I caved and bought the BP for my birthday present to me a couple of weeks ago! What I've learned: watercolor paper is a good option...try what you own first. Canson XL works very well as well as Strathmore. The ink issue is a little different. BP ink is definitely the best....BUT there are others that work well! Ranger Archival, some Distress inks (not all colors worked for me), Catherine Pooler inks work very well too. I like the small cubes for inking the plates...just easier and less messy. Watch YT videos for tips...invaluable!! This system is fun...no electrical gadgets to mess with! Hard to make a mistake...and results are impressive. I am a hobbyist card maker and make cards for enjoyment. I don't need expensive paper/cs that's the "best"!! Is this something you "need"? Nope. But it is fun and makes beautiful cards! And the Glimmer plates work just fine...it's just that most are not detailed not the BP plates, so the result isn't dynamic.
I bought the BetterPress pre-order because, thanks to you, you inspired me to purchase the Scrapbook exclusive Spellbinders Black Platinum 6 to go with the Spellbinders Glimmer system. I’d been doing the monthly kit TCK. It includes Glimmer plates and foil so I sprang for the System of Glimmer plus Platinum 6. For hot foiling, the Glimmer is the best choice as I see it. I’ve learned so much from you. The BetterPress seemed to be just a natural addition to my Spellbinders equipment. I told myself that Spellbinders must produce some beautiful plates and great inks and Card stock for this to fly as the pre-order only hinted about plates and quality. Well, they knocked it out of the park. Here you are adding your expertise and authenticity to the BetterPress. When you do it (and dear Lia too!) we know we can do it, succeed, and have fun. 2023 was supposed to be for me The Year of Foiling and Inks for my building my tools and supplies. I love your hacks like the Sizzix sticky grid and so many others. Happy to see BetterPress aligns perfectly with my 2023 goals. Thanks for all you do and all the smart fun.
I just got the Better Press and played tonight with different archival inks , made 6 panels with the of different papers. I cannot get the better press inks yet and ordered a pack of the 220 lb. paper by mistake, ordered the 118 lb. paper tonight . cannot wait to use the 220 lb. paper . this is a fun new thing to make some great cards .
My favorite was the print with the berry ink and second fave was the butterflies with transition of colors. That said, I would love to see the berry ink on the thicker paper - the thickness of that paper is dreamy! I wouldn’t shy away from this machine if it were a gift but having just acquired the mini minc which is heavenly, I have to play with the numerous collection of products on hand. Now of spellbinders can perfect the glimmer to have a magnetic base to prevent shifting when the base is removed from the device, my dreams would come true (the only true drawback I have) thanks for always showing off the new products !
Archival and Simon Hurley ink work very well. I was on the fence for 2- 3 months and now I have 25 plates with more coming. i like without the ink also, but the ink in different colors works also.
Omg i will buy one… period!! 😅😅😅😅 The butterfly ombre en with foiling omg bingo!! They are not available yet Here in the netherlands. I cant wait 😅 Thank you so much.
❤ Hello to all, I have to see to believe first, so I purchased the plates to try on my go press. I love how easy it is to make the sentiment and prefer the inked panel.
Hello Nancy this was such a helpful video I don’t have a better press yet but I’m so wanting one badly, I loved the butterfly card but your white panel card was stunning too. I’m going to play this weekend and try to get the press effect with my platinum 6 using my plates for the better press and sandwich’s wish me luck, I just subscribed to your videos I truly enjoyed this video
Thanks Nancy! At first I didn't think it was worth the trouble because of the separate inks and paper I would need to get, but I'm warming up to the idea. The results are so pretty...
Another fun tutorial. I too missed out on the pre-order bundle and ended up purchasing the smaller bundle that included the butterfly swirl plate from Scrapbook. I will definitely be trying that butterfly plate with the ombre effect as soon as I get the additional inks! Everyone seems especially impressed with the inks. I want to try using the brown ink on the cream color paper to get a vintage sepia affect. Also, I like both examples with and without ink.
So, not using the ink and just creating an impression looks just like embossing folder results....especially the 3D types...which are lovely! Wish I could see a hands on demo... I'm firmly implanted on the fence! That paper cost is outrageous...surely there's something else that will work? This is a card making hobby for most of us!
I've done 3 videos. I used different inks and papers and I show a video how to letterpress without the machine. So there are alternatives that will work and save you money.
Hi Nancy. Loving your Betterpress videos. Just received mine and I’m going to definitely try your tips! 👍🏻. I think you might have stumbled on a good idea saying the thicker card stock feels like a coaster. SB should create some monogram circle plates and we could make some elegant coasters, they would be great for parties or weddings!
Have you tried mulberry paper as that is handmade paper. I will be trying it when I get my press. Thank you for sharing all you wealth of information. You are so kind and honest and enthusiastic.💕
I am loving all the videos on the better press machine. I can't justify the splurge right now, but it's on my wish list. I can see some amazing Nativity plates for Christmas cards coming. The thought alone makes me squirm.
I’ve been holding off on the betterpress- but this is killing me - I said I didn’t need it - but wow ! 21:00 I will definitely be getting some plates- to foil and to ink .
Interested to see the 220lb. paper. I didn’t know about it and it’s pretty amazing! Something else to buy…😂 Thank you for another excellent demonstration. You always show different ways of doing things and how to use the machines and products. You’re very much appreciated!❤
When I first saw a video demonstrating the betterpress I wasn't really excited about it. To be fair the person demoing was having a lot of issues but was repping the company so you'd think knew what she was doing. After watching several of your videos on this tool (?) I want one!!! lol I see you've tried it with various inks have you used other types of cardstock? Like what we normally use? For understated elegance there is nothing like professional looking letterpress.
I would love to have this. If I was younger and able to work, I could afford it, but right now, I can't. I love the inked plate and those butterflies are gorgeous! Did you say that you can foil with these plates?
Nancy, would it work to just use a small square of the sticky grid in each corner instead of the full size piece? It might be easier to remove the cardstock after stamping the plate.
@@NancyStamps oh, duh! I recently learned that Scotch now has a removable double sided tape! As soon as my Betterpress arrives, I’m going to try that… I just worry that if I have to go to so much effort to remove the card stock from a full sheet of sticky grid that I’m going to damage the card stock. I’m not very patient! I’ll report back unless you’ve tried it before me. So far, you’re the only one I’ve seen try something like a sticky grid… makes so much sense though!
I'm loving the betterpress but I've used my sizzix switch that they say on their site it's compatible but I thought I broke my machine because the cracking sound was awful. Also it spits it back in reverse and you can't stop it. I also have a big shot express but I'm afraid to try it in that because I don't know if it's compatible to express.
No difference without ink. But the Betterpress plates gives the option of using ink or foil. So more versatility than just embossing folders. Plus, the details are amazing. I don't know if an embossing folder can get that detailed.

I have the BetterPress and have used it! I loved the butterflies and I am going to try that! Beautiful cards, thanks for the video!
The thicker cardstock would probably make great framed gifts. The plates are gorgeous that Spellbinders came out with!

OMG, I adore the butterflies 🦋
I used my archival ink and it works perfectly.
I really like the Butterfly floral. I cut the butterflies and put a few on some of the inked ones.
Like both with color and without. Without color is so elegant - great for wedding cards.
This inspires me to use my press! Thanks a lot Nancy!

Beautiful both ways
Beautifully done!
Oh!!!!!! I love your videos! So glad I found you!!! You are great!!!!
I love both! I'm thinking you could make a tiny box from several uninked panels as a wedding favor.
I just love this betterpress system! Great videos! Keep them coming!😊
I like both, I can't wait to get mine and play
I love the betterpress! I use it with my bigshot but i did buy some additional shims (you can just use paper shims too)
I prefer with the ink. I can see why this is fun because there's no time wasted for set up. It's very impressive.

I love both! I have the letterpress on my bday wish list!
I like the inked one.
I am loving that it is fool proof too! So, so pretty!

Both!
The sticky grid is a good idea. I love watching all of videos for the Betterpress. I got mine the other day.
Beautiful Betterpress ...what a pretty result, with or without ink!!
Ugh. I was thinking I’d found a tool I didn’t really want - but now I REALLY want it. 😂😂😂
Lovely examples. That background is gorgeous, inked or plain! Love your nail colour by the way
I also am enjoying the BetterPress. I didn't know about the heavier paper. It's beautiful! So appreciate all your videos!
I’m not too interested in getting the letter press right now, but I am enjoying seeing u use it and be excited! Beautiful work - thanks for sharing!
❤ Hello to all, I have to see to believe first, so I purchased the plates to try on my go press. I love how easy it is to make the sentiment and prefer the inked panel.
On my to do list this weekend. Go Press & Foil machine.
I love this! Have to add to my list

That 220 lb looks almost like mat board. That's amazing.
I love love this machine and the designs they have for this machine. The foiling is awesome with the plates. You are such a WOW girl!
Thanks Nancy! At first I didn't think it was worth the trouble because of the separate inks and paper I would need to get, but I'm warming up to the idea. The results are so pretty...
You can use your own inks and you can use watercolor paper.
They both are Pretty I’m loving my betterpress letterpress ❤ thanks Nancy
Like you Nancy, I can't stop playing with the BetterPress! Thanks for all your videos on it, including last night's live with Lia. She was awesome!
I am still on the fence...except for getting a few if the plates to foil...
You are definitely making me waver...🙃

Pretty ❤😊
I like inked!

Not yet. Good idea.
Gotta get this!
Lovely 🥰 ❤❤❤❤❤

Put it on your Xmas list. I also showed a video to do it without the Betterpress.
@NancyStamps I must have missed that one, but will go look for it.
Absolutely stunning ❤
I’ve been holding off on the betterpress- but this is killing me - I said I didn’t need it - but wow ! 21:00

Girl, you keep showing this and it makes me want one, but it will have to wait a few weeks . 😀
It's sold out anyway in most places. So waiting is good. 🤣
Prefer the inked background. The multi color butterfly is the cat's meow. Thanks
I think it would be interesting to see how the one you pressed with no ink would kook with sentiment pressed with color and cut out.
I am so used to a LONG process in making my cards that I feel like I am cheating with the Betterpress. But I love the results!
When I first saw a video demonstrating the betterpress I wasn't really excited about it. To be fair the person demoing was having a lot of issues but was repping the company so you'd think knew what she was doing. After watching several of your videos on this tool (?) I want one!!! lol

I am having so much fun with this. Yes other inks and papers seem to work fine. I like the dual purpose plates
I’m just getting my Betterpress so I’m looking for ideas. I like the idea of no ink but I was unsuccessful with the standard paper. Any ideas?
Amazing ♥️🤩
I would love to have this. If I was younger and able to work, I could afford it, but right now, I can't. I love the inked plate and those butterflies are gorgeous! Did you say that you can foil with these plates?
Yes. I did a live foiling them: : ua-cam.com/users/liveTpW4WG67BPY?feature=share
QOTD: "You know you're an adult when you get excited about your kitchen getting almost complete."
With the ink
Nancy, would it work to just use a small square of the sticky grid in each corner instead of the full size piece? It might be easier to remove the cardstock after stamping the plate.
Probably, but I wanted the thickness to be the same on the whole piece.

Where do you get the sticky grid? Newbie here. Love your videos. Bought the better press. Love it so far.
In my amazon shop or Scrapbook.com
Loving all of this, ty for sharing? Where do u get the sticky grid paper you're using on your letterpress
Scrapbook, linked in description. Sizzix sticky grid
So I know that Spellbinders says no foiling plates in the betterpress....but have you tried it? Would you try it?
I did try it. Worked just fine. Here: ua-cam.com/video/sf2OA7vNuho/v-deo.html
Hi Nancy, I’m thinking of buying the BetterPress but could you tell me if you get a impression on reverse of card stock x thanks x
No, make sure you don't use too many shims.
With ink
Do you notice any difference of the pressure when you use the Sizzix Big Shot vs the Spellbinders Platinum machine?
Not really. They are very similar.
What weight cardstock are you using for the card , seems like the heavier weight BetterPress paper would make for a heavy card front?
Use heave 110lb for my cardbases. The card is thick, but not heavy.
Thank you Nancy. Enjoying your vedios so much.
I thought the regular Big Shot was ok and not the Switch? I used it in my Big Kick fine.
If you can use the plates on the glimmer machine can use use the glimmer plates on the Better Press?
You can but aren't supposed to because the foil plates are thicker. Remove all the shims first. I did a video on it.
Can you put the thin tape around the plate to keep the bed clean?
How is the uninked version different from embossing folders?
No difference without ink. But the Betterpress plates gives the option of using ink or foil. So more versatility than just embossing folders. Plus, the details are amazing. I don't know if an embossing folder can get that detailed.
Did you remove any shims for the thicker cardstock?
Yes. I took them all out.
Another thought is to ink the plate on a card before placing it on the machine.
I’ve been getting great results with my Accent Opaque 120 lb. Cardstock. Waaay cheaper.
