrade to the Cardio for the extra measurements but I guess I’ll go for the Body+. One question though, does the Body+ still measures BMI? On the withings website it seems it doesn’t, kinda weird as my old scale even does.
I also have had two and my second one just quit. I liked it. It looks good and worked well for me until it didn't... If you are going to buy the Body Cardio I think you should think them as disposable after about 18 months. Both min suddenly showed ) charge and would not hold a charge. Withings said Ahhhh :( and then gave me the same 15% . I am not buying another. Withings does not offer a battery replacement....Not to environmentally friendly?? All they had to do was put a plug on the Samsung battery and they could have rebranded and sold them at a profit.
I have same problem and they offered me 25% off just now and told them it was disappointing to have such expensive scale to only last over a year. Not spending another dime for this crap.
Good video - Great scale, until it stops working!!!! I had mine for little over a year and it stopped working. Customer service offered the same things to me. Little pricey to break that soon!!!!
Thanks for taking the time to comment Roman. I agree with you 100%. I rarely complain about stuff, but this frustrated me to no end. It clearly has a design problem.
You’d think withings would replace it for free considering they’ve probably lost 5000 sales due to this video. Including me. All products have duds, but this seems to be a know, regular fault. No bueno.
Thanks Tyler. Honestly, by the time I got to the point of making this video, they had lost me from ever being a customer again. I wouldn't have taken a free scale. I did send a link to the customer service representative for this video, so they could see I was serious when I told them I would make one. There was no response.
This is so true! the same exact happened with my scale but seems like I was luckier as it lasted 3 years and now out of warranty! That's a total loss of money! Don't buy!
I've discovered this clip a bit late - I bought my cardio around the same time this video came up (nearly 3 years now) and still no problem with the screen, though I do doubt the accuracy of the readings occasionally. But for all those who say don't put it in the bathroom - having not designed a scale to endure a bathroom environment is a massive design oversight. Being blamed for your scale malfunctioning because it's placed in the bathroom is like being blamed for your new car rusting because you've driven it in the rain. No - it's the car manufacturer's responsibility to properly design their cars not to rust in their natural environment. The bathroom is the natural environment for scales - the one common family area where you have a stable, flat surface and (most importantly, I reckon) it's acceptable to have your clothes off which is desirable for an accurate reading (especially relevant when these scales take readings for up to 8 family members). To have to place it elsewhere in the house is a ridiculous overcompensation for something Withings should have sorted out for the money being asked. Rubber gaskets aren't that expensive...
Thanks for the well written comments. I agree one hundred percent about the placement of the scales in your household. Also, steam rises. I have never had my bathroom so steamy that it was all the way to the floor. LOL
Great video. Too bad I already bought one. Five months into using it the charging port broke and the internal micro-USB connector is now inside the unit. I'm going to attempt to fix it myself. First and last Withings product for us!
Hi Kurt! Thanks for the comment. Have you tried contacting them about the warranty? The will look after you if it's less than a year. At least you'll have a scale to use for another few months.
With the 50% discount if you do have to replace the $20 Costco scale each year it wouldn't be much more expensive per year to get the Withings scale (if they send out the replacement the first year it breaks). Not saying you should actually do this but your value for money argument didn't really add up.
I bought this scale and due to my large frame, it cracked under my weight. I returned it for a refund. I’ve since found a simpler solution: I just don’t weigh myself anymore.
Yes. It's a regular electric baseboard heater. Cold air comes in off the floor on the bottom and warm air rises out the top. It doesn't blow air directly out.
Love my Withings scale, but this week the display went blank. I replaced the batteries and it says "Hello" for a few seconds before extinguishing itself (like normal). Then I put the scale on the floor and step on it and there is no information shown in the display. I sent off an email to Withing's support and am awaiting a reply. Hope I can resolve this without paying an arm and a leg. Otherwise, back to a non wireless one that doesn't automatically update my weight in my health apps. Really love that it does that, but can't justify paying that much if it is going to break that soon. After seeing the comments, I can see that Withings needs a reliability engineer to review the design. Will update this comment when I get this resolved one way or the other.
That’s for taking the time to write. If you’re within the one year warranty, they will look after you for sure. If you’re outside of that, good luck. Would love to hear how you make out!
I have this scale and it's correct it hasn't even lasted a year and it won't even turn on or charge up Such a waste of money for very pricey scale shame on you withings for making such rubbish but expensive price
Thanks for taking the time to comment! It keeps this video relevant and hopefully saves someone else from wasting their money on this scale. And in case anyone is curious, our Weight Watchers scale from Costco still going strong.

for 150 dollars a scale, not being hermetically sealed in a known environment sounds like a design failure.
Do the instructions actively inform you that this scale is not able to survive in a bathroom environment?
@@machninety7334 Max 80%rh, 35c/95f, and it says to not use it in “a place that is too humid”.
same here, stopped measuring bone mass etc
Idk mine works since 2016
Maybe the moisture damages it

Thank you , you have just saved me £120
Thank you very much! I canceled my order!

How do you know that steam in your bathroom didn't ruin it?

Appreciate it. Hows that weight watchers unit working??
Still working perfectly 😃
Glad I seen this video I was just about to push the check out button

THANKS for the honesty we need more of this.

Thanks for taking g the time to comment. Maybe they’ve improved the design, but I personally wouldn’t take the chance.

50% off the Body Cardio still makes it a $75 scale... you may want to revisit your 2nd grade math fundamentals.
I bought this scale and due to my large frame, it cracked under my weight. I returned it for a refund. I’ve since found a simpler solution: I just don’t weigh myself anymore.
I’ve had one for about 4 years now. No issues. -F.Y.I. (it’s May 2021 now)
Ah man, I just bought this scale. Hopefully it's not a dud like the others...
Thanks for never posting a follow-up confirming either way.
Great info, thanks
is that thing a heater you've got it sitting in front of?
Yes. It's a regular electric baseboard heater. Cold air comes in off the floor on the bottom and warm air rises out the top. It doesn't blow air directly out.
John Pitcher oh ok, I thought maybe the heat coming off that thing might be ruining the scale but if it doesn’t blow hot air onto it, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have my scale, for about 5year.. so this is not serious video..
Congratulations! That’s pretty good.
Best Scale ever!!!
Wi-things. Wi-Fi Things.
mine did the exact same thing, avoid this scale , they are a pile of shite
Thanks for taking the time to comment! It keeps this video relevant and hopefully saves someone else from wasting their money on this scale. And in case anyone is curious, our Weight Watchers scale from Costco still going strong.
Not a fan of my withings
Sorry to hear that. I feel your pain.
