I love the stuff he posts on TikTok, but I wish he could like show us how to create music that he won't release-like random melodies that isn't part of his album. To be honest, I prefer Voicenotes and Nine Track Mind over his new album. While I really like his single 'That's Not How It Works,' I didn't enjoy his new single 'Lipsticks' as much. But he is producing great music behind the scenes these years. He's the one who wrote 'Stay' (by Justin Bieber and The Kid LAROI) and 'Harleys in Hawaii.' As for his songs in 2019, the others aren't that impressive, but I really love 'Cheating on You.' Being a huge fan of Charlie all these years I have complete faith in him❤❤❤
You literally spoke my mind. At first I like him, but after voicesnotes I got obsessed with him and waited for a long time only to be disappointed again and again until I finally let go for my own good😢

I actually like the way he put all things on TikTok, I love the way he makes music, and I think you have a little bit bias here. The way he makes music is a good thing that makes him happy. at the same time, he also make people happy, at least I enjoy the TikTok videos that he made. Also, I do think there's a reason that Charlie didn't put his new album out early. Just be patient, and he promised he will release his new Charlie later this year. As his fan here, I will wait, and he is not losing me. I still love his music, and he is the reason that I got inspired a lot and decide to learn more about music.

I agree with you on pretty much every point. 'Voicenotes' is brilliant in every way, criminally underrated. His 2019 music wasn't good, and I agree that 'Girlfriend' was a big improvement (one of my favourites and wouldn't feel out of place on 'Voicenotes').
I'm not sure if TikTok ruined Charlie's music as a whole but not gonna lie, 'Charlie' was a bit underwhelming. Especially so given all the hype generated when he first came up with 'Light Switch' (which I think is good on its own, it just means the rest of the album pales in comparison). And so short yes! Pretty much every song clocks in under 3mins, whereas 'Empty Cups' is the only song under 3mins from 'Voicenotes'.
I don't know if it is because we've heard all the songs already, like you say, that's why it's a bit disappointing and less exciting. Plus, listening to the bootlegs, I think a lot of his better songs ended up on the cutting room floor. I certainly enjoy learning how he makes songs though, all the tiny, tiny details he adds. But maybe he should show us only 5 of the 10 songs so there's still a bit of mystery and intrigue about the album.
I think 'Voicenotes' is just better overall. I get that 'Charlie' is more personal for him, and maybe it has a more streamlined narrative through the album. It's a bit more experimental. he wants to grow and not just make another 'Voicenotes'. But from a musical perspective, the songs from 'Voicenotes' manage to remain unique while all being part of the same style. It has a funk, a groove, and a dance-ability to it that 'Charlie' just doesn't have.
I just don't want 'Voicenotes' to go down in history as his only truly great album. I love 'Voicenotes' so much which is why I still think he has the potential to do EVEN better and create a really spectacular and celebrated album! His latest release, 'That's Not How This Works', is a big improvement for me so I'm not giving up hope yet!

This is an interesting point of view, and I guess it is all down to “personal taste”. However, quite frankly I rather like the way he is exploring different ways to write and also to promote his albums. On a different note (excuse the pun), I couldn’t find the connection between Billy Eilish’ song ‘bad guy’ (which in my view is not particularly special) and CP’s “I warned myself”. Completely different concept actually. Lastly, staying safe and not trying out new styles/formats/vocals, results in limited growth and evolution, so in my view CP’s musical experimentation is the right way to go. There is so much competition is the music world, only the brave survive.
WELL SAID, THANK YOU! I totally agree!! A complete body of work with his story telling in CHARLIE is remarkable!!! I think ONLY FEW MUSICIANS can make an album like this from his/her heartbreaks. We, as fans, should allow Charlie to move on from Voicenotes era (which he wanted) and try other things in order to reach his goal. I'm glad that he is happy to finally find his sound after having tried for 10 years.
Bro as much I love Charlie Puth and his music , I completely agree with this video . The VOICENOTES era was peak . All his new music including light switch and hilarious are not that great compared to his old music . VOICENOTES was the album which made me love Charlie Puth , VOICENOTES still to this day remains my favourite album of all time . The tiktok behind the scenes should be released after the song comes out so that we know how he made it and also get the exicitment of what a completely new song without any snippet sounds like . I remember when light switch came out , I listened to it and I was like there is no new stuff to listen , everything has already been leaked so the experience of his new music was ruined . Although I think that’s hilarious is a good song as it is really personal to Charlie, I want the old Charlie and his 2018 music to be back #voicenotes2

NO!! If you are a Charlie fan, you should allow him to move on, trying NEW THINGS (SOUNDS). He himself said that he doesn't want to keep making songs like "Attention" over and over. I LOVE VOICENOTES but also "CHARLIE" as well which is a complete body of work (MORE SO than Voicenotes) with a deep story line. His story telling was masterful, and it's remarkable for him to make an album like this from his heartbreaks. So, to you people who are not giving him enough credits for his new album, this is my recommendation. Stop being stuck in the Voicenotes era, move on, and give Charlie a chance to reach his goal. My goodness, STOP BEING SO CRITICAL JUST BECAUSE HIS NEW SONGS DON'T SOUND LIKE 'ATTENTION". He said that he is very happy as he finally found his SOUND after having tried for 10 years! GOOD FOR YOU, CHARLIE, KEEP GOING!!!❤💚💜💯 BTW, too bad you didn't like the way he marketed Light Switch. I LOVED IT!!. He is such a marketing genius!! Charlie is going for a hyper pop sound in this album so the auto tune he is using id used as an aesthetic more than to help him sing cause doesn’t need it.
I hope thats the case and we wont listen to robo-charlie in the next album in like 2027

Yeah you nailed it. Can you talk about the album and how you like it? I find a lot of the songs sound the same, with the same sort of circular chords and no build up of layering :(

Totally agree that's hilarious is such a wonderful song but I had heard the snippets edited and compiled that I wasn't interested when charlie released. I was done with the song becoz I was already obsessed with the snippets of that's hilarious

I am my self a great fan of Charlie Puth and his music .
But leaking a whole song is getting the surprise element out of the song.
It's just Marketing. I think Charlie r releasing snippets of his songs between your "Behind the Scenes" Toks to get the public feedback about ur production ideas, to minimize the chances of falling on flop at a traditional release because he want to be more original and build their next albums like he exactly wants to be and not like he's running out of time just like it was after "See You Again" explosion. But as we know that Charlie's idea takes a lot of time at your studio, we know the musical market doesn't forgive very large artists hiatus, so I think Charlie choose to play in "easy mode": making "simplist" songs, but made to go viral, while work at the new album (I don't think that's a problem but... we fall down at you video' idea: The Voicenotes' production richness wasn't reached yet) :/
I guess he know that he botches at doing this tik toks: 9:00 :/ but maybe it's not enough time to include unreleased songs on the album (or not? Surprise me, Charlie!) :)

I do agree with you. I've always said that it would have been very difficult to reach and hopefully get through Voicenotes' level. From my point of view, I think he has been trying so hard to release as good and catchy music as he did in Voicenotes era. But he just can't anymore: Warned Myself, Cheating On You, Mother, Hard on Yourself, Girlfriend... Those songs were experiments and flopped, so he's using tik tok to increase streams and attention around him. I love Charlie, I have been a hard stan since 2016 and It's something I don't like listening to songs whose I already know every lyrics. So sad, but we gotta admit Attention, How Long, Voicenotes level is something else.

Why are some of you so critical of Charlie? It's because his new album sounds very different from Voicenotes? Remember he said that he DID NOT WANT to keep making songs like Attention over and over, and he wanted to move on to new things. You say You love charlie. Then, why don't we as his big fans let him explore in order to achieve his goal? CHARLIE is an amazing album, a complete body of work with remarkable storytelling (more so than VOICENOTES). But you don't like it because it doesn't sound like Voicenotes. Well, it's too bad cause everysong is a MASTERPIECE to me.
@@reikomauer611 Wait, don't misunderstand me. I love CHARLIE and I have been listening to it since it came out. BUT the thing is I don't like his new way to promote his music. When Attention, How Long, Done for Me came out 5 years ago, it was amazing to listen to something NEW for 3 minutes... I was shocked and amazed. Today I know every Charlie's song before it is even out. Then, I said that Charlie obviously would like to reach Voicenotes records, but as hard as he tries he can't. You can check CHARLIE's streams and Voicenotes' ones and you'll find the difference. However, I love CHARLIE from the bottom of my heart... I wish he stopped leaking every song.

I hear that you're very disappointed with Charlie and his recent music!! OMG, just because "CHARLIE" doesn't sound anything like "Voicenotes" you say it does not work for you, and criticize everything he does. Mr. you really went too far on downgrading his new album in this video. You asked, so here are my thoughts! I have to say I strongly disagree with most of what you said.
First, Charlie repeatedly said that he doesn't want to make another song like Attention. He wanted to move on from the "Voicenotes" era and explore new things, which is totally normal if he is a good musician and wants to better himself. Contrary to what you think, I think that a complete body of work with his story telling in CHARLIE is REMARKABLE. IT IS A MASTERPIECE with deep meaning and I LOVE every song in it!!! Just think about it. . , how many musicians can make an album like this from his/her heartbreaks? Very few. . ! If you're his fan, you should let him move on in order to attain his goal. Secondly, TikTok didn't ruin him at all. He created this incredible marketing method to spread his new music and succeeded. Introducing practically every part of his new songs before the release did not ruin my appetite for listening more. It doesn't matter how many times you hear, a good song is a good song, you'll NEVER get tired of it!!
Lastly, he does NOT NEED TO RELEASE albums every so often, as some people like you want him to do. He can wait for another 3 years, 5 years or even 10 years if he wants.
