Peter Dinklage made Tyrion Lannister truly one of the greatest tv characters of all time. What an actor
And then D&D destroyed the character in one and half seasons.
Totally agree with you.
@@dan_hitchman007 Hi- Happy New Year! I have a very stupid question: what is D&D? The only thing that comes to my mind is Dungeons & Dragons which I know zero about. But I was just wondering. Thank you.

@@foutleslie919 David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the head writers of the TV show adaptation of Game of Thrones. The only seasons that were any good were the ones author and creator George R. R. Martin gave the two advice and story outlines. After that stopped the show fell off a cliff.
In the first 4 seasons of the show during which a huge portion of the dialogue was adapted directly from the books, this collaboration between Martin's writing and Dinklage's delivery was as good as can be found in any era of television.
Well said
🙏🙏🙏
Yes, I agree. His performance while there was still books to adapt to the screen, is fantastic. He nearly became a mute for the rest of the series or his dialogue just was not quality anymore.
It would have been great if they made Tyrion a villain, just like in the books, well at least it is hinted there. If he was the one who drove Dany into destroying kings landing it would have been much better
Yeah the first four seasons were excellent. Then it began to decline in quality. Season 8 was bad, but the decline began in season 5.
Still one of my favorite characters of all time no matter how the show ended.
Samsies
I loved the ending. It made sense.
@@mavfan1 I did as well.
I hate what they did to his character.
I agree brother
it seems Peter is unaware of how epic his performance was. he saved the show. Absolutely epic!
He didn't save the show... he made it!
I think he's totally aware. But he's also not going to just say that outright, of course.
He won 4 Emmys and a golden globe I’m sure he’s aware
At the beginning. After his trial, everything went downhill
He knows. He's a quality actor, there's no need to rub it in.
Without him GoT would not have been the same. Absolute favorite character
Only issues are with the writers, they should’ve gone the dark route his character in the book goes through instead of making him a shell of himself
Literally, anything you change and it would not be the same.
In fact, one of my main beefs with the last two seasons (and that's a full herd to choose from, let me tell you) is how dirty they did Tyrion. Tyrion used to be the smart one. I'm happy to see Peter Dinklage move on to greener pastures, I'm so looking forward to Cyrano.
I’m your one thousandth like
Sludgepony
It's sad to know that i almost forgot this show existed. There was a time when i thought it was the best thing ive ever seen on tv
That's what the last seasons did. They destroyed its legacy.
you could argue that it was the last big show that everyone watched together
@@dhanesh92 well until there's something new dum dum
They screwed the show up so bad it's popularity and references vanished from pop culture. So sad.
Same it used to be my favourite show of all time and now its on a list of shows I've no intention of watching again
I notice that, on American talk shows, at times the audience doesn't get Peter's bone-dry sense of humor. The British audience immediately gets his deadpan delivery, 100%. Hysterically funny and very intelligent man, and a truly gifted actor.
I also think he really resents being put solely under the spotlight like he is in 1-2-1 American talk shows. He’s a very private person and doesn’t enjoy being probed about personal things. I can imagine the more laidback format that allows him to riff on other people with his wit is much better suited to him
Americans understand dry humor. I mean Peter is American ...he developed that humor living here. Maybe what you're seeing is based on the direction giving to the audience. Behind the scenes some talk shows instruct their audience when to laugh and react. I'm not sure if that's still a common practice but it was at one point.
You know that people are told to laugh, right?
@@pedro6720 yes, but the point is that sometimes they DON'T laugh when Peter delivers an hysterical deadpan bombshell. Seen it a few times.
@@pedro6720 I don't think many do that anymore, I've been in Graham Norton's audience 3 times, and when I went to the states I went to see Colbert and Seth Meyers, and both didn't have anything like that. It could be the other American ones though.
Peter Dinklage is honestly one of the most talented actors I’ve ever seen. He’s one of my idols.
He played miles finch in elf movie
He truly is fantastic
I love him in film but I lost a lot of respect for him after Destiny.
sadly he seems quite horrid in real life
Hes a good actor but hes a moron in real life. He blamed the fans for the awful GoT ending.
He got a "Whoo!" and a round of applause for saying "Somehow, they (the audience) still liked the character".
That might not mean much elsewhere, but in the UK that is a rarity.
The bloke is an actor, not a face.
I suspect that was a bunch of American tourists 😘
I sure didn't "like" his character.
So what if he is? If he delivered a good performance, that should be applauded.
Tyrion was my favorite character, and it’s totally because Peter Dinklage brought such warmth, humor, intelligence, and humanity to the role. He deserved all the Emmy’s for his incredible performance.
Never ceases to amaze me how GN sharply drops the question then proceeds to let the guests talk, freely.. brilliant, brilliant host
How determined, focused and passionate about acting he must be to be able to succeed even though he doesn't fit the Hollywood stereotype of a hunk. Well done him. He had been building a career for a long time before GOT and now he's still getting roles
He is a hunk tho. That voice, amirite?
His face is gorgeous though, way beyond average. I don’t think being small excludes you from being a hunk, but maybe it’s unconventional 🤷♀️
Are you joking me right now? You think he's the first midget to ever act? Or have a major role?
Plus, there are PLENTY of actor that don't match up to whatever Hollywood standard you are imagining.
Excuse me? Did he actually do that - hurt and/or kill an amputee?
@@AldrickExGladius I understand that you’re defending him, but you do know that “midget” is derogatory, right? I’m not trying to be rude, but you should probably edit that out.
Peter has immortalised Tyrion with his excellent portrayal of him.
He was the smart one. Always getting the better of people or getting them to realise his point that would make them better off. Right up until he tossed that huge IQ in the trash and started doing things like taking shelter in a crypt from a guy who not only has an army of the dead but can raise them at will.
Imo he started being uncharacteristically dumb from season 5 and just kept kinda declining.
He was the smart one. In the latter seasons he just talked smart but was often outsmarted.
So you mean he was smart as long as there was a book to follow but lost his edge when D. and D. took over the writing…
@@hlewis5847 yup dumb and dumber showed pretty quickly, after the there were no books to copy from, that they don't know how to write these characters even after so many years and were to prideful to get help from actual experienced writers. When they said several years ago that they had no experience before the show got green lit by HBO, that should have been a warning to us all.
@@aspannas Those two did well getting the show green lit for sure, but they should have left the project as quickly as they could and handed it to people that could actually write.
He was probably 50% responsible for why people loved that show. Easily my favorite character on the show.
Let's be honest here, Daenerys got the most traction in social media, sold most merch, had the most season finale's and Emilia's voice was used extensively in the season trailers. People love dragons. Hence why House of the dragon is so far the only spinoff.
@@xenondoro8573And because there was so much more to explore about the history of house Targaryen. In the show we just had Daenerys for the most part while we knew all the Starks and Lannisters
Peter is one of the best actors I've seen in a series in a long time. Really great performance, great gravitas! I hope to see him in another epic series again!
I heard he will be in a Shakespeare movie. Saw a trailer for it. Looks great.
His daughter having an 'affected Irish accent' is actually a positive sign of social chameleonism. Though we tend to cringe at it, his daughter was demonstrating a capacity to adapt to her cultural surroundings. Let's acknowledge the social impact on a child of being uprooted and moved around the world for her parent's career. She's going to need coping mechanisms, and adjusting linguistically to her new surroundings is certainly not an unhealthy one.
We tend to mirror people around us, and it's not always a conscious decision. I'm from SW Missouri and I spent a week in Los Angeles with friends and when I flew home, the guy at the airport parking garage said "So how was California?" Apparently, I'd picked up a SOCAL accent without realizing it.
@@tphillips37 Yeah willingness is the wrong word.. it's quite subconscious usually. Changed it to 'capacity' :)
All kids do it
@@jumhed994 not only kids. You live somewhere where people have a different accent and most people will automatically use the same accent over time. It's completely normal if you are involved with the community there.
The maternal side of my family is Welsh. I currently live in England, but when my mum and grandad (RIP grandma) go back to Wales, their Welsh accents start to come out.
Tyrion's speech when he rallies the troops against Stannis's invading army is still epic. A great actor playing a great character.
00:38 For a split second, I thought Peter had great legs 😅
Tyrion was one of the few roles that were truly relatable and never got boring or monotonous. A flawed, but good person overall.
Nobody in GOT was good it was that some were better than others
Who isn't flawed in life to some degree? That's part of why people relate to the character, imo.
@@ella17734 just out of interest who do you relate to? because my gosh there is flawed and morally bankrupt Lol.
@@claudiabailey5302 Depends on the circumstances. Tyrion was the deformed, dwarfed son of the most powerful family in Westeros. We've seen how he is viewed and treated by his own and all things considered, he turned out the better one.
Really, The two seasons after he killed his father he was tedious.
I never watched GoT when it came out, and only recently binged watched all 8 seasons of the show in about a month. By the 2nd season, Tyrion became the character I liked the most, he was intelligent and knew the politics better than all the others, including his father. By the time I was half way through, it was obvious he was no longer the intelligent character who was always a few steps ahead of those around him...and while he remained somewhat important to the show, others (even Jamie) had overtaken him in importance. By the last season, it was sad how little he meant to the show....and don't get me started on him suggesting Bran should be king.
I don't agree with your assessment of Tyrion and his importance, in fact it was the exact opposite. He was the drunk dwarf shunned by his family and not taken seriously in the first few seasons and so he made his own path and went directly against the family who cast him as the drunk dwarf. He came into his own and became his own man apart from his family name. You got it backwards. You maybe binged it too fast because you missed a lot.
@@vaskylark Yes he was a drunk, but by the end of season 1, his father made him the hand of the king, after saying had been wrong about him. In season 2, as hand of the king, he outplays all those around him, (sends Janos Slynt to the wall), and shows just how good at politics he really is. It's in the later seasons that his decisions are average at best, far from the earlier Tyrion who was always 2 steps ahead.
@@vaskylark he was important, don’t know what ur on about.
@@WiredLain_ Maybe read what I said because of course he was important! The original poster was saying Tyrion in later seasons was NOT important as in the first seasons. I was saying it's the exact opposite. He was hugely important in the later seasons once he struck out on his own and stopped trying to get respect from Daddy Lannister.
No he wasn't important at the end. He was filler.
He was my favorite character.
hes so amazing i love him hes so honest and down to earth
'Down to earth'.
Probably because of the height
@@Knoah321 can you just not
Every scene with Peter Dinklage was the best scene.
Except when they made him a bit of an idiot in the later seasons
Peter Dinklage was my favorite part of the show
He should have been the main protagonist.
@@chasehedges6775 uh he is
Could watch GOT again n again just for Peter and Lena’s scenes together…probably the only actors to leave a lasting impact just because of the chemistry together even if their own character arcs didn’t do them much justice…major reasons why early seasons are favourite for me…
the early seasons are just better in every regard (1-4)
Almost every actor will have a lasting impact on me.
Weird to think how amazing this show was. Everyone at school/work would talk about it for years, but now it has just been forgotten. Like it doesnt even exist.
That's human nature. If something isn't continually impacting our lives, we tend for forget about it and move on. It's how the brain of most living things works. Purely biology.
For me it was the disappointing last season that killed the show.
@@jackala2783 While I don’t disagree, in this particular case it’s definitely how the final seasons ended up, particularly how rushed to get it over with it felt. Kills many people’s interests to rewatch, and much positive discussion about it.
@@zeke4994 I agree. If the show hand an epic widely received as positive ending the show would still be talked about a lot more. When a show as good as GOT completely bombs the landing people do not like thinking about it again. It also ruins rewatching the show again, because you know it all gets ruined in season 8.
@@blauespony1013 last 2 seasons for me. It was a huge warning flag realizing only 2 short seasons remained after season 6 with so much left to cover.
The Station Agent…incredible movie… where I fell in love with Peter!
It was disappointing that he didn't get an Oscar nomination
@@DK_75 I thought the same thing after I saw it, that he is going to be up for an Oscar! Peter Dinklage has always been one of my favourite actors, I'm so glad they chose him to play Tyrion, I'm not sure anyone else could have done it justice.
LOVE THIS SHOW !! BEST TALK SHOW EVER
This show's final season was such a tragedy, but I still enjoy watching the early seasons and Dinklage is a huge part of the reason why. He's so dang charismatic.
Peter dinklage poured his heart and soul out acting on the trial of joferee, the most powerful scene I'd ever seen from him, such an amazing addition to that cast, he was definitely one of the elites.
We love Tyrion because he thinks, drinks, loves, and has a beautiful moral compass all his own
He played Tyrion so long, and so well, he hasn't ever so slight British accent when he talks. Love this guy.
I still think he was the best character on the show. His performance was outstanding.
Too bad they killed his character after he left King's Landing.
I love Peter Dinklage and want to see him in much much more. Such an amazing actor!
Good evening Green, and happy new year to you 🎄, hope all is well with you and your family?
He bashed a skull in season 1 and lead his men bravely in season 2
He's a fighter to me.
The sense of humor on this guy is incredible! Thank you Peter for being with us and mastering that Tyrion role perfectly (as it was possible with plot ending like that)

Funny how we went from talking about it every Monday at work to completely forgetting it exists... amazing how writing can make or break a show.

Peter was the best actor in this series, he brought humour, serious, soulful acting, he is a natural actor. He may be short, his talent is immeasurable. It's a facade
Drinklage stole the entire show ! Superb actor!
There was a promo video for the final season. Peter Dinklage was openly irritated with the uncharacteristically foolish things his character was doing purely to move the plot along. Specifically bringing people down to the crypt, with the dead, who would come alive as the White Walkers approached. Something Tyrion would've known would happen. I can't imagine what it's like devoting years to a show that towards the end spiralled completely out of control.

oh man... as a father I can just imagine the groans and head-shakes whenever he hears his daughter's affected Irish accent... then asking why she is doing it, then asking her to stop or not to do it then just begrudgingly giving up the fight and letting them have it because it's not worth the drama... or it was not the first time she had done something like this and he just skipped to the final step.
Oh, I'm sure her Irish accent was absolutely lovely. I wish we could sprinkle a wee bit of that accent around the States, just to add a bit of charm!
I am not from a native English speaking country and I absolute LOVE the Irish accent. Irish and Scottish accents are so beautiful. To be honest, the American accents are the worst and Americans know it. Every time a character needs class or wisdom, they give it some kind of an English accent :)
@Brendan Rodgers I think there are Irish and Scottish languages which I cannot understand. But people from Ireland or Scotland who speak English have a the most beautiful sound. Like this then? :)
I certainly would not want to offend the people from the most beautiful countries there :)
Loved him ever since The Station Agent came out. Such a sweetheart. ❤️
I can honestly understand Claire Foy’s dunken thing towards Peter and that admiration for him. I’ve loved Peter ever since he was in Prince Caspian. He’s so mesmerising to watch in anything on screen or in voice overs as know he was the ape Gut in Ice Age - Continental Drift. That deep voice wow.
My favourite role has to be X-Men Days of Future Past as Boliver Trask. Can’t take eyes off him. Just a wonderful actor and shows how amazing smaller guys can be. When he talks about it seems like he understands that Tyrion was supposed to be a villain. It's kinda ironic that his charismatic performance made him a fan favorite which basically made the showrunners take it in another direction. He understands the character better than the showrunners
Come on, the guy is a true icon, a legend, hell, he's total Dinklage.
Love his character still all these years later. Fun show to watch!
Boy am I looking forward to the time when the actors are allowed to just speak their minds about the ending.
What a lovely thing to say. Of the money, the epic project, and the family of actors, the hardest thing to walk away from was the sense of community he discovered in Ireland. 🙏
Tyrion would have made a wise and compassionate king.
I first admired this man's work on The Station Agent. He's a solid performer that many aspire to and that's what makes great films........great !
I’ll never forget his trial. One of the best scenes in cinema in my opinion and i don’t say that lightly.

I absolutely adore Peter Dinklage I love how humble he is an a realist such lovely quality
Tyrion is, for me, the best character in the books. He's intelligent, articulate, brave, sensitive, compassionate ... he can be ruthless when he wants to be, but rarely chooses to be. Peter Dinklage was one of my favorite actors long before GoT. I've especially loved hearing his interviews and speeches. He has a wonderful voice and is genuinely funny and interesting.
tyrion after he kills his father and leaves kings landing is much darker and a more bitter person
Not sure if Peter Dinklage is joking, but if he can't see why so many people liked "Tyrion" maybe I under estimated his depth as an actor. If you are not joking, then I suggest you just trust your agents Peter.

He played Tyrion from the books to absolute perfection. Before the show was even a thing, it felt like his Tyrion was the only Tyrion I had ever known.
He moved on to shutting doors for other Dwarf actors getting roles as Dwarfs..
He is not a casting director. Disney did not care when fans expressed their dislike of a black Little Mermaid and a Hispanic Snow White (the ultimate oxymoron), so do you honestly believe that Disney listened to Peter Dinklage on the casting of little people? I am 4'7" and I would prefer seeing 7 actors of small stature to the group of assorted "misfits" they originally planned to use. CGI will be used now, but I have no plans to see the movie because of the comments made by the woke actress. I will however be watching "The Dwarf" when it is released.
best acting in the show.
The writer's completely butchered his character into being Daenarys' assistant but he was great until the latter seasons.
Grammar Nazi here: writers (plural) not writer's (possessive) and 'later' not 'latter'. Have a great day.
He wasn't her assistant; he was her Hand. The Hand is the chief advisor and is there to give impartial advice to the ruler, which is why they're usually quite close to each other. Depending on the ruler, they may also rule "in stead" (meant to be two words), meaning if the ruler is unable to make decisions or unavailable, they make the decisions for them. This can change depending on what other family members are alive e.g. take Margaery, Cersei, and Joffrey. If Joffrey was incapacitated, as Queen, Margaery's word would be the law; as Queen Mother, Cersei's word would be taken into significant account but not law.
